I am disputing an unauthorized charge related to a car rental insurance purchase that was misrepresented to me at the time of rental. Below are the details: Merchant: ALLIED RENT A CAR- LOS A Transaction Date: 01/27/25 Transaction Amount: $230.93 Reason for Dispute: I was misled into purchasing an unnecessary insurance policy despite having my rental coverage through a **************** ****.Details of the Incident When I arrived to pick up my rental car, the agent asked for my credit card, even though I had already prepaid for the rental. When I inquired about the reason, they stated it was to add insurance. I explained that I already had full coverage for rental cars and provided proof of my insurance. However, they still insisted on charging me for their insurance, even though the rental agreement explicitly states that this coverage is optional.Furthermore, under California Civil Code Section 1936, any rental agreement requiring a customer to purchase insurance from the ********************** company is void and unenforceable. This law explicitly states that rental companies cannot force customers to buy their insuranceit is always an option, not a requirement.Despite my objections, the company refused to remove the charge, leaving me with no choice but to dispute it through *****************Supporting Documents I have attached the following documents to support my dispute:1. A copy of the rental agreement, highlighting that insurance is optional.2. A copy of my **************** **** benefits, confirming rental car insurance coverage.Requested Resolution I respectfully request that **************** reverse this charge as the insurance was added under misrepresentation and coercion. This company engaged in deceptive practices, and I believe this charge is invalid.Thank you for your time and assistance in resolving this matter. Please let me know if you require any additional information.Sincerely,***** ***********Initial Complaint

I rented a car from Allied Rent A Car for 3 days, from 10/04/2024 to 10/07/2024. The cost was $386.92. They also took a $500 deposit which was to be refunded within 2 days. After 4 days went by with no correspondence from them, I called them to inquire why my deposit had not been returned. The representative said that there was marijuana residue in the car. I have never smoked in my life and I also happen to be a 20 year flight attendant who is randomly drug tested by my employer. Upon reading the reviews of this Rental Company, I see that this is a pattern of theres to say and do anything to avoid giving customers back their $500 deposits. I could not get them to provide any proof of their false claims and like many others, now need to report this to you at the BBB.Initial Complaint

We would like to address the complaint regarding the deposit. ************** returned the vehicle damaged. Our claims department promptly reached out to the customer, requesting that they complete an accident report to facilitate the processing of the claim. Despite our repeated efforts to obtain this necessary documentation, the customer has not yet submitted the completed report. Consequently, we are currently unable to proceed with the claim without this crucial information.

Date: 12.04.2023 and returned it on 12.08.2023.I am actually pretty upset with Allied with their accusation and its poor inspection process. First of all I rented a ****** Altima, not a ******* Sonata so thats factually incorrect. Second of all I wasnt allowed to do any car checks or reviews of prior damage to my rental, which was done very indiscriminately by one of the agents, and he did not check the functionality of the gas cap. The car was also very banged up and had initial damage prior to my rental. The gas was half full when I received the car and I was told to fill it back to that line upon return, I went to the gas station only once before my return (30 mins prior to drop off) and as soon as I clicked the gas cap button I noticed there was an issue with the cap as it didnt open properly for me. I also did not leave the gas station or return it without it properly locked. So I didnt arrive with this gas cap looking like it did in the photo. I know for a fact that this damage had to have occurred after I dropped it off and with whatever attendant filled it with gas post drop off. Ive been made the scapegoat for a poor inspection process and post drop off damage that yall are trying to put onto the customer to foot the bill. I would like for this $150 to be returned to me along with the rest of my deposit which has yet to be reimbursed. I have emailed <*******************************> several times and have yet to receive a resolution.Business Response

Tell us why here...We are writing in response to the complaint regarding the condition of the vehicle returned by our customer. After a thorough review of our records, we can confirm that the vehicle in question was indeed brought back damaged.
At Allied Rent A Car, we take great care to document the condition of our vehicles before and after each rental. We have photographic evidence taken both at the time of pick-up and upon return of the vehicle, clearly showing that the car was not returned in the same condition it was rented out in.
These photographs serve as an essential part of our rental process to ensure transparency and protect both our customers and our company. The damage noted upon return was not present at the time of pick-up, as verified by the documented images.Initial Complaint

I reserved and paid for a car through Economy Car Rental/Allied Car Rental (******************* location) on 10/19/2023.When I went to pick up the car, I was told I must purchase their insurance in the amount of $44 per day for the two day rental, despite showing proof of my own auto insurance. I was told I could not take the car without the additional discounted payment of $79.97. It would have been very difficult to rent a car somewhere else and I would have lost the money Id already paid for the rental fee, which was non-refundable, so I grudgingly paid the additional fee. When I looked up the reviews for Allied, I read many negative reviews, echoing my exact experience, being forced to pay for unwanted, unnecessary, expensive insurance. I do believe this business is coercing customers into paying for overpriced insurance that is not wanted or needed.I left a review on Allieds website, stating that I was overcharged for insurance I did not want or need. They responded with false statements saying that their insurance is optional, and no customer is ever forced to buy it if they have their own. They also claimed the insurance was more expensive because I reserved an SUV, which is false. My reservation was for a compact, and it was ***************** to rent me a bigger vehicle.I hope this business will be investigated as so many unsuspecting visitors from other parts of the world are picked up at *** and dropped off at this place, and are routinely overcharged.Initial Complaint

I rented a car at this location. When I arrived to Allied I was charged a deposit of $250 which I was told would be refunded when I returned the care. I returned the car on 6/12/23, when I arrived at their office they had so many cars waiting to be processed that I had to park my rental on the street. I approached the agent at the return desk and was told he was the only working that day and was hours backed up to leave my keys in the care for processing. I had a flight to catch so I did as the employee told me. I tried calling the office for a status on my refund and was told I had to wait another week. On 6/28/23 I called to be informed that I only got $100 back because I was charged for an extra date for returning my care late. which was NOT the case. They processed it late because they were short staffed therefore I should have my full deposit returned. I have called several times and each time am told ****** or ***** will email me or call me back and neither has happened. I need this issue resolved and my deposit returned,Business Response

I put down $93 online to rent a car from Allied Rental Car. When I got there (terrible cust svc), I had to pay a $500 security deposit and since I used a debit card, they charged me an additional $8.50 a day, $69.34 for extra days (I returned the car on time) and $20.03 for "Days" and $23.99 a day for the rental. I ended up giving them $692.80. I returned the car full of gas and unscathed. I had to use their drop box because they weren't open. I called them on Feb 13 and was told that my deposit would be in my account Wednesday Feb 15. Called them again on Feb 17 and was told to wait on an email (?). Today is Feb 21 and I haven't received my deposit and no one answers their phone. Please, please help. I am a Disabled Veteran with only one source of income, the VA.Thank you, ***************************Business Response

After we returned the car we rented they charged our credit card $200 with zero communication. They had our number and email and no one reached out, there was no explanation, no invoice, no pictures shared, nothing. When we called them, they cited "pet hair" as the reason for the $200 charge. See attachment for what they sent us. No pet ever entered the vehicle, but we did visit someone who had a dog. The contract states that you may be charged "a reasonable fee that shall not exceed $250.00 to clean the unit if returned substantially less clean than when rented". That's a few stray hairs that stuck to our pants after sitting on a couch a dog had laid on. It's not "substantially" unclean by any stretch of the imagination, it took 30 seconds to vacuum, and $200 is not a reasonable fee. Honestly, if they had just communicated with us and explained there would be a **reasonable** fee (not $200!) added because of this, that would have been fine. But their business model seems to be grifting their customers, who conveniently aren't local and since this is a budget place, probably don't have the funds to *** them either. Shameful.Business Response
