If you have an alternative, go somewhere else. If you have an alternative, go somewhere else. You can not believe anything that is said to you. Our Great Dane fell down the stairs in the northern part of the state and he wasn't able to use his back legs. We saw an Emergency Vet in ***** *****, and they recommended traveling to Madison to meet with MVS. We called the evening that the accident occurred to seek advice on how long our dog could go without peeing. We were advised to be there first thing in the morning if he was not able to pee. He did end up peeing that night, so the peeing concern was not top of mind. We called MVS the next morning to alert them that we were bringing our dog on the 3 hour journey. They asked us to get his records from the emergency vet sent to them in advance of our arrival. We ended up talking at least 4 more times that morning, and alerted MVS to the fact that we were due to arrive by 2. We arrived by 1:30 and saw a vet by the name of Max. Max apologized to us that there was a breakdown in communication and they could not now (after driving 3 hours) see our dog. We were told the neurologists accepted a walkin appointment and would spend the rest of the day with the walkin. When I reminded Max that we had spoken with Toni 4 or 5 times that morning, and he conveyed to us that they were waiting for our arrival. Max's response was again to apologize but insisted that neither he nor anyone at the clinic could do ANYTHING for us. At that point, I asked to talk to the medical director and was told that they refused to talk with me. I was to hear from the medical director in the next couple of days. A couple of days has now passed and I have not received a call or email. The final straw was when they brought our dog out to us, they had improperly put a muzzle on him, and he was biting his tongue bad enough to be dripping blood from his mouth.

Very frustrating dealing with Madison Veterinary Specialists. They are extremely bad with communication. We give them a number to call and they call a different number. We also paid extra for a biopsy that was charged to us up front. No results were ever provided to us and we don't know if the test was even submitted, that was 2 months ago. Bad business practice. Trying to get a refund on being charged for something not provided is proving to be a hassle as well. Also, the day of our dog's surgery I waited for hours in the waiting room. They knew I was there, but when it was finished they didn't come out, they called my wife's number instead and she had to remind them that I was sitting there. Very unprofessional.

We are truly sorry **************** had a bad experience with our emergency service due to some lapses in communication, which was expressed to him over the phone when brought to our attention. What **************** did not mention in his review is that this was an emergency situation where his canine companion was seen promptly for a condition that is almost 100% fatal without emergency surgery. The appropriate care and emergency surgery were provided which saved the patients life. During the operation, a nodule was discovered on the patients liver and biopsied at no additional cost. The Kramers elected to have pathology performed on the biopsy by an outside reference lab. Due to a software update, typical internal notifications were not forwarded to the doctor and therefore, **************** was not notified with the results. It wasnt until two months later that he called to dispute the pathology charge and didnt ask about the pathology results. During our last conversation with **************** regarding the lapse in communication, we were unable to discuss the results with him as he hung up in the middle of the conversation. Its situations like these that make emergency medicine so extremely stressful for staff. The life of the patient is saved because of timely care, a liver nodule was noticed and addressed with the only error being not relaying lab results in a timely fashion. There is no gratitude for work done and saving the life of a patient, simply contempt for a communication error and a request for refund of a service that was in fact rendered.

Poor communication. Specialist promised but not there on multiple days. Prodigals changed from one staff member to another including vet and vet tech. We are not quick to react and have many many emergency vet experiences. We needed an ultrasound. Told we could get one. Then couldn't. Told again to come back and we could get one, then couldn't. Six hours in a small room with no communication that there were more critical cases yet staff were there milling around. It doesn't take much to get staff on the same page so we can make a better informed decision about how to proceed. The staff was there so short staff, holiday, weather were no excuses. We were told if we came back on December 26 we had a good chance and even better chance on Dec 27. *************** (sp) told us that. We went to ******** to try to get an ultrasound with that in mind. When we couldn't get one in ******** we headed back to Madison only to be told the info we were given wasn't correct. Meds, more food, fluids, possible hospitalization that the tech said would be necessary to 'keep' our priority. Then doctor said no, not true. WE NEEDED AN ULTRASOUND AND WOULD PAY UPFRONT IF NECESSARY. Our little dog continued to suffer due to a large mass that we couldn't get diagnosed. We needed a specialist and you are VET SPECIALISTS. NOT.

These comments are from an experience in summer of 2021. We had to use this company due to a long wait time for an appointment with our usual veterinarian business. MVS did an ultrasound on our cat. They misread their own results. Recommended a major abdominal surgery to remove a supposed string in her GI system. No such string was found. Lots of recovery time and pain for nothing. Not even an apology. Would not use these people again.
