I contracted with VA Paving Services on 10/06/23 to pave and sealcoat my driveway. I have a 16ft x 130ft straight driveway. A very simple job to be sure. He said he was ready to get right on it. He finally showed up on Wednesday 10/11/23 but started late in the day and finished up around dusk. Being late, he asked if I would pay him in cash since the banks were closed; that he wanted to pay his helpers ( all 2 of them). Taking pity on the workers I gave him cash for the paving and $950 for the sealcoating to protect my newly asphalted drive. ************* promised that he would return in the morning to finish the job. The next morning came, and sure enough, he had an excuse why he could not come back as promised. Then on Friday Oct13 he said his men had lost his truck keys and that he would have to have another key made. He said not to worry that he would be here on Monday Oct16. When he didnt show Monday I texted him and he informed that his supplier was out of sealant material so that he would come finish my job on Tuesday Oct17. Despite my efforts, he stopped responding to my messages until Monday Oct 23, when he informed me that he had to go out of state for a family is***. This is where the story ends. Finally, on Nov13, I texted him that I wanted my $950 back for the sealcoating job he did not do. I got another paving company to do his job at a lower price; and they did so within 24hrs of my initial phone call. The last 10ft of my driveway, where it meets the roadway, is already breaking up. My guess is that ************* skimped on or did not order enough material. Can you imagine that? ************* assured me at our initial meeting that he has been in the paving business many years. (Really?) The whole point of my complaint is not that I want him to repair my driveway entrance, or to *** this man for my $950. I really want any and everybody to know about his unprofessional business practices and . pleaseplease DO NOT DEAL WITH VA PAVING SERVICES.

Va Paving Services performed a paving job in mid-August 2023. Fast forward a few months later the driveway is starting to deteriorate with loose gravel and raised bumps. I've called and texted the contractor multiple times daily and he has only responded once within 3 weeks since I've addressed the problem. He claimed he would come out and look at the issues (9/18/23), but I haven't seen nor heard from him since then. He stated he paved the problem areas by hand during the initial paving and seems to me it did not get hot enough to settle. The driveway gets worst daily as I am constantly brushing away asphalt debris. This project cost almost 10k and the work currently doesn't back that price up.

    Hello,

The business ******** Paving services,  failed to reach out to me. This as been the pattern for the last 3 months.  After I filed the complaint, ********************* answered that he would one way or another come last week to look at issues and he didn't.  He hasn't answered my messages since that day. I wish to reopen the case till he does good on this,

I have sent ***** some things to read until I make it there that will address most of his concerns. It was from other paving companies that way he could see I wasn't being one sided.

As far as the not showing up yet, it's because he messaged me that it's been this long so another week isn't a big deal. He is demanding that I come on certain days at certain times and I can't make it at the times he's demanding. I told him I would still come by but he doesn't want me to unless he's there. Wr have very conflicting schedules and he demands only certain times and certain dates that conflict with hospital or doctor ************************ that being said, if there are problems there, I don't need him there. The problems will be there for anyone to see, especially me. So I will once again say I will be there this week as I can between hospital and doctor visits to see the problems and if in my fault I will schedule to fix them. And report mu findings back here to bbb.

After we met, I told ***** that I didn't know how long it would take me to try and come to a resolution. Altho everything with the exception of the sealer being too thick is not in my fault, I will provide the material for free and ***** can pay for the labor needed to fix his own caused issues. ***** also only paid partial for the sealing.please see pictures for my findings. And I can forward guidelines from other companies if needed. That way there is no conflict and it's non biased as to what I've already sent ***** and explained to him.

All of number 4 didncome thru on *****'s reapinse.

***** was told I didn't know when I would get back to him because of the medical family issues that were at hand. His response was that's fine As long as you came to look at the driveway.

As he stated  in a previous response- we discussed the fee items(problems) that were his own caused issues except for one issue which was the sealer being too thick in a couple areas.

His issues that he done nothing to prevent were

    1. He didn't put support on the sides or edges like he was instructed to do and was told this from the very beginning.

    2. He pushes nails into the driveway which is causing damage as he does it and also future damage.

    3. He or someone in his household sat still and turned their steering wheel on the wly paved driveway. He was instructed, before, during and after not to do this.

    4. ***** also stated he would get the material and put up along the edges of the driveway for support.

    5. In the contract with *****, it is plainly printed there is no warranty against cracking. We put this in our contracts because customers don't always do what we tell them to even though we tell them what will happen.

I don't understand how he or anyone would want me to fix an issue that they created.

I will still up hold the issue of thick sealer at no cost. I shouldn't do that because he tried to not pay for sealing at all.  Every other issue was cause by ***** or whomever was using his driveway.

These issues are less than 1% of the driveway total area and would have not been there if he would have done what he was supposed to have done with the edge support  and not been pushing nails into the driveway.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.

The business is of bad faith. The issues started from the get go. *** was supposed to take 1 to 3 days at the most if they was complications as per business.

Meanwhile couple weeks later..... With that said. He would never show up when stated from day one. Arrived by himself instead of with a crew of 4. I started to do the job by himself and just couldn't properly get the stuffed down due of being alone. I do understand that but he should had aborted and waited to get a crew to get the job done properly. Instead he had constant asphalt getting cold and heating it up with a torch. Worked late in the night and neighbors actually complained. Working in a driveway in a residential area at 11:30PM is not normal but when you start after 5PM.....  On all the days working he was able to get 1 kid with him for a bit. *** didn't really know anything but was trying to help. Same poor soul once asked me for a sandwich because his "Boss" wouldn't give him a break even being diabetic, and ***** told him, Just ask *****, He will make you a sandwich....Glad to help but again, not normal.

Driveway right off the get go had a huge soft spot that they removed after a few days and de did. ***** told me his equipment was leaking and that's what happened. The spots that I told ***** right after the job were the same thing and he agreed to come look.....Took months. Again not normal and we are not talking a little soft. We are talking me, able to move the entire asphalt with 1 finger. That's why I put the nail to show ***** how soft it was.... Was no hammer involved just softly pushed in with 1 finger. Again, not normal...

As for the sides that failed after 3 days..... He told me after that that I needed to build up the sides????  They was no discussion about me building up the entrance sides before the job. That never was made part of the discussion.

Yes couple spots were caused by tires and I told that to *****. But some of those spots were the same soft patches that again was not normal.

Saying it was the sealant being thick is a BS excuse and does not explain the entire patch moving and being soft.

I would love to bring in a partial 3rd party company to look at my driveway and the subpar job that was done. I would happily oblige by the findings of such a party.

My driveway looks like it was created by the creator of Frankenstein. Pieces and patches...I understand couple seems but this is nuts.

Further more, couple people actually pointed out that he was probably grabbing leftover materials from different jobs to show up so late at our house to work at night without lighting, again why My driveway looks like it does.

Water is still building up by the garage, because of the way it was laid. Never scrapped old stuff by the garage and couple other spots as well

As for not paying full sealant:

***** kept on asking if I wanted it. I kept on asking a price. He finally told me something like $1750 for the sealant and I told him I was not interested for that price.

He than started to seal the driveway knowing we were not happy with his job.

He stated that I could pay what ever I wanted for it. He took him minutes to do the job. At final payment I told him I was displeased with the job and didn't want to add sealant on top of an horrible job. I should had held on final payment. We finally agreed on $400 extra for that sealant to cover material. So it's not like I didn't pay or held money on it. I said from the get go that I was not interested and he started the sealant job before I even agreed to anything

Again, Would love to have someone totally neutral look at my driveway, than they can ****** to ***** and his stories, ****** to me after as well.

I also have pictures with dates of when issues arise. Some right away. some 3 days later, some still on going.

*****, DO not tell me that the driveway is done correctly and to high standards or to any standards at all. Having the audacity to say the driveway is damaged by me. I have videos to show how soft it was.   I understand it is not fully cured for a while, but I should be able to walk on it after a coouple month

On March 28th 2023 ********************* with Va paving came out to pave my driveway. He didn't finish the job and did a terrible job with what he did do. He is unwilling to redo do it and keeps asking for more money before he can fix it. When I did some calling around I found out he does not have a license. I paid ***** down and would like the back because now i have to pay ***** to have someone redo it and all the companies I call don't even want to mess with it. I can't believe this happened.

    Business Response

I HAVE a contract with ***************************** to pave her driveway. The contract states that a 55% deposit is required on contract signing. After ************* decided to come to my house and sign contract, I was paid a **** deposit with a balance of **** owed when completed. After a couple weeks I went and paved her driveway. Would have been there quicker but had a break down and it rained o. 3 different days.

There was a change in the driveway at a culvert that originally was to. E dug out but after driving over it with a ***** lb. Truck, it didn't need to be dug out, only an extra layer of asphalt put on it. I made ************ aware after I had finished the job via telephone. She asked did that make it cheaper and I responded no because we still done additional work and used additional asphalt that cost me more than the original way we were going to repair that spot. But untold jer I would give her a 5vear written warranty on that spot instead of the usual 1 year warranty. She left a check for the balance of **** which the next day upon trying to cash was no good.

She accepted as long as I put it on contract. I told her not a problem that's what i was going to do. I left my part of the 2 part contract in her mailbox as she wasn't home and via phone told her to write out anyway she wanted the 5 year warranty so that she would understand it. Upon returning the next day, she left a note and losted some issues. I set up a walk over with her and we agreed as what I would do. She agreed to what we discussed and so did i thats because that's the repairs she wanted. Her husband was with us during the walk over and agreed to, she stated that other companies had been there for are coming there to look at the job. I told her I would like to meet with those companies to hear what they had to say or at least give me the phone number to speak with them. But neither happened. And I truly believe I will call a few companies and meet with them and see what they say also. Because one of the companies told her to dig down in front of her door. But if that takes place then the water has no place to go.

She wanted done only on a Friday because she would be home. My work is scheduled 3 weeks out but I changed my schedule to repair her issues this Friday. At first I told her to make the check good for the balance. She denied. Then I asked to pay at least the balance of the 55% deposit she denied. At the point my thoughts were she was not going to pay me when I finished the repairs. So we exchanged some texts and neither one of us could agree. The very next day I sent a text and said I will be there friday if it doesn't rain and when I'm done with the repairs please have my balance. I didn't get a response until yesterday demanding to refund her or go to court. And she stated she made complaints with Bbb and some other places. I told her I would repair the driveway as we agreed and want the balance when done. She then says I just want my money back. I told her i couldn't agree to that. Especially after we agreed on repairs and I've already bought specific materials for her repair to be done Friday.. I also stated if she wanted a refund, I would dig up the driveway I laid because I will be able to grind it down and use it for base ********.

I don't know why this is so hard. We met in what she wasn't happy with, I told her I would fix the problems that she has and I want to be paid the balance when I'm completed. And that's still is my offer.

I have received nothing but poor service from ************************ the whole time while dealing with his company . On April 5th 2021 I gave ************* $2,000 cash deposit($4,200 job total) to get started on my 164x ******************. The job never got started until august 3 of 2021. After months of being mislead, lied to, and told that I couldnt receive my deposit back because it was spent on materials ***************. Performed a sub par job on my driveway. I expressed some concerns to him right away about some low spots , cracks , and areas where the asphalt seemed to not have a good bond or wasnt compacted correctly . He then gave me some spew about it will cure right and not to worry hes been doing this for *****+ years. September 20, 2021 I was already reaching back out to *************** come back out and look at my driveway he paved because of the errors in it he said he would be out there within the week to look at it and fix it if needed. Todays date is July 25,2022 and *************** is still giving me the run around about he will come out and look at it but never shows up / ignores me . Im am beyond Aggravated with this man and my patience is lost. My driveway looks worse than ever and it needs to be solved someway or another . I have text messages all the way from April or 2021 of how this man has lied to me numerous times.
