On 3/3/24, Foundation Chiropractic had a booth set up at a local wedding show. They were doing scans and offering a special at their location in ***********. My mom and I signed up for the special which was scans and a consultation appointment for 2 people for $50. We paid and booked for 3/14/24. We only made the appointment for the special and out of curiosity to see our scans. We had no intention to receive future care or services. At the appointment, we gave our insurance cards right away. They did scans and recommend I get x-rays.The employee left to see if X-rays would be covered and then told me that my insurance would cover it, besides a copay of $7. I paid, got X-rays, and declined all recommended care. In May, I got a voicemail saying my insurance plans were not active and invalid insurance info was given. They stated I had an outstanding bill of $368 because my insurance denied the claims and I would have to pay for it myself. I called my primary insurance and was told an employee called them on 3/14/2024 was given the answer of no coverage due to being out of network My secondary insurance is out of network too. It is evident the employee lied about coverage to get me to agree to additional services. I would not have gotten the X-rays done if I would have known there would be out of pocket costs. Foundation Chiropractic will not help with the invoice or admit any fault. I am extremely disappointed with this business and feel they took complete advantage of me. They used a special as a scam and lied to me about insurance coverage. I cannot afford to pay this bill and it seems dishonest to pay anyway. It took the employee several minutes to run my insurance so this is does not make sense.I believe others should be warned before agreeing to their special at expos in the future, and double check with their insurances themselves before accepting any other services. The scans they present are compelling and its easy to fall for the special theyre offering

    Hi ******,

We first want to offer our sincere apologies for the unfavorable experience you had within our office. It is never our intention for a patient to feel like they were taken advantage of, or provided false information, and we are sorry you felt this way.  We do want to clarify a few points you make in your message.  We do our best to ensure that patients understand that insurance benefits are not a guarantee, and final fees owed are determined once insurance has processed.  We have a paragraph within the new patient paperwork that outlines this, and also a separate insurance verification form that a patient is required to sign acknowledging that insurance benefits are not guaranteed.  You signed both forms, and we'd be happy to provide copies of those to you if you wish. Separately, you mention we are out of network with your secondary insurance, which is not true.  We are in network with your secondary insurance. If you have further questions on your services within our office, we would be more than happy to sit down with you to discuss, and again, we apologize for your unfavorable experience in our office.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

    Hello,

I understand I signed the paperwork in the office, but it was never explained to me that there would be additional fees not covered. I was told the only charge would be a copay of $7 and was pursued to go ahead with the X-rays. I would have never gotten them taken, but I followed the employees recommendations and she was certain that my insurance would cover it. I have talked to my secondary insurance multiple times and they are out of network. Each time I spoke with them I was told this and I checked myself as well. My secondary insurance will not pick it up. My mother was with me as a witness and she feels that I was scammed too. Overall, I am not happy with this entire situation and I feel that I shouldnt have an outstanding balance due to their own fault.  Again, I understand that I signed the form but I was not given valid information about future charges. The dishonesty makes this feel like one big scam. I am extremely disappointed with this business.

    Regards,

    ****** *******

Last summer I was at a carshow. Foundation Chiropractic had a tent, they said they would do a consultation if I gave them $40 cash. I paid them and went to their office several days later. The chiropractor was very unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable. They took xrays and told me I needed many many adjustments, and they did not accept insurance, only cash or charge. I explained I have a chiropractor that accepts my insurance, and only needs to do a few adjustments, not a multitude. After a high pressure sales pitch, I declined and left with my dad. They have called several times telling me I owe them $32.10, and sent several letters stating the same. They recently sent me the same bill for $32.10, now they are threatening collections. Threatening to affect my credit score, and they are reporting this to the *** as bad debt loss with form 1099-C.I paid them $40 for the consultation. They took xrays and told me I needed many many adjustments. I declined. There was never any mention of an upcharge. These people are very unprofessional and they persist in harassing me with calls, letters, and now threats. Please get these dishonest people off my back. Thank you.
