Back in the summer of 2020, I was convinced by a Steve P**** with Total Solar Solutions (now Brio Energy and maybe even Brighter Solar Energy) to get solar panels installed. This didn't happen until that October after professing concern to Mr. P**** about the decision. I was approved for a loan $35,246.00 (that has since been paid down approximately $10K through GoodLeap) and everything was installed in October 2020. Other than my monthly payment NOT being what I was originally told it would be, I was satisfied with everything. Since then, I've been carefully tracking my energy bills and I noticed around October 2023 that things weren't looking quite right. I'm now convinced that there's an issue with at least one panel. At the time of the contract, I was told that there would be a full warranty for 10 years and then a lesser warranty for 25 years. So, I began calling the numbers I have for this company and emailing those solar panel contacts I have saved in a specific folder in my email account... I can't get in touch with ANYONE. I even still have Mr. P****'s cell phone number and texted him. It shows that he's "read" the text, but has not responded. I honestly feel that I've been scammed at this point and saw online that others have felt the exact same way. I have no idea how to proceed with any of this, but I just feel sick. In addition to the contract, I also have a video with the handwritten paper (in Mr. P****'s handwriting) about everything.Initial Complaint

Solar panels were installed end of 2020 and beginning of 2021. With the heavy rain on 12/17/23, a vent in the ceiling upstairs began leaking. The roof is only 6 years old as the house. Upon calling a roofer to look at it, he informed me that it was from the installation of the solar panels. He said the solar panels should be under warranty with the installers. I cannot get in touch with Brio because they have changed their telephone number and is now under another name Brighter Solar Energy. There is no number under their website, just a form to fill out for them to contact you. They need to fix this situation before it becomes more serious. By the way, the roofer who inspected the roof says because of the way most solar panels are installed it is a common problem. Roofers are not trained to work on the solar leaks because the screws used to fasten the solar panels are under the panels.Initial Complaint

Just like many other recent complaints on here, we found out this business no longer exists when trying to contact them for warranty concerns. We thought we may have made a mistake trusting this company when they failed to install our solar panels for 5 months after we began payments, and then took an additional 2 months to connect to the grid and activate; however, we remained hopeful given their friendly customer service when we called. We attempted to contact them multiple times after install to have it evaluated (and for a leaking roof shortly after the install), yet they never called back to schedule a technician visit. Our solar panels were rated to produce 77% of our usage (~9,500 kWh/year) yet have only produced an average of one third of that each year (~3,100 kWh/year). Recent production has been averaging around 100-300 kWh per month compared to the estimated 800 kWh/month. After 3 years of continuing to have a significant electricity bill and having paid off our solar loan, we attempted to contact them again - only to find out they are no longer in business. This truly is infuriating that so many people have the same complaints and to my knowledge, nothing has been done to address this. I believe this warrants a legal investigation, especially considering the original listed owner (according to the Minnesota attorney general's office) still runs another solar company (Avolta) whose professional license was recently revoked. Our family is now out $32,000 and have defective solar panels with no one to contact for repair.Initial Complaint

This Brio Solar company put solar panels on our house… And the inverter has been changed four times already and now it’s not working again. These things have caused me nothing but problems ever since they put them on my house and now I have a loan to pay of 14,000 more dollars which I think should be disputed and I shouldn’t have to pay that and these solar panels need to be taken off my house, this is just a rip off. No one knows how to get in touch with Brio anymore. The people I called say they’re no longer in business so I think something should be done. I am just wasting my money on a loan that I don’t need. Please help me.Initial Complaint

Brio Solar Energy installed a solar panel system for me back in September of 2019. The company promised a 25 year warranty with system support and repair when needed. The company does not seem to exist anymore and my panels have not inverted energy into the grid for the past two months. Because Brio no longer exists, I am looking at paying $500 - $1000 just for another company to look at the issue and potentially fix the issue.
