      - 11/8/23 -$185.60 -Appointment for my 2 year old son We went into *********************** for pink eye. The doctor bullied me into having a covid test performed on my son. He pressured us 4 times. I did consent not knowing I would be charged ~$200 for this test (plus the walk in fee). A test was not necessary. We were in for a clear pink eye case. I firmly believe the intent was to charge more and up the covid tests completed at Bellin. I am disappointed in the system and looked to have the fee waived. *************************** and ************************************* denied the request after I filed a complaint through Bellin.

We will need the patient to fill out and sign the attached release of information form so that we can respond to this complaint.  This is a legal requirement related to HIPAA.  We will be happy to respond once we have received the attached form with her signature.

I did not know what else to click so I could respond with the attached disclosure form. Please see attached authorizing the release of the visit.

      To note:

Bellin will claim that I ultimately gave constant to the ***** test. That is true. However, this was after being bullied 4 different times by the doctor to perform it even though we were there for a pink eye diagnosis. If the doctor truly believed this test was needed and it is not about charging more / getting ***** tests increased, why would he not have recommended I go by the $5 test or the free government provided test and complete it at home as the results should be the same and ultimately there is nothing he could do further.

Patient's mother submitted a complaint through our process regarding feeling pressured into having a ***** test performed on her child while in Bellin Health ***********.  We did review this patient's care and determined that the care provided was appropriate for the situation and responded to her with a written letter, prior to her submitting this concern.  The patient did have symptoms of pink eye, but also had a 7-day history of cough, congestion and a runny nose.  We do recommend ***** testing in the *********** when symptoms warrant it because the *** test used in that setting is more sensitive than the home ***** tests.  At that time, there had been an increase in ***** in the community.  If the patient had been ***** positive, the recommendation would have been made for them to continue to isolate from school for an additional 3 days.  We are sorry that the patient felt pressured, but the provider was trying to make appropriate recommendations and felt the ***** test would provide important information related to this.  From our perspective we feel that appropriate care was provided, and the patient's mother did consent to the ***** test.  It is unfortunate that she felt pressured, and we have discussed this concern with the provider as we feel it is important for him to receive this feedback, however we do not feel that this situation warrants an adjustment to the bill.

I have reviewed this concern; I am unable to respond as I do not have the patient's name or information.  We would be happy to respond if we were given the information needed to investigate the concern.  I would also need a signed release from the patient giving us permission to share this information not only with the BBB but also the person submitting the complaint.

Last week I had my health risk assessment through Bellin, and my triglycerides were over 500. My triglycerides are so high, they reported that they were unable to read my LDL. My healthcare provider through Prevea ordered a direct LDL test. There was a blood work order from a few months ago to get my complete cholesterol panel. I ignored that order because I knew I was getting my health risk assessment in a few months. The lab saw the order for cholesterol panel in addition to direct LDL and did both. My Prevea results show ********************** dropped 279 points in 6 days. My other cholesterol number is dropped more than 77 points each. My HDL went up six points. In six days. With no dietary changes. I'm concerned about these numbers considering pharmaceuticals are indicated for high numbers. Also my health risk assessment has financial implications, since my employer gives incentives for good numbers. I am a solo mother and I'm all my son has, I spent the weekend anxious and crying because I thought I was going to kill over with a ridiculously high triglyceride number of 552. I would like someone to explain how these numbers could be so far off. Have my numbers been off every year? Have I been paying a higher insurance rate for over a decade because of Bellin's jacked up numbers? Because I never got retested after their numbers. It was just a flu that I did this time. This is a really big problem.

Two visits to Bellin Clinic at West ******* Clinic , Sceduled by the nurse and doctor. December 16th, 2022 with *************************** and December 19th, 2022 with *************** on the phone scheduled me saying that their doctors "could easily get my insulin pump prescription filled, no problem", upon arriving, the doctor said she cannot. I was in and out and charged over $300. She sent me do a diabetes educator, ****, who also could not do what I needed. The nurse and the doctor both should have checked to see if the appointments scheduled were able to do what I had asked, because they could not. This was a bait and switched. I was promised something and then charged $300 per appointment and left with nothing. Instead of being directed to the proper place, I was taken advantage of.

I have been seeking care for soreness and stiffness in my lower back for years. Chiropractic care was the usual care I sought. It has gotten to a point where I needed more. I scheduled an appointment with ******************* Medicine Specialists on November 23, 2022. The specialist I saw recommended trying physical therapy.Scheduled an appointment with a Physical Therapist at the Bellin Health Center in ******, ********* on December 12, 2022.Prior to my appointment I received an email, dated Fri, Dec 9, 2022 at 7:00 AM, of an "Estimate Update" for the physical therapist appointment on Dec 12. The Estimate Summary listed a "Total Fees $376.00", "Insurance Covers -$376.00" and "Your Estimated Portion $0.00". I logged into my account on the Bellin Health web page and found the same information: "You Pay $0". Details: "Total Fees $376", "Physician Fees $376", "Insurance Covers -$376" and "You Pay $0". I attended my appointment on December 12th.After my appointment, I was billed $40 as "Balance Due" (as a copay based on my health insurance plan). On February 6, 2023, I contacted Bellin **************** at ************. I explained my complaint. I was told to contact my health insurance provider. My health insurance provider is the one telling Bellin Health to bill me $40. On February 6, 2023, I contacted my health insurance provider. I was told that there is a $40 copay for specialist appointments. They do not bill (nor receive) the $40 payment. It is up to the health provider if they bill the $40. If I had been made aware of, prior to the physical therapy appointment, that there was a $40 copayment, I would have cancelled the appointment. I went, on good faith, to the appointment believing that there was no $40 fee.To avoid any extra fees, I paid $10 of the $40, on February 13, 2023.

I appreciate that you have sent something that appears to represent a release of information, however, that form does not contain a signature.  We do need a signed form from this person to be able to respond to this complaint.  We are more than happy to respond, but legally until we have a signature from the patient, we cannot do so.

I have attached our standard form in case this would make things easier for you.

      Thank-you!

We are sorry that ************ is upset regarding the estimate he received and the $40 copy that he eventually owed.  We provide good faith estimates and inform all our patients that these are just that, an estimate.  There is no guarantee related to the estimate, but we work hard to be as accurate as possible.  In this case the estimate was accurate, however, it did not include the copay.  You will note that within the estimate it states that this is not a guarantee, and it also recommends that patients contact their insurance company since they are experts on their plans.  We do feel that patients need to take some accountability to check on things with their insurance providers.  Please see the information provided to ************ in his estimate below. It does state that physical therapy provided at the ****** location is billed as Hospital Outpatient which is most likely the reason for the $40 copay. In this case, we do feel that ************ should be responsible to pay the co-pay amount.  This was not an attempt on our part to deceive him as we did provide specific information related to how Physical Therapy is billed at our ****** location.  When he contacted his insurance after the appointment in February, they were able to speak to the $40 copay.

      Thank-you,

This us the first time I have seen (or heard of) the information Bellin has now included. I (as well as many of their patients) rely on accurate and full information. It is only good business practice. I cannot believe the Bell in will not admit that someone dropped the ball and did not accurately inform me of "potential" costs that *** be involved. I still reject that I owe $40 because of the misinformation I received.
