Dropped the vehicle off January 6th, picked it up January 20th. They were to repair some damage to the front passenger corner. The agreed price was 1750, ended up being 1950. They broke the grill mounting tabs and claim it was previously broken. I supplied them with pictures of it not broken the night before it was dropped off for repair. It has 4 mounting screws, I installed it the night before it went to the body shop so I know it was not damaged. It came back missing a s**** and broken on the passenger top corner. It is a rare one model year only grill, limited production number vehicle so its very hard to find another grill. They refuse to admit they caused the damage. Included pictures of it not broken the night before it went to body shop and pictures of it broken when I picked it up. Im looking for a partial refund to replace the broken grill.Customer Answer

You can clearly see the mounting tab is broken off. I took pictures the night before it went to the body shop. They claim it was already broken. It was clearly not broken and I installed the grill the night before as well. Its very common for shops to break these grills as they have 2 hidden screws. The other side, the s**** was missing as well when vehicle was returned, was installed when the vehicle was brought to them. It is a one year only vehicle with low production numbers. Grill is very hard to find. They broke it.Business Response

*********************** had a severe accident and required us to repair his vehicle. He crushed the front rebar and the right apron and side panel which we repaired pull and aligned, straighten various pieces, welding and cold hammering the front rebar,that pushed the headlamp mount panel upwards and shattering it into many pieces.***** thought it was good idea to remove the parts because he trying to save money and etc. But he decides to remount the grille on the shattered header panel and the vehicle was driven from *************** to *************** and was dangling by the time it got to the shop most likely from vibration which is a big no no. When the vehicle got to the shop the grlle was out of the support lower and was dangling. Plus the upper mount was glued on and was over tighten on the broken header panel and that mount is fragile and cannot be glued on because glue doesnt work clockwise rotation when putting screws on. When we took the s**** off the mount broke. We arent responsible for his mistakes. If you zoom into the picture of the right broken tab you can see glue around the spokes of the mount and it isnt a smooth break. Glue works only back and forth like a tug of wars is where its strength is. You can see in the picture that we know the screws we there because the other side is intact and not the shattered side of the headlamp mount panel where that s**** goes into. We have repaired the vehicle the way ***** wanted and how he wanted and he supplied all aftermarket parts to put the vehicle back together and putting back the original grille. Also the other thing is that his pictures where the screws mount to is all black where it is showing that it is missing but that isnt the case. The screws goes there so I dont know why he is saying you see you see it is mounted and not broken but it was overtighten and shattered from vibration.I dont know how he comes to the conclusion because the picture doesnt do it justice at all. In the end the vehicle is repair safely and secured as if there was no problem the grille is completely secured. The customer is going to take care of the damaged right tow hook assembly that we had to take off because it was **************** throughout the assembly and a burnt out light bulb that he agreed to take care of the both of these items. He agreed to pay via text $1950.00 from a $2166.91 bill that we gave a 10% family friend discount because he is one of my best friends wife brother in law. So it is weird that we have come to this kind of problem that he is coming across. He has come to this point because he wont listen to reason and ignored phone calls and wont respond with in appropriate manners. We called him almost 10 times to talk to him but ignored us. Also he sent a systematics on how to take out the grille and header panel which is something that is of our trade so that was weird as well. We have been in the business and doing many different vehicles of all makes and models. He is quite aware of that and yet he sent this to us and putting us in this manner. This is one of the easier vehicles to deal with except for the front rebar and the right apron and sheet metal bracket. He obviously has some sort of pride issue and some other problems with money and etc.

I am rejecting this response because:
many things stated by the body shop are untrue. The grill was never glued. Nothing was over tightened, Im a licensed automotive technician and have removed thousands of grills. I sent them diagrams because its very common for body shops to break the grill as is posted on many many Internet forums. I also asked for the tow hook to be put in the vehicle which I have in writing, it was not. They are also refusing to give me a receipt for the work done. I did not wish to speak to them because they keep claiming it was broken and calling me a liar. I chose to go through bbb instead. This business has other reviews of them breaking parts so this is not the first time they are denying something. The damage was not major and was a simple repair for any competent body shop. I had other estimates that were lower in cost. I am asking for them to do the right thing as a business and cover the cost for the grill they damaged. The grill was not dangling when it arrived, it was mounted properly with all 4 screws, returned to me broken and missing one s**** Pictures clearly show it. There was ZERO damage to the grill. Maybe the body shop overtightened it and broke it. I certainly didnt. Sadly the body shop was over confident and didnt read my instructions. If they did I wouldnt have a broken grill.

I am rejecting this response because:it was Not my accident or mistake. The vehicle was purchased that way, maybe your business and professionalism is suffering because of your wife leaving you, The next step will be small claims court. You and your buisness damaged something and its not the first time you have. You couldnt even attach all the screws back, this shows incompetence. Im asking for you to pay for the grill or find a replacement. This problem is not going away. I would also like a receipt for the work as you are legally required to provide one. I also recieved the vehicle back with a discharged battery, the battery is new within a year, also the vehicle was filthy. What kind of body shop doesnt wash customers vehicles after the repair?

I am rejecting this response because:I was not in an accident, the vehicle was purchased with the damage. I dont appreciate the personal remarks. Its very unprofessional. This problem wont go away, the next step will be small claims court. I also received the vehicle back with a drained battery, which was brand new in April 2023, and the vehicle was not even washed. What kind of body shop does not even wash vehicles after the repairs? I am asking for compensation for the damaged grill, or a replacement grill. In small claims court I will be asking for a battery as well, and yes I have printed test results of the battery. I am also asking for a receipt for the work done as it is required by law. **************** might be struggling due to other family issues which requires him to leave often. They damaged my grill, also did not even bother to attach all the screws back after the repair. Shows lack of attention poor quality work.
