On March 4, 2024, a man came to my door, introduced himself as a representative of Stoneage Roofing & Masonry, and told me that my chimney looked like it needed repair. He gave me a postcard from his business that stated that the company was licensed and insured. Even though his $1,000 quote for the work (replacing top four layers of bricks and chimney cap) sounded like a lot, I agreed to have his company do the work, as it seemed like they were a legitimate business. On March 13th, the men returned to begin work. After spending an hour or so demolishing the top of my chimney, one of them came down to tell me that the damage was much worse than they thought. I believed him and agreed to a new estimate of $25,000, even though it seemed very high. He said they would need $18K upfront and $7K upon completion. He asked for two checks in the amount of $9K each to be made out to him personally. He cashed one of those checks later that day. That evening, my daughter looked the company up on the state *** and DOR registries, and couldnt find any evidence that Stoneage was a licensed or bonded company. Soon after the Stoneage workers showed up the next day, we asked them to stop work. We stopped payment on the second check Id given them and immediately emailed the company to tell them that we wanted the project canceled and money refunded. After not hearing back from them, we called them, and a company rep said they would need to get back to me later. I have since followed up with them twice, but they havent gotten back to me to offer a settlement.Im appalled by the fact that Stoneage appears to have lied about being a licensed and insured/bonded company, which would have left me liable if any of their workers had been injured while working on my roof. I would greatly appreciate BBBs help in getting Stoneage to refund the money that I paid it and to stop advertising itself as a licensed business.

On 2/27/24 *********************** came to my door and said I had birds and a nest in my chimney. It would cause all sorts of damage. I agreed to have the cap replaced for a price of $600.00. He and his brother ***** dismantled the cap. They then said the chimney was in danger of falling into the roof and causing structural damage. I needed to replace from the roof line for a price of *********. They promised to replace the flashing and repair a part of the roof that had a loose shingle. As a kindness they would take $1,000.00 off the $*********. I gave them a check for $6,500. Check # ****. On 2/27/24. On 2/28/24 check# **** $7,500. On 2/29/24 check #**** $5,000. They used pavers not chimney brick, cemented the cap so its impossible to clean the chimney, coated the roof, the gas meter, the pipes, chimney walls, and the surrounding grounds with cement, removed the section to vent the furnace and the fireplace. I will have to redo everything. I stopped payment on $5,000. They lied they did a terrible job. I contacted the owner. He has not agreed to a full refund. Their prices are outrageously high.
