I sent the attached summary of my experience with a dentist to Delta Dental, and requested an additional cleaning be covered under my plan. The dentist didn't clean all of my teeth, had the dental tools sitting out on a table without any covering or protection which is completely unsanitary, they cut my cheek, and missed a glaringly obvious cavity, as well as two other holes in my teeth, among other issues. Delta Dental is refusing my request, stating that it is billing related and that the "services were rendered". I have attached a copy of their denial letter as well. They focused on x-rays and billing which was not related to anything I mentioned. The person who processed my claim clearly didn't even bother to review my statement or photos, and when I spoke to one of their "supervisors" I was essentially told that Delta Dental didn't feel that there was any proof despite my documentation. They are refusing my request for an additional cleaning despite the inadequate, and dangerous quality of care I received. They stated that as long as he looked in my mouth, it counted as an exam, and as long as he cleaned SOME of my teeth, it counts as a cleaning to them. The Delta Dental site boasts that members will receive "quality care", this is a fraudulent statement; they have no interest in the quality of the care provided.

Dental Dental sold me a dental insurance policy. The salesperson assured me that the policy covered a percentage of cleaning and regular yearly checkups. She failed to point out there were only specific cleanings covered. My husband and I are senior citizens. We just received a **** from our cleanings billed full price with no discounts for insurance. We were Dental covers only certain cleanings. This was total misrepresentation. I talked to my dental office and this is commonplace with Delta. Obviously if they were truthful and fully disclosed their policy I would not have taken it. As it is, I am out the policy premiums and the full amount of cleaning - which the cleanings - which the cleanings would have been $350 and with the premiums I've paid I am now out $700. Double what I would have paid without it. I want to be reimbursed in full and I went Delta to be held responsible hereinafter to full disclosure to perspective clients.

I am rejecting this response because:

Delta Dental is referring to HIPAA as an excuse to not address the issue.  The issue of my complaint is false advertising.  Their salesperson alleged that they covered a couple of cleanings a year - they did not differentiate between a "regular" cleaning or a "deep" cleaning.  This is irresponsible advertising  -  I was duped.  I want a full refund of my payments - $342.00.   And I want these people to be held accountable for false advertising so that other gullible people are not taken advantage of.

This is not a HIPAA thing - it's false advertising - regardless of  any medical records.

      Sincerely,

My address is:  *************************, *********************************************; To clarify, my complaint is I was given false information from Delta regarding receiving a percentage paid for my cleanings.  I was assured that by the seller who took my money and opened my plan.  No clarification was made as to kinds of cleanings.  They took my money and gave me zero percentage on my cleanings.   I do not believe this is a HIPPA situation but I have a release if needed.   I will include the letter I received back from Delta Dental admitting that their salespeople don't always know.
Unfortunately, when you are a hired representative of a company - the company is responsible for your representations.  I want a full refund of my funds.  $350.  And I want parameters put on Delta so they cannot do this to any other unsuspecting people.

See the yellow highlighted portion they admit their sales reps do that.  AND they still take your money!

      Thank you,

      Complaint: 17132439

I am rejecting this response because:

As the respondent Dental Dental admitted in their correspondence to me - the salespeople they hire are not always versed in their plans. My response to that is they better train their salespeople to respond in accordance with their plans because they are representing the company.  This salesperson told me a percentage of cleanings was covered and took my money to initiate the - in my case worthless plan.  As an average consumer with no dental training, I was not alerted to the fact that I received anything other than a "cleaning."  There was no reference by the salesperson to any level of cleaning - which would have led me to check this out.  I feel completely taken advantage of, they took my money knowing I would receive no benefit and they did not do any kind of customer care to let me know I needed to check further into what a cleaning was.   I was also told by my dentist's office that this is a regular practice of Dental Dental and I was not the first client to have this happen.  I am urging your office to step in and see that I am the last person taken advantage of by this company.  And I would request a complete refund of my money that they have taken thus far, about $350.  Dental Dental needs to be a held to a standard and not allowed to steal from our citizens promising services they have no intention of supplying.

      Sincerely,

      Complaint: 17132439

I am rejecting this response because:  Delta Dental hired the person to represent their company in sales. They did not direct their salesperson to have me go to their care provider to find out the definition of cleanings and other dental work and then come back to discuss policies.  Instead, the salesperson said the plan covered a percentage of cleanings and fillings with no distinction and took my money.  To now try to shift the responsibility from their representative to my personal health care provider is not only poor business practice - but it is highly irresponsible.   I am 67 years old and I believe that my teeth for my age are probably better than most, but there is certainly a standard of dental care for people in my age group - and as a seller of dental services I would assert that Delta Dental knew my age and sold me a worthless plan regardless.  This is definitely a case of  taking advantage of the elderly and reprehensible.

I want a complete refund and I want their policies changed so the next unsuspecting consumer is not duped into buying a worthless plan by their paid representatives.

      Sincerely,

      *************************

I can't stand these company reps not being clear in their answers to my questions! I asked *** why did I pay $48 for my first visit? He says, without any clarity, I paid $48 for my third cleaning; it wasn't until I started pressing him for clarity that he finally says that the third visit was my third cleaning! He didn't explain how codes D4346 and D1110 are considered regular cleanings instead of deep cleanings!
