We had a flood in our basement from a burst water pipe at the end of December. We were out of town and started calling water remediation companies to try to get someone to come out and pump the water out of our basement. Restoration Doctor agreed to do it that night. In order for them to come out, they said I had to give them a credit card which I did because my basement had over a foot of water in it. They told me they would work with my insurance company to get the charges reimbursed. They told me not to worry about it - they work with insurance all the time and always get their fees covered. They came out and removed the water. For weeks we and my insurance company tried to get them to give us an estimate or invoice for the work. They delayed and delayed. Then they issued and invoice and charges by credit card over $20,000. My insurance company, ******* insurance, estimated the work at $4,300. They tried to talk to Restoration Doctor - specifically *****, and he refused to talk with them. ***** at Restoration Doctor said their charges are their charges and they won't discuss it further. Travelers said they have several clients right now in the same position and that Restoration Doctor is notorious for preying on people in a crisis and then charging their credit card and refusing to talk to insurance and charge a fair market rate for the work done. I can put you in touch with the manager at Travelers who we have been working with. Right now we are out of pocket $15,000 because of the preditory practices of Restoration Doctor. They refuse to negotiate in the common way contractors do with insurance companies. Please help! We don't know where else to turn.

My house got flooded because of sump pump failure. It was an emergency. I contacted the Restoration Doctor, and I was told they would not come until I signed a contract with them. They did the mitigation works such as drain water, cut the wall, remove floor and carpet. The work was done, but with some issues: 1. First thing, I think the Invoice Estimation is unfair, personally. Because of the preauthorized contract, they could add items almost at their will, and priced the rate at their will without discussing it with me. The amount of the last version of the invoice is around $17,200. They insisted the amount was very common. The fact is that I hired another contractor to fix the walls, reflooring labor cost was $5,200, material cost was $4,000. Why does constructive work cost only $9200, but destructive work costs $17,200. The Restoration Doctor can get work done, but there are other candidates in this industry. In my opinion, if you do not have more than 30 thousand in budget or insurance coverage, please avoid them. 2. Please be cautious that they may overestimate the quantity and day count of rental equipment and that would cost you thousands of dollars. In my case, they showed me 40 rental devices and the day count was 6 in the first two invoice estimations. However, the correct day count should be 3 and the total number of devices is 34. When I pointed out the errors in the invoice estimation, they corrected but they always were able to add more items (like decontamination warranty charge, double the price rate of work by classifying it after hour) to keep the total cost of invoice near or above as previous one. If those added items are reasonable, why did they not add those items in the beginning (first 3 invoice estimations) but added those weird items later?? I spent a lot of time and effort negotiating with them back and forth and I got 5 versions of invoice estimation. Finally, I surrendered to them because I am really really tired. I planned to pay whatever amount of money in the last invoice they gave me even if I still feel the invoice is unfair now because I am afraid of being sued by them at my cost (I checked the previous yelp, google, and BBB review, I found they are good at prosecuting those customers make no payments). 3. The workers of the Restoration Doctor used our personal tableware to remove the toilet and the tableware is bent. Honestly, it won’t take much to replace tableware, but this behavior is insulting and disgusting. 4. One of my tenants reported his watch lost and the other tenant reported her jewel case was rummaged (luckily it was empty in the beginning). I reported to the Boss Steve of the Restoration Doctor. He replied to me with contempt and mentioned something irrelevant such as his luxuries. 5. Left trash during work. 6. My tenant reports his woolen rug (it looks very good quality) is dumped as trash like the cut carpet. The workers were bagging his own precious carpet and bagging it as trash. He, his sister, and I spent almost 2 hours Rummaging trash for his carpet!!!!!! 7. They broke the toilet's water tank by mistakenly causing it to leak water and broke the dryer air duct without notifying me. I found the issues myself, contacted them and then, thankfully, they admitted the issues and fixed the issue finally.
