Diamond Home and Habitat was referred to me by the Aging and ***************** to build a wheelchair ramp for my home. He came out to our home on 12/5/22 and he provided an estimate of $1,500 to complete the ramp. He was supposed to provide a plan with full drawing along with the estimate but he did not. Set up the appointment for 12/12/22 for him to come out and build ramp. When he started construction I told him that the ramp was too steep and he said it was that way because of our yard slope, he said it would be 12 feet long, which is not long enough according to code. To be up to code there needs to be one foot of ramp per inch of ground clearance. It is 30 inches from the bottom of the door to the ground, so the ramp should be 30 feet long not 12. He kept telling me that he did not need to build it to code since it is temporary. I also requested that he not add steps to the side of the ramp and he did. He also did not add a railing to the steps, and legally there needed to be a railing because there are 4 steps. I had to hire someone else to come in and add the railing to make it legal. I attempted to use this ramp with my husband in his wheelchair and I was unable to push him up the ramp in the wheelchair with his assistance because it is far too steep and unusable. I also tried guiding my husband down the ramp in his wheelchair with his assistance by using his feet to slow the chair down and the result was us crashing into the railing at the end because the ramp is too steep. This ramp is a safety hazard and is unusable. I have called and left a message for ***** Diamond, the owner of the company, on 4 separate occasions and he will not answer or return my calls. I would like him to either fix the ramp and make it up to code or come and remove it in it's entirety and refund me my money. I feel he is taking advantage of us.
