On March 18, 2024, I had to cancel an appointment scheduled for March 19, 2024. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to provide the required 24-hour notice for cancellation, and as a result, I was charged a $50 cancellation fee.The office's policy states that cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to avoid fees. However, the office was closed over the weekend preceding my appointment (March *****), leaving me with no means of contacting them to cancel within the specified timeframe. The conflict arose suddenly over the weekend, and the earliest opportunity I had to inform them of my cancellation was on Monday morning.I find it highly unethical for Colonial Internal Medicine Associates to enforce a cancellation fee under these circumstances. It was beyond my control to provide the required notice due to the office being closed over the weekend. I took the next best course of action by contacting them promptly on Monday morning.Despite explaining the situation to the office staff, they were unwilling to waive the cancellation fee. This rigid stance demonstrates a lack of consideration for patients' circumstances and a disregard for fairness.I believe that charging me a cancellation fee under these circumstances is unjust and unreasonable. I urge the Better Business Bureau to investigate this matter and ensure that Colonial Internal Medicine Associates revises its policies to accommodate situations where patients are unable to provide the required notice due to circumstances beyond their control.Thank you for your attention to this matter.
