We were sadly disappointed with our recent Thanksgiving holiday dinner. We made a reservation for 4:30pm and upon arrival there was a line of guests with no greeter to ask who to check in with. There were people who didn't have a reservation being seated automatically ahead of folks who had made a reservation. There was one man (assuming he was the manager) just taking parties in a first come first served manner. If that is the case, then please don't "recommend" reservations!We joked this was like the ******** shtick- ****** it. When we were seated we were stuck in what I can only describe as the hallway between the two main dining areas. There were chairs stacked next to our table and behind that an open storage area- not at all the ambience we hoped for. Sadly there were still Halloween decorations up- we expected so much more- if management chooses not to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving, then at least take down the Halloween decorations- ugh- and the lifesize skeleton/ghoul at the entance was just not what Thanksgiving holiday diners expect to greet them. Our waiter was kind and professional but clearly overwhelmed. We hardly saw him at all. The plated dinner was an utter disappointment- my husband's turkey was full of fat, the carrots were actually cold. The mashed potatoes were good- that is really all I can compliment. We came to the English Inn for the Thanksgiving buffet pre COVID and loved it. The restaurant back then was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the buffet allowed diners to choose what they wanted to eat. There were lots of selections. We loved the chocolate fountain. We knew this time it wouldbe a plated dinner but expected so much more. We expected much better service for the price paid. Sadly I cannot recommend English Inn for Thanksgiving. We will come back to have a cocktail at the beautiful bar but will make our dinner plans elsewhere.
