HillCrest hired *************** to do the rough and final grade of our house as well as topsoil/lawn seed. ***********************, who was the lead contractor on the project told HillCrest (*****************) that Hillcrest did not bury your downspouts deep enough on the east side of the house. I had previously paid HillCrest $5,539 dollars to bury all the downspouts before landscaping began. *********************** also said they informed me that they couldn't go any deeper because the electrical lines ran right underneath them and I also pointed out that your walkout concrete pad was set way to low. After seeing these things, I did reach out to Hillcrest and explained the situation to them. They asked for my opinion, and I told them that the only way to evacuate water from that area, was going to be the installation of a drain. Whomever I talked to said they would discuss the solution with you as Hillcrest was our customer at that point, not you. ***** ended by saying I'm very sorry you're having the issues you are, it's not something we take lightly. We did reach out through the proper channels to rectify it, but never heard anything back.My complaint against HillCrest is that they improperly buried my downspouts on the east side of my home. The pipe was too long and not deep enough, which effected the final grade. HillCrest never shared the concerns of potential water drainage issues from the contractor with us. HillCrest made only one attempt to fix the drainage problem, which was installing a catch basin and running this into the drain tile. This did not solve the water drainage problem.I have called, emailed, and even texted the owner and project manager of my property about this issue as of August 14th 2023. No one from HillCrest has reached out or returned any communication. I signed off on the final escrow draw thinking the work was completed correctly. I did not know that HillCrest with held the CG Services, contractor,************************* concerns about drainage from us.

Luckily, we never got to the build. I worked almost exclusively with the owner, Oyvind, who was quite accommodating initially. I signed a contract with him in April 2022. Was told building would start in Aug, then Sep, then Nov, then Dec. Our daughter and her family moved a tiny house onto our property to live in the summer of 2021 while awaiting for our home to be built so they could buy and remodel our farmhouse. Owner Oyvind S****** was aware of this. In Jan, our daughter and her husband bought another home to live in since it was taking so long. So we cancelled the build in January of 2023. Oyvind's response to that was, "Do you want to sell your lot? I could do that for you.?" No. I asked for an accounting of our ten thousand dollar deposit. I was told he would do that. I had an attorney contact him on Oct 2nd. No response whatsoever. I called another attorney, suggested by the first, and when I told them I was dealing with Hillcrest Builders, I was told they had a conflict of interest...apparently Hillcrest is a client of theirs. I eventually met with another attorney, but before I could meet with him, Oyvind had sent me a ridiculous email with numbers he clearly made up. It was over the $10,000 slightly and he said he wasn't interested in collecting the overage. (How chivalrous.) The next morning I got an email from Nakesha L******, Controller in his office. She sent an accounting totaling almost five thousand dollars, which was clearly identified; however, the $3,000 deposit listed for the mound system that was never build should be refunded. I never got an address assignment, which was also listed as an expense. In fact, there is only one charge on there that I'm aware that he actually might have paid. After reading all the reviews, we're actually lucky we didn't go through with the build - everyone's experiences sound awful. I don't know why I didn't research him better - that's unlike me. Look elsewhere - this is not someone you want to work with.

    Hillcrest Builders Response

    11/27/2023

Hillcrest Builders attempted to make contact with the customer on 11/07/2023 by the owner and 11/08/2023 by the accounting department to address customer concerns. Customer was presented with another point of contact at Hillcrest Builders that they didn't previously have, and they were welcomed to reach out to accounting directly with any further questions. Customer acknowledged in their ******************** review that both emails were received, but failed to communicate with us directly and didn't give the opportunity to address additional concerns mentioned. After receiving BBB review, accounting has provided customer with invoices of all hard costs. In the end, the customers home was completely ready for construction, yet they elected to not proceed. The home was ***************** with multiple revisions to meet their preferences and specifications, which required sufficient time and pre-paid expenses. Customer has still chosen to not acknowledge communication from Hillcrest despite our consistent effort.
