Online Purchase - Olympic Tickets Scam - Facebook Marketplace

On July 30th, I engaged a seller of Olympics sporting tickets on Facebook. I asked for many modes of proof of the tickets to which they provided. However, when I asked to pay for half of the tickets and sent the money, they deleted their account. They scammed me out of $70. I never received the tickets nor a refund. I opened a claim with PayPal where the transaction took places, sharing all of my conversation correspondences, and they sided with the seller. I cannot appeal. I did NOT get a refund or the tickets. The seller deleted their account on FB. I have also submitted a complaint on that platform. I am pleading for justice and a refund of my funds. Thank you.

The scammer is spoofing a Peacock signup website for streaming the Olympics. Here is the fraudulent spoofed website https://www.peacocktvsamsung.com and this is the real website https://www.peacocktv.com/tv/samsung. When I typed the correct website address into the google search engine it automatically brought up the fraudulent website, which acts as if you are signing up and purchasing Peacock TV streaming service. After entering my credit card information, the website immediately charged my card without any agreements to process my credit card or any discussion or presentation of fees. The Women's Image Network/Women's Image Awards/ Light Productions Inc. (EIN: 95-4363001) isn't registered as either a non-profit nor as a corporation. I and two others worked for this organization and have not received payment after 6 months. We're now in small claims court, where the owner has refused to be served via the Sheriff. The founder, Phyllis Stuart, was unprofessional: yelled at staff and talent, sneered at disabled staff, demanded unrealistic 24 hour work. And although staff were verbally abused and required to work long hours (documenting them) she refuses to acknowledge staff hours and pay them.

Online Purchase - Online Purchase - Brushing - YW Co Ltd

I ordered nothing, but received something I really needed. Can't actually complain on that point. Thing is, I wanted to thank the friend who'd sent it to me. Dug out the envelope and got the company name. None of my friends had sent it. I have no idea if they have taken anything from me, ID, money, information, so can't answer that page. Passwords changed at Amazon where I've ordered similar products, but not from them. Also activated Dual factor verification on my account. Better Business Bureau has them as non-accredited and scored at an F on their site. I also read about a scam practiced in this same manner called a Brushing Scam, for more info go here: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/day6/china-s-bid-for-a-covid-free-olympics-front-line-health-care-workers-brushing-scams-and-more-1.6322424/got-an-unexpected-package-it-could-be-part-of-a-brushing-scam-1.6322433

Employment - NBC Imposter Olympic logo scam

I got an email saying that NBC was looking for people to drive 100 miles or more weekly ( basically any normal route you would take) with the decal of the "2022 Winter Olympics" on their vehicles. I know it's a scam because I did my research and this scam has been going around since at least 2017. They are specifically targeting college students (most likely because they know most of us would love to make quick money).

Fake Check/Money Order - Car Wrapping

Here's the email received verbatim (no image was actually attached): Hello applicant: Thank you for your interest to know more and participate in this program. The first organized international competition involving winter sports was introduced just five years after the birth of the modern Olympics in 1896. Known as the Nordic Games, this competition included athletes predominantly from Nordic countries (such as Norway and Sweden). It was held eight times between 1901 and 1926, with the Swedish capital of Stockholm hosting all but one time. Figure skating was included in the Olympics for the first time in the 1908 Summer Games in London. The Winter Olympic Games is a major international multi-sport event held once every four years for sports practiced on snow and ice. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, leading to the first modern Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece in 1896. The IOC is the governing body of the Olympic Movement. How does it work? Here is the basic premise of “Earn Money by Driving: We have decided to carry out a major campaign for the upcoming tournament to boost its reputation. Apart from carrying out TV commercials and Billboard, we have decided to take our marketing practice to another level by adding automobiles and trains to the campaign list to reach a broader audience thereby passing out the message to a large audience which is why we seek interested candidates to go about their normal routine with the Decal of “2022 Winter Olympics” on their Vehicles. The program will last for 6 months and the minimum a candidate can participate is 2 months. If a candidate chooses not to participate anymore, the decal will be removed. We have our specialists in each selected city to carry out the process so no damage will occur on any participants vehicles, and we will be responsible for any damages. What do we get out of this type of ad strategy? Lots of exposure and awareness. The auto decal tends to be colorful, eye-catching and attract lots of attention. According to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, it is estimated averagely a car advertisement can reach up to 60,000 impressions. In fact, vehicle advertising reaches more people than billboards, radio, direct mail, local group mailers and mass transit advertising. But here is the best part – most individuals say that advertisements on vehicles are more noticeable, more memorable and cause them to act quicker than traditional forms of advertising. You will be paid $300 weekly which is essentially a "rental “payment for letting our company use the space, no fee is required from you, we shall provide experts that would handle the advert placing on/off your car (before and after the program) which would not have damage to your car. It is very easy and simple no application fees required, find below the required information to apply for this offer: Full Name: Telephone numbers: Residential Mailing Address (Not PO BOX): City: State: Zip code: Country: Car Make/Model: Average miles driven each day: Have you held a VALID US license? Driving License Type: Note: Kindly see attached image of the decal. Warm Regards, Michael Richard Hiring Coordinator

Employment - Employment Scam - Vehicle Advertising Wraps

I was notified of a potential part-time job opportunity through a university job posting. The job posting suggested an opportunity to earn $300 a week for those who agree to drive around the city with an advertisement for the Winter 2022 Olympics plastered on their car. I grew suspicious once I was instructed to deposit a check which was greater than the agreed-upon amount of $300, which I was to use to pay for a specialist to wrap my vehicle with the advertisement. I asked for clarification on the exact dollar amount I should expect to receive in order to pay the specialist, but no response was provided. I was told to text the number provided by the 'hiring coordinator' Michael Manley to confirm my address, though when attempting to reach the number via phone call, no one answered, and no voicemail box was available.

On my college email I got a part time job offer (from: [email protected] which looks like my school's email address). This email was saying that I could make $250 a week plus $50 for gas if I put an advertisement on my car and drove my normal route. I was thinking "Hey that a lot of money for something I'm already doing. This advertisement was for the 2021 Olympics. I requested more information about what the ad looked like and how long I'd be required to keep the ad on my car. A different email (the one listed above) from the "olympics2021" replied with a detailed background of the company. They said the professionals in every major city would apply and remove the ad with no damage to the car. They describes the program to require the decals be kept for a minimum of 2 months or for a maximum of 6 months. They did not include an image of the advertisement (go figure). I wasn't until I tried googling an image of the "Olympics 2021 car advertisement" that a bunch of "car wrap scam" articles came up.

Employment

I thought I stumbled on an easy way to make some summer money, but it turned out to be too good to be true. I received an email from one of the faculty members of Roanoke College. I came to discover that their email was hacked. The offer came from a man named Mark Wilson, who said via email that he worked for the president of the Olympic committee. He claimed that he wanted me to work as part of an advertising campaign for the 2020 Summer Olympics. All I had to do was get my car wrapped at their expense and be paid $250 a week plus $50 in fuel to just to drive around town as normal. I fell for it in the beginning since it came from a legit email address from my college. The scam was that I would receive a cashier's check (which was a bogus check) to deposit in my bank account to pay for the car wrap along w/my first week's pay. Then I was to pay the car wrap guy and could keep the rest. I recognized this cash-up-front scheme as a common scam and immediately called the college and filed a police report. The police told me that scams like this are common - "The check will bounce and you will have paid out some of your money and not received any of the funds that you thought you were going to receive" I didn't fall for it, but I'm worried about the information that I did provide to the scammer, including name, address, cell phone, email, make/model of my car. To take advantage of anyone, let alone young college students is terrible...

Fake Check/Money Order - Car Wrap Scam

I received an email from a staff member at the college I attend, informing students of a job offer from the Olympics regarding "advertising while driving". Interested applicants were to email Frank Anderson at [email protected] for more information. I emailed Frank and we had a series of conversations about placing the car wrap on my car to advertise for the Olympics. He said he would pay me $250 weekly as well as $50 weekly for gas. He said he would send out a check containing my first weeks pay as well as an additional $2500 to pay the specialist when he came to place the wrap. At this point he started communicating with me via text messages. When I received the check, it was written for $2950. I asked Frank what the extra $150 was for, he told me it was for sending the funds to the specialist. I was confused at first but went along with it. Not giving the situation enough thought, I deposited the check. The next day he demanded that I purchase 5 $500 Wal-Mart gift cards and sent them to him so the specialist could buy the supplies. Again, not thinking enough about the situation, I supplied Frank with the gift cards. The money was spent on the gift cards within an hour and I had not heard from Frank so I reached out to him. He said the specialist would be in contact with me. The specialist never reached out to me. At this time I became extremely suspicious, and tried to find more information about Frank and this practice. I found this article about a similar thing happening to a girl in 2017, https://fox59.com/2017/05/26/college-student-warns-of-olympic-themed-job-scam/. At this point I also noticed that the envelope that contained the check was send from someone named Donald Simon in Dallas, Texas. Now that I realized what would happen, I tried to convince him to send me cash as compensation for the specialist not coming. I figured this would be unsuccessful but I wanted to at least try, as I knew the check would bounce and I would lose $2500. He said he would see what he could do for me but then requested that I send him another $500 gift card for the second specialist. I declined to send him anymore money and I kept demanding that he send me cash. Eventually he stopped responding. After a few days, the check did bounce and now I am out $2500 with a bank account balance in the negatives. I reached out to the President of the college I currently attend and was told that the email did not actually come from the staff members email and that I should always make sure the sender details have the proper email address for the college. However I did check the sender details and as far as I can see, the original email did come from a legitimate college email address. After explaining this to the President of my college, she has not replied. I have attached the original email for the job posting. I have many screenshots of my conversations between Frank and I that I would be happy to attach, however I am only permitted to attach one below. I want to warn others to be weary of scams like this. I am a desperate Nursing student who thought this would be a great way to make some extra money as I would already be driving a lot. I let my hopefulness blind me from seeing the truth, and this person took advantage of that. Hindsight is 20/20 and now I see the red flags that I should have noticed from the start. If it seems too good to be true, it is.
