During a hail/wind storm my roof sustained damage. After talking with my insurance agent I called 1st Choice Home Construction for an estimate on an emergency repair. They had installed my current roof 08/2021 so thought it was a good idea to call the same company. On March 13th **** looked at the roof from the ground and instead of providing a written estimate of the repair to 2 areas of the roof he showed me a picture on his phone of another clients similar invoice showing $4400.00 and said it would be a similar repair. Nothing was provided in writing. When I indicated how expensive it was he kept assuring me that since it was going through insurance I would recover all my money. I knew I at least had to cover the deductible. Not realizing the high estimate was not normal I went ahead and had him do the emergency repair. Although he said it would take a few hours, he was done within 30 minutes. When he was done, he told me there were not 2 repairs but 3 and went ahead and did the work without talking with me about it first. The amount he charged me was $6611.00 with no prior warning. This was 50% more that the verbal amount he showed I would be charged. He stood in my kitchen and finally went out to wait in his truck for payment until I could pull funds from all my sources to be able to cover the cost. I got a invoice emailed only after I paid the full amount and had to request a corrected one since the date was incorrect. There is also a due date which was never offered. This can't be right. My insurance adjustor, and a few other contractors all told me there is no way the work should have been this much. He and the other vendor I spoke with said the emergency repair should have been more like $500.00 and not more than $1000.00. I have send 1st Choice Home Construction an email requesting a partial refund due to the high cost and the fact that the invoice I received after all was done indicated work that was not completed. I've received no response.
