Design Roofing inspected my house and provided me with a quote for a new roof. I accepted their quote and signed the contract on October 17, 2022. Over the new few weeks, I had a brick mason do some work on the house which damaged the existing roof, which was unavoidable as the roof is slate. However, since I already had a contract for a new roof, I was not concerned. Shingle and other materials were delivered on November 4, 2022. The crew showed up on November 7, 2022 and decided the roof is too steep and declined to preform the work in accordance with the contract. The shingles were taken back to the warehouse. I am now stuck with a roof that will almost certainly leak and very little chance of getting a new roof from another contractor this late in the year. So I'm faced with a very high probability of water damage to my home as a result of their breach of contract. Design Roofing should be liable for damages and / or repairs to my roof. I would not have allowed the brick masons to walk on the slate roof if I had known that Design Roofing was going to renege on their promise to replace the roof and breach our contract.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We strive to give the best customer service possible to each customer. However, our #1 prrority is always the safety of our crews. After analyzing this roof, we did not feel it met the safety protocol for our crew.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Design Roofing is clearly being disingenuous in their claim that safety is the reason for their decision to breach our contract. This is demonstrated by the following: 1) Design sent a sales rep to inspect my roof. He was here for at least 30 minutes. AT NO POINT did he express ANY concern regarding the steepness, height, or any other safety factor regarding my roof. On the contrary, they were anxious to extend me an offer to perform the work. One month later (when it is too late for me to get another contractor before winter weather!!!!!), they suddenly decide the roof is too steep. I would like Design Roofing to explain to me how my roof became steeper between October 7th and November 7th. 2) I have had THREE other roofing contractors inspect my roof. NONE of them expressed ANY concerns over the steepness (or any other aspect) of the roof. Two of them were surprised that Design thought the roof was unsafe. However, the third was not surprised (see #3). 3) One roofer stated that Design's crews do not use proper safety equipment or techniques (no ropes, no safety harnesses, do not tie off, etc.). So, the problem is not that my roof is unsafe ... the problem is that Design's crews operate in an unsafe manner. If Design Roofing is so concerned with worker safety, perhaps they should ensure that their crews use proper safety equipment and techniques. Otherwise, they should stop ripping off homeowners by promising to perform work, then deciding WEEKS later that it is "unsafe" to perform their CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS. Design Roofing is unprofessional, incompetent and, by virtue of their willingness to breach a written contract, UNETHICAL.

This is a project our sales representative should have discussed with management. The roof was deemed unsafe by our management and crew. In regards to other's comments about safety that is not true. We are glad that you have secured other bids for your project and we wish you well. Thank you.
