This is a contract for masonry work on a garage: footings, walls, slabs, and an exterior stair. The agreement was signed on April 19th, and work began on April 25th, 2022.The biggest complaint I have is that the project has taken almost 4 months, and we are only 75% complete. The masonry work should have been done by early to mid June, at the latest: about 4-6 weeks. They work maybe once or twice a week, if at all. Then I dont see any progress for another one to two weeks. Early in the project, I asked for a schedule of completion, so that I could plan for the rest of the project. Finally, at my insistence, they gave me one at the end of July, but then promptly fell behind. They said they would be done pouring concrete by July 25th. They still havent poured the floor, parking slab, or stairs as of August 23rd. And, they havent placed the rebar as required by the drawings yet. They have been told multiple times that they are to call and schedule the inspections of their work, and yet they repeatedly ask me if I did it for them. The inspector told us both that he does not want me to do it. I think its a delaying tactic, on their part. The second complaint is the quality of their work. They have made mistakes laying out the garage; elevation heights, walls are crooked, walls are curved, hold-down anchors were placed in wrong locations, etc. And they try to take short-cuts, and not do the work specified on the approved drawings. I constantly argue with them about what is required, and have to call out omissions (incorrect and missing rebar, etc.), and the mistakes in their measurements.
