I mailed a cashier's check for $3,000 to L&M Automotive Repair on 3/16/2022 as a deposit for purchase and installation of a refurbished engine block for our boat. We were told by ****, the owner of L&M Automotive, that he had the refurbished engine and that we were to drop off the boat April 17, 2022 and he would begin the work and it would be done within a week. The work was not done that week or any other week for four months and we were given many excuses. On May 20th **** told us that the first refurbished engine block had a knock in it when he installed it and he needed to get a replacement. On June 20th **** responded that he had received the second refurbished engine. On June 24th he claimed that he was still working on our boat. On June 30th he claimed that the new motor was installed and working okay but there seemed to be a gas or fuel line issue. On July 6th I went to the shop and **** assured me that the repair would be done by July 8th. On July 8th my husband went to the shop, looked at the engine and discovered that the motor was still in pieces. He talked to **** who stated that he would stay late to work on the boat and he would have it done by July 9th. My husband drove out to get the boat on July 9th and **** was not there and no work had been done again. We took the boat to Skipper Bud's in ******* on July 10th. A mechanic there inspected the engine and confirmed that it was the original engine block in our boat and that no work had been done to change the engine block by L&M Automotive Repair. We sent a certified letter to **** at L&M Automotive on July 12th asking for a full refund of our $3000.00 deposit by July 22nd. **** has not returned any of our calls or responded to this request. We filed in small claims court in Dane County and won the judgement but **** is not responding to court orders to pay and is currently in contempt of court.
