Michael Kopcinski came out Friday to shoe horses for me for the first time. I asked about his policy for lost or sprung shoes. He said "if it is within the first week of shoeing, I will come back and fix it free of charge." Before he had finished, I left the stable having paid in full for 3 horses and he still had 1 horse left to shoe. When I returned to the stable, I found the 3rd horse with a very poor and concerning shoe job. It was obvious Michael had taken my money and quickly slapped shoes on and left. For example, 1 foot did not even have all the nails clenched; the horse had been reset using his old & worn shoes and not new shoes, his feet had not been trimmed, and he had nails that were set way in front (as well as the non-clenched nail) and he had gaps between his foot and the shoe. This immediately looked like a problem to me and I was concerned that the shoes would not stay on or worse, cause a problem to the horse. I texted Michael and asked if the shoe did not stay on/caused issue, will he help me and come back to fix it? There was no reply. Within 4 days, the front 2 nails came out of the shoe (see pic); the 3rd non-clenched nail bent and sprung, and the worn shoe slid back on the horse's foot, causing him pain, inability to be turned out, and causing a situation where I had to have another farrier come on emergency basis to fix it. Prior to hiring the other farrier on emergency, I did reach out to Michael again and asked if he could fix it -- again no reply. I asked Michael to please refund me the $170 I paid him to shoe the horse, as he did not do what he was hired for and in fact put me and the horse in a bad and unsafe situation that I then had to hire an external person to fix.
