I entered into a performance contract with CK Mechanical in *******, ******* in June ********************************************************** ******* *******. The costs quoted were reasonable. I paid the deposit. CK started the work. The work was said to take one day. I was told the work is done and I was invoiced. I inspected the work and found many things that were incomplete, including the combustion gas exhaust circuit which was a serious safety concern that compromised the wellbeing of those in the home. The quoted work was to include a warranty. Since the eventual completion in October 2023 there has been four incidents where I had CK return because the equipment failed. As a result of the repeated failures and poor-quality installation I did not pay the contractor a final amount approximately $2,490. I stated the shortfalls in emails and in person at their office. The latest failure, in February 2024 was due to CK's failure to set the gas pressure on the gas valve, causing the high temp limit to turn the furnace off repeatedly after about 10 minutes. CK declined to service the equipment so I hired a different contractor. That new contractor identified additional quality issues and sent me a picture indicating a failed blocked drain pressure switch that CK had jumpered by stripping and twisting wires together without protection. It is obvious that CK has no integrity in their workmanship and no care for the customer. The installation looks terrible. This new furnace looks no better than the obsolete old thing they removed. connections are not done properly, wiring is not stapled, venting is not strapped to code, electrical NM-B cable is too tight to meet code, and the furnace appliance is mounted at the wrong incline angle which compromises the life of the appliance. *** has been alerted about the electrical nonconformances. TSSA will be notified as well.I am asking for a billing adjustment, to reduce the agreed price by 50%.

    Business response

    11/03/2024

Hello to whom it may concern,

I would like to note that we have addressed all of this customer's concerns with the installation. The only reason this customer contacted the ******************** is because they were sent to collections due to non-payment. We had been trying to reach out to them for over 2 months without a response regarding payment for an outstanding balance.

We even went above and beyond our contractual obligation and installed a drain for the customer so that the furnace is able to properly drain. This was not part of our original quote and this should have been completed by a plumber that is hired out by the customer as the drain is part of their infrastructure. Our estimate was to replace the furnace only, but we decided to go above and beyond and completed this additional work

We were never notified that they hired another contractor to complete deficiencies, this is the first time we are hearing about this. Our work was all completed as per code by our licensed gas technicians. The customer's concerns about safety are all baseless and I would like to clarify further below

The customer had checked on the installation prior to us completing our work. We had been waiting for a conversion kit to arrive that was on backorder so that venting can be properly completed. The heating operation of the furnace was disabled. The venting exhaust outlet was taped shut in the event that the heating was turned on, the pressure switches would not make, and operation of heating would fail. The signal wire for heating was removed from the control board and the internal gas valve turned to off position. All heating operations had been disabled and the unit was only temporary hooked up to satisfy the cooling needs of the tenant as a courtesy so that they are not left without cooling during the hot weather

We returned and activated all heating operations after the conversion kit arrived and completed the installation in full. Afterwards, the customer did not answer any of our emails or phone calls about payment and we had to resort to sending them to collections as a result
