Hi,My name is Quoizel ********, I recently had a bad experience with Paradise Memorial Funeral Services and I'd like to file an official complaint against the company and try to recoup some of the funeral costs for our loved one.We booked Paradise Memorial for a funeral service on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at 10am. During the service there were several things that went wrong, we asked a member of management for a discount on the price due to not providing certain services and negligence. There were four different things that went wrong during the service and here they are as follows:1) The projector wasn't working so there were no extra pictures displayed on the walls.2) The audio speakers were going in & out and people couldn't hear what was being said.3) We selected a song to be played during the service which was not provided.4) One of the employees there gave our Pastor the WRONG cemetery address and we had to have a family member fill in and speak at the grave site. Please understand this was a Memorial service for a close family member so we wanted this day to be special, instead we ended up making the best of what were mis-steps and negligence by the company. If there's anything else needed from me please reach out.414-484-2597Thank you for your time!-*. ********

    Business Response

    Date: 08/29/2024

I read the initial report and wanted to take a moment before responding. In our business, the number one goal is to make the worse day of someones life, slightly easier. As such, the listed complaint by *** ******** is troubling.

To be clear, *** ******** was not even the contracted party for the business transaction. The legal next of kin was his mother. To this date, we have not heard of one complaint or concern from the ACTUAL consumer.

In addition, the services for the brother of *** ******** were assisted financially by the State of *********. *** ******** is seeking $4,000 to be made whole for a service that was $2,995. It doesnt make sense.

Furthermore, I took the liberty to review the service. In my findings, not only was the livestream working, the slideshow presentation was working (by the way, it was complimentary) and all microphones were working as well. This can be verified by simply going to our website to review the service. The apparent issue *** ******** is having stems from the main chapel being completely full. As a result, some of the attendees were placed in an overflow room. While in the overflow room, the TV monitor was not functioning properly. But again, this is an overflow space to allow for additional seating. The attendees were however; able to listen to the service and everyone was given the livestream info to view the services in real time if they wanted to do so.

The complaint also indicated giving the pastor the wrong address to the cemetery. To be blunt, the pastor was obtained and contracted by the family, not us. Any information that was necessary from the family should have been given from the family. Its the responsibility of the parties involved to know the details of the contract.

In my humble opinion, I believe *** ******** is reaching for things that are not accurate. It appears to be some sort of money grab and quite frankly, it sickens me. We make it our goal to assist families to the fullest. I think its sad that someone who didnt even pay the bill, feels he should receive funds for actions he has no clue about. *** ******** was not even present during the arrangements. Hopefully this response answers your questions.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I read the reply from Paradise Memorial and would like to take this opportunity to address the things that were said.

The first issue is that my mother, ***** ******** and sister, ******** ******** reached out to Paradise Memorial before I filed the complaint with the BBB. My mother called and couldnt get in touch with anyone. My sister sent text messages with an employee there and after a quick back and forth they stopped responding. Ill attach the text thread between my sister and Paradise Memorial to this email.

The next issue is the reason I filed instead of my mother is because my mother is a senior citizen in her mid 70s and dealing with the loss of her son is stressful enough so she asked me to file on her behalf.

The next issue deals with the overflow room. The TV monitor wasnt working and there was no sound in the overflow room. Also, NONE of the attendees knew about the live stream. One of the Paradise employees could have easily made repeated announcements about the live stream but failed to do so. The attendees complained that they couldnt hear the service and also mentioned the temperature in the overflow room.

I also noticed that the owner of Paradise didnt mention anything about the song that was supposed to be played during the service. They failed to provide that also.

Another issue is our Pastor being sent to the wrong cemetery, which was absolutely shameful and embarrassing for our family. Yes, our family contracted the Pastor, which is all the more disturbing on why the Paradise employee would give incorrect information. If he wasnt sure he couldve easily told the Pastor to ask someone in the family.

Lastly, my mother is only seeking a refund of $1500 because although Paradise did provide the service, there were just far too many issues to ignore. We as a family take extreme offense to this being called a money grab. Our only focus was to give our loved one the best home going service possible and we trusted Paradise Memorial to help with that goal.

I suggest they go back to the basic of fundamentals of training their staff and making sure everything is in working order before providing a service. It seems as though theyre only concerned with asking for 5 star reviews instead of actually providing 5 star service.
