We arranged to have the local affiliate of SWAT Environmental install an active fan radon mitigation system in our home. The technician they sent installed the system which included wiring the fan to the homes electrical system in the attic. The technician completed the job and did not indicate any problems with the installation. Subsequently, we had a home inspection done and we were shocked when the inspector reported that the SWAT Environmental technician had not wired the fan connection correctly. Indeed wires were improperly spliced outside an electrical box, bare wire was exposed and the shoddy connections were partially covered with painters tape. Also, the connection made at an electrical outlet was installed incorrectly with double tap connections. All this represented a very serious threat of fire in my home, particularly since the technician saw fit to try and cover up this dangerous situation with attic cellulose insulation, further adding to the risk of fire. I contacted SWAT Environmental and was told we dont do electrical connections despite the fact that their technician did precisely that. I hired a qualified electrician to correct the problem immediately and will be looking to SWAT Environmental to answer for this totally unacceptable situation and to refund any money paid by me for the faulty and dangerous installation. We are also submitting this complaint to warn others to use caution if they choose to do business with SWAT Environmental. We were lucky a tragedy did not result from all this!

Although we didn't have an opportunity to validate or rectify the situation prior to the customer hiring an electrician to do the work, we are reimbursing the customer for the cost of the electrician. We take very seriously the quality of work by our Technicians and the safety of our customers.

SWAT Environmental came to install their radon system in my basement. The date of install was Feb 17th 2022. The technician who came did not do as he told me he would. He did not complete installation and ignored a pipe coming out of the concrete that he said he would insulate. I noticed this and called the service department and left a message. I did not receive a response for a week. When I called back a lady asked me to stay on the line, and came back to inform me that ***** forgot to respond to me. I was asked to email a picture. I sent the email with the picture on March 2nd. Today is March 10th. ******************** has not responded to me or called me to tell me when they will complete install. Issue me a refund, fix this problem.

We had a manager contact the customer and review the photo.  He explained that the cut out around the 2-inch PVC did not appear to go fully through the slab and was only chiseled around the area to complete a connection.  He advised the customer that if the area had exposed soil or gravel the technician would have sealed the area.  The customer was not home to see if to check the area while on the phone but stated he believes it is not a full penetration.  Along with surface cracks, if any were substantial and not just surface cracks those would be sealed as well but he stated they were not substantial cracks.

He ended with the customer that if he does further investigate the opening around the piping and does in fact see exposed soil or hear any form of air moving through that to call and set up a service.  He thanked our manager for explaining the process and stated he wished somebody had reached out to him earlier as the lack of response was his biggest frustration.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********. The business contacted me immediately and gave me an explanation about the issue. They should have moved faster and communicated quicker to my concerns. That being said, I will contact the business as they say in their response if I find any of the issues around the pipe.

I contact Swat Environmental (**********, **) to have a radon mitigation system install in our house in Dec. 2021. Per our work order a larger fan was selected for install due to the levels of radon in the house. After several month of continued monitoring of levels that had drop from the initial levels tested, but not down to what the *** recommends. I contacted Swat again to see if there were any other mitigation measures we could take to help reduce levels even further. The representative I talked to said we could install a bigger fan. I ask if that wasn't already something we did and it turns out the the technician that installed our system installed the smaller fan because they didn't have the larger one that our work order specified (a note was made on the work order saying that the smaller fan was installed instead of the larger one). Not only that, but we're not made aware that the smaller fan was installed and we were still charged for the larger fan. Swat has already committed to coming out and replacing the fan with the correct one at no charge, but the way it was initially handled was not only completely unprofessional, but also border line criminal by knowingly getting charged for equipment that wasn't installed.

The larger fan that was originally sold to this customer was out of stock from the vendor at the time of the original install.  An alternative large fan was installed.  It did bring the radon levels down, but not enough to meet EPA recommendations.  This change was not properly communicated to the customer or from our field team to our office team.  SWAT has made arrangements with the customer to install the fan that was originally recommended now that it is back in stock.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The response that I received is mostly satisfactory and I do appreciate SWAT replacing our current fan with the one that we originally paid for (higher price from what I can tell). My only sticking point now (an it's purely out of principle) is that I have yet to receive an apology from either the local office or its main office for the utter lack of communication and, from what I can tell, being billed for a more expensive fan that was never installed. After the new fan is installed and this message I will consider this matter closed, but you can be sure that SWAT Environmental has lost any future business from me and will not be recommend to others that are looking for a company to perform radon mitigation work.

My husband and I purchased a house in April 29th of 2020. The radon levels were higher than usual and the homeowners put in a S.W.A.T radon system before we purchased the property. I noticed in May of 2021 that the radon levels kept going up and down on my system. I reached out to S.W.A.T radon to have them service my system in May of 2021 to resolve the problem with the levels going up and down. SWAT radon had informed me that they no longer service my Rural area that they just installed the radon system in a little over a year before. They told me to unplug and plug back in my system to see if that would resolve the problem. It did not. They then suggested I find a ************* in my Rural area that could be assistance to me. S.W.A.T will not come to service or honor the system they installed a little over a year ago. Why would they install a system they do NOT honor? I guess I need to find a good honest ************* by my house. Any suggestions?

Our regional manager contacted the customer.  The complaint was that the levels of the u-tube pressure gauge was going up and down due to ground water not the actual radon levels.

We gave her the office number for region and explained to her the u-tube movement and also provided her with a free test kit to test her home's radon level and see if the radon mitigation system installed by SWAT is working to lower the radon level in the home.

After talking to manager of SWAT she informed me that they will only come to check on my Radon system if I have confirmation that Radon is leaking. They sent me a home kit addressed to the wrong costumer I'm assuming. The Manager said my levels were going up and down due to moisture in system. How do they even know that if they WILL NOT come check it. I sent out my Radon test over 2 weeks ago and have not heard anything back. Maybe they contacted the wrong customer? I was also told once again to unplug my system to see if levels go back to normal. This company is a JOKE. I wouldn't be concerned or complain if Radon didn't hurt your health. I would of never bought a house if I knew that the company that installed the Radon system doesn't service or back their product unless something terrible' like Radon leak happens.
