Purchased a Simpson semi-custom walnut wood entry way door from one of their dealers, paid $3,650 for door, not including finishing and installation. Once all completed the total cost was about $5000 for the new door. After one year the door, which is laminate to supposedly provide better integrity from contacting and expanding due to elements and environment, had already started to crack through the entire laminate to the inside core. That then allowed moister to get in and made the situation worse. Spend a year chasing the dealer to file a warranty claim with Simpson, which is a whole other issue, but after that Simpson eventually did send someone out to investigate. They looked at the door, left 2 minutes later and I heard back from the dealer that the warranty was denied because "checking" (the cracking) was expected because the door is exposed to the sun. I clarified that there is a 4-5 foot over hang, the sun is 45 degrees to the south in which a wall blocks the majority of it, and the indirect exposure it does get is contained to about an hour a day when the sun is low. This was also all explained to the dealer when purchasing the door. I've had multiple door finishers look at the door, and even the owner of the dealer admitted that something this severe should not have happened this early. They are selling an inferior door and not standing behind it. I would like the door replaced under warranty, or a complete refund of my money plus costs incurred to install and finish so that I can replace.
