Longtime Kellam customer, until today that is. Technician arrived and complained to customer of injuring himself playing basketball the day prior, and was hobbling around while trying to correct an issue with A/C Unit. Communication with customer was horrible. Quoted me one price and when I asked about the total, agreed to repairs. Once I received the total it wasn't the agreed upon price, and when I confronted the technician about it, he in not so many words called me a liar. $**** in repairs, I expect a technician to verify work, and whether A/C was working before he left . Severely overcharged for the work that was actually performed. Paid the bill just to get the technician out of my home, as it seemed like he didn't want to be here from the moment he got here. Called Kellam to complain about the work and the lady on the phone was sarcastic, rude, and unprofessional. Could have bought a brand new A/C Condenser unit for $****. The second technician that arrived was outstanding, verifying A/C unit was repaired and operational, and was very professional. If the 2nd technican hadn't come out, this would have been a 0 star review.Kellam Mechanical, Inc.

At Kellam, we strive to provide 5-star service every time, and it’s clear we did not meet that standard on this occasion. I want to assure you that we will address the lack of professionalism and communication displayed by our technician, as this does not align with our expectations or values. We’re glad that, despite the issues, the technician was able to repair your system. However, we understand that this does not excuse the poor experience you had leading up to that.
We’re also reviewing the pricing communication issues to ensure our customers are always provided with transparent and accurate quotes. Misunderstandings regarding costs are something we take very seriously, and we will work to improve our process.
I’m pleased that the second technician was able to provide you with the service you deserve and verify the A/C unit’s operation. However, I recognize this doesn’t change the fact that the initial experience was far from what you expect as a loyal customer.

< 18 months after the installation of a new heat pump for my home a part failed causing zero cooling in my home. With in about 48 hours Kellam Mechanical provided professional service to heat pump unit returning cooling back to my home. After being a home owner for over 27 years and dealing with many other HVAC Companies I would recommend Kellam as my number 1 selection. My AC unit crashed unexpectedly 10 days ago, and Kellam had Technician Blake out to my house that same afternoon! In just 3 days, Bobby and Austin had replaced the entire unit. Also had Hunter and Jacob out to clean the airducts. All, including the phone staff, were very friendly and professional. Also left the house cleaner than they found it. :+) They were all happy to play with and love on my two rather rambunctious dogs, which is a huge plus in my book! I had duct work done on my house. The initial walk through/inspection of the job at hand was done by one of their trusted techs who had been to my house previously. He was very vague at what the job would entail and indicated the job would cost me $****** which I paid $***** up front. After conversation with the lead tech the next day who was not the same person who did the walk through the day before I learned that there would be an issue. Their lead person did his own walk through and said “We can mostly do the job but can’t do the floor repair behind it.” I called Kellam and asked if they had a flooring company that could do the repairs? I was given a company name they had supposedly used numerous times. The other part of the job is I was initially considering having my bathroom duct vents to also be uniform with the rest of the house which meant cutting tile. I’m glad I didn’t go through with the bathroom part because of where the finished product would have been. I went a 1 1/2 months during the winter with my house exposed to the elements in some way waiting to hear from the flooring company. The extent of what they did was send two different people to my house to do the exact same walk through and then nothing happened afterwards. I got tired of waiting so luckily I was able to find an outside person to do what nobody else would do. Kellam only removed $*** off of their entire bill against the job for not doing anything with my bathroom floors which I don’t think they would have even done that had I not said something. That was fine but if your techs could only cut new openings in my floors and not do the repair of the previous openings then why would they still charge me the full $******? I would have never agreed to a job that could only be 3/4 done. I have now seen that they are money driven and are okay with disregarding a customer who has paid them more than I ever should have and yet they have an almost 5 star rating? How? Thank you for giving us the opportunity to replace your ductwork, we greatly appreciate your business. During a discussion with our manager and technician 6 months ago they explained to you that the proposal included ductwork replacement only, stating that we do not do flooring repairs. We regret the flooring company delayed your project exposing your home to the elements. Our walk-through inspections focused on the workmanship of the ductwork installation which resulted in proper quality assurance. The size of the new 4” floor registers hindered our ability to use the existing 2” holes due to the wall placement, leading us to relocate the floor registers. This solution allowed for better airflow in your home. You found an outside person to fix your flooring as expected. Our job was completed based on what was proposed and discussed. Solving customers comfort issues is our primary driver and we do not intend to disregard any customers, so we regret that you are unhappy. Thank you for addressing the refund. We did not feel comfortable cutting into your bathroom tile concerned about potential damage, so we refunded the $*** you were entitled to for the reimbursement of the registers we did not install. Since our managers have conversed with you about these complaints, we invite you to reach out to a BBB mediator with the goal of coming to a resolution. Technician Tony ****** came to quote us to replace 4 external electrical outlets we'd had problems with and were concerned about their safety. When we asked if he could do the work that same day, he managed this, despite finding some additional issues and needing to purchase parts. The whole time he was professional, knowledgeable, courteous and genuine. When he finished, we were confident that things had been done right this time and we were safe. Well, he handled carefully a suggestion made several times offering pictures to prove that indeed service is needed. NEGATIVE 20 stars. This company is the biggest rip off. I spent almost 2,000$ for them to assess my unit and tell me the blower needed to be replaced. The blower was replace; however, the problem was not solved so they came back and said I had to replace the whole unit (hvac & ac unit), which would be ******. So I asked what about the ****** I just spent on the old system. They said there was nothing they could do for me and they wouldn't have been able to tell that the entire system needed to be replaced had they not replaced the blower. Kellam mechanical proceeded to gaslight me, saying I didn't understand how hvacs work. Point blank - I don't need to understand how hvacs work because I understand how business works. And you don't charge someone thousands of dollars to then turn around and say that was for nothing and now we have to redo everything, and you can't get that moneyback. Not to mention they spoke to me and treated me completely different than how they treated my dad, who owns businesses in the area and uses them for his work. Our manager, Rick and your husband discussed repair cost of ****** including included motor, capacitor, diagnostic fee, leak search, surge protector and annual maintenance membership for your 9 your old system as well as the replacement system for $***** agreed up. We appreciate you receiving our offer to maintain your maintenance membership with a credit for that value of $*** due to some misinformation on diagnostic fees our 3rd party after hours agent delivered that caused some frustration. On Thursday, 2 March, 2023, one day before a home inspection that is part of the sales process for our house, our 50 gallon direct vent gas water heater began leaking. We called several companies to ask if they could help us. Kellam Mechanical said they could replace the old water heater the same day and gave us a quote for $****. When the installation tech arrived at our house, he said that he didn't realize the water heater was a direct vent system and that the new price would be $****. With just hours left in the work day, the home inspection occurring the very next day, and no ability to realistically get another company out to provide a competing quote, we accepted the price. They completed the installation without any incident. After talking to our realtor and several neighbors, it became clear that $**** is a much higher price than the industry standard for replacing a 50 gallon direct vent water heater. There was nothing complex about our system - it was in the corner of the garage, easily accessed with a venting system already established and a fully functional gas line. We asked Kellam Mechanical for a breakdown of labor and parts and they have refused to provide it, saying their "flat rate billing" system does not allow it. Our complaint is that Kellam Mechanical knew we were in dire straits and needed to get the water heater fixed that day so they took advantage of us and increased the rates to double what they should be. The final cost was over ***% more than their initial estimate. While we agreed to the price because we were desperate, this incident felt like a form of usury. Thank you for receiving our manager’s phone calls and emails over the past several days to address your concern. On 3/2/2023 we received a call from your wife at 7:51am requesting an estimate to replace the water heater and were able to shift our schedule around to accommodate the need. Our technician was dispatched and arrived at your home by 9:17 am, surveyed the situation, and was able to provide a quote within minutes of arriving. The first quote our technician provided was for an atmospheric gas water heater. The water heater in need of replacing was in fact a direct vent gas water heater, which is a more expensive product. Our technician requoted the water heater for the correct price, presented the estimate to Mrs. *****, in which she accepted and signed off on at 9:45am based on our software timestamps. The correction was made under 30 minutes of arrival. This negates your statement of “With just hours left in the work day, the home inspection occurring the very next day, and no ability to realistically get another company out to provide a competing quote, we accepted the price.” Kellam then dispatched more technicians to help with the job given the timing of the sale of your home and the home inspector arriving the next day. The 1st quote was human error, not an opportunity to take advantage of anyone. We regret you felt taken advantage of or a form of usury was inflicted, but it seems you felt pressure on your end with your timeline of your inspection and closing of your home. Our technicians have digital pricing they select from programmed software and are not able to change that or as you state “increase the rates to double what they should be.” Your claims are false and slanderous. We agree that Virginia should not tolerate usury and invite you to request a BBB rep to mediate this complaint. We will make ourselves available for a conversation to support our strong reputation of ethical practices. Kellam practices flat rate pricing to ensure each of our customers receive the consistent pricing for service and replacements. Our invoicing includes all materials, labor, code compliance and warranties. We value your feedback and wish you well with your move.
