My father required hospice services, he has terminal cancer. I was told they were doing a home visit on Friday, Sept. 9th and they would call me after the visit (like they had earlier in the week after their first visit). Around 2pm on Friday I still had not heard form them and my father was not answering his phone. I was concerned so I contacted hospice and asked for the social worker to call me asap. The nurse, not social worker, called me back to tell me her "boss" told her no one was allowed to enter the home if the dog was inside. The dog had already been discussed and we were guaranteed the dog would not be an issue when it came to hospice sevices. The dog is NOT aggressive at all, only large and we didn't want anyone to be uncomfotable with him in the house. We were promised if one nurse was not ok with the dog, a different nurse would be assigned. The nurse who called me Friday said they were no longer providing services for my father and I needed to find a different hospice company. I realized then no one had seen or spoken to my elderly father since 5pm Thursday night. This was 4pm Friday. NO ONE from Hospice of the Valley called me to tell me they were no longer taking care of my father. Not the social worker, not the coordinator, not the "boss" who made the decision no one was "allowed to go in the house". I had to call them to find out what was happening. If you decide to stop end of life services for an elderly person who lives alone, you HAVE to call someone and let them know. They had my info, I was the contact person. They all knew that. I live in CA and was not able to get to my father until very late Friday night. I called them yesterday and left a message telling them how disappointed I was in them and still, no one from Hospice of the Valley has contacted me. They went back on their word, they made no effort to do their job and they abandoned my father.
