My house recently burnt down on October 1st of this year and so I had a lot of scrap copper to take in. I had approximately 113 lb of burnt wire and then approximately 100 lb of insulated wire. I got a total of $58 for everything that I took in. They have down on the receipt that I had 113 lb in electric motors which is not true I had three small motors weighing 18 or 19 lbs. I had 2... 55 gallon containers one containing the burnt wire and one containing the insulated wire. Burnt wire at the time of taking it in was $2.58 per pound.. which should have been $291.54. ( which I had gone in the day before and she had told me to go home and cut all of the extra stuff off of the wiring which I did) The price for insulated wire was $2.37 per pound. Which should have been $237.00. I also had 12 lb of number one bright copper wiring and the price for that was $3.40. Which should have been $40.00 approx. I received $58.44 for everything. I mean really my house just burned down. I should have gotten $510.00 minus the ***** dollars that was already paid to me. I figure they have to have their cut in it as well so take 1/4 off of that. That brings it down to $382.50 This is what they owe me. I don't want to go to news media with this I just want to be paid what is owed to me.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/06/2024

On February 23,2024 at approx. 3:30pm ******************************* came in with her recyclables,  as I ****** Stubblefield stated to ********* the day before, the burnt copper wire was really bad, and that it needed to be cleaned up better then it was, she did clean it up a little better, but the issue is, there still is a possibility that it still will not be good enough considering it had other non copper wire melted into, so instead of ***** saying I cant buy the melted copper wire at all, ***** chose to buy it as electric motors, and yes there is a price reduction, ********* saw this on her receipt when she signed it, also, to address the # 1 copper, she did not have #1 copper, she had #2 Copper which is a $2.50 per pound, the same price she was paid on copper that she brought in on 01/24/24, Stubblefield *** does not have any copper product $3.40 per pound, or any where close to it, that is a false lie from her. ***** and I, ****** Stubblefield have complete transparently when it comes to weights, pricing with our customers, we strive for beyond excellent service, ***** and I greatly upset, and hurt by the false accusations that ******************************* has stated. If she had any questions at all about the pricing, or did not understand her receipt she could have simply asked, and not send the complaint to BBB, ***** would have absolutely explained again, the process and the pricing.

** I have enclosed the copy of the check that ******************************* was issued that she cash on February 27, 2024

    Sincerely,

    ***** and ****** Stubblefield

I am rejecting this response because: they were closing and were ******* me out. I had a slip from the fire **** that stated it was from a fire. I had taken the wire home the night before and spent a good part of the night cleaning the wire. It was all but stripped to bare copper when I took it back in. There is a friend of mine who can verify that. Not only that they gave me $127.00 the time before this when I had a whole lot  less copper wire and the wire was even dirtier. They just didn't want to have to pay the amount I had coming to me. So they put it down as .20 per pound. And as electric motors. There were three electric motors that's it all they were carried out by hand by one of the workers.i lost everything I own. They could have paid me properly.
Why would someone do such a horrible thing to someone who lost their whole life. If they were treated this way how would they like it is a horrific tradgity I wouldn't wish upon anyone.
There is not any reason. That is why I turned it into the BBB. I know someone who used to work there (my cousin) he was even floored when he found out what had happened. The amount of copper that I had brought in should have brought alot my re than what I was paid. So basically they are telling me that going through the rains of what used to be my life was NOT worth bringing it in to them.  All of the hours I spent was spent uselessly spent. Thank you Stubblefields for your lack of having a heart and for using my tragic loss for your gain.

    Sincerely,

    *******************************

Yes I cashed the check that was issued because I needed to. They were already closed when I noticed how much I was paid.. Had I noticed before I left I would have said something. As I said they were in a rush to get out of there. Isn't there a minimum they are supposed to pay from a fire. That is NOT .20 per lb. I cleaned it up very well. I spent the better half of the night cleaning it so I could take it back. Because ****** had requested I do so. She can say whatever she likes she is the one who has to go to sleep at night knowing how bad she screwed me over. Knowing I lost everything. I am disabled so cleaning that wire was not an easy task for me. But I did it all the same. To no avail on my part. But plenty of gain on hers.
