****** ***** and I purchased a house at *** ***** ***** ** ********* *******. The kitchen needed to be updated and several people suggested Jared D**** in Evanston that made kitchen cabinets. I received Jared's Phone number from ****** at *** **** ********. and I called Jared at ************. Jared answered immediately on February 14th, 2022 and he asked me to text him the address. We met in person on Monday, February 21st and Jared showed up to take the initial measurements for the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. He was at my home for more than an hour and even called another contractor to come over and look at the kitchen soffit so it could be removed. *** who was partially retired came a few minutes later and we discussed the cabinets. I told everyone that ****** from *** **** was going to do the floors in the kitchen and bathroom. They both knew ******. Jared called me the following Friday with his bid on the cabinets and provided it verbally on Friday, February 25th. I agreed to the price of $8475 for the Kitchen Cabinets and $2,235 for the Bathroom Cabinets. Jared told me the balance of this price was due upon completion of the cabinets. He told me that he was booked up until July of 2022 and that *** hadn't submitted his bid. We spoke on the phone about getting **** Bid for the soffit work and removal of the kitchen cabinets. On Mar 3rd, Jared texted me ***** bid, which I thought was high. On March 16th I advised Jared that we wanted to go ahead with the cabinets and put down the deposit, but that we would get other bids for the soffit. Jared emailed me his bid and asked for a 50% deposit. I emailed back that I would send the deposit., which I mailed to Jared D**** on March 30, 2022. Jared cashed my check on April 7th and I have not heard from him since. He will not return any text messages or phone calls. I emailed him last week that he either provides a status on the job or sends me a refund. No response, despite accepting deposit.
