1 starMy fiance suffered a massive fractured in his right patella and was taken to Hoag Hospital emergency room in ********* , this happened on a Friday night, they took X-rays, and they gave him pain meds. After the Emergency ** read the X-rays he mentioned the patella was broken. They gave us s***** crutches a knee brace and sent us home advising us to find an Orthopedic **. how is this possible? My fiance was in agonizing pain for 6 days immobilized in bed in the fetal position until we finally did all the arrangements to see an orthopedic surgeon. He is a 65 year old with ******** and Medical insurances and they did not accepted him for a stay in the hospital? I can see this happening in a third world country but NOT in the **, This is pathetic, where is humanity? What we went through this last 6 days has been pure h*** Enough said!!Review fromAndres R

1 starVery rude postop nurse. My husband had a cholecystectomy performed on 8/6/2024 with ************** at 8 am. ************** was great but the post-op nurse was so RUDE and unnecessary. Her boss really needs to talk to her. I have never complained but this is unacceptable.Review fromJane D

1 starIf you want good, compassionate care for yourself or your family, do NOT go to ****. I honestly do not understand how they are one of the highest rated hospitals. The doctors (********, **** and ****************, a NP) and nurses we dealt with were condescending and incompetent. The doctors gave up on my dad the very first day and offered only morphine for comfort. We had to suggest ice packs and Tylenol to help my dad with the painwhich took nagging to get after hours of waiting. AND they gave him the Tylenol via suppository. We later found out at *** that he could get it via IV. They caused him unnecessary pain and discomfort, while giving no treatment besides an IV for fluids. Everything recommended to us was for the worst possible scenario. Morphine, permanent feeding tube, hospice care. Absolutely nothing of curative nature was offered. Tests were stopped bc they said there was no point. They wouldnt do anything with the results. We were devastated. On top of that, the nurses (mostly the day ones), basically saw him as a lost cause. Did not give him medication on time or without nagging from us. One nurse in particular, *****, gave us attitude and called my dad a complete nightmare in his presence. My dad was cognitively aware and actually discouraged us from lodging a complaint. They restrained him unnecessarily and would not give him basic comforts, such as cold sore creams. Needless to say, we will never go there again. I wanted to write a review to save others from what we experienced. We transferred him to *** and they have already made a huge difference in the first 12 hours. They tried to find out what was causing him certain discomforts, ran tests, provided basic medications for simple comforts. My dad just looked more peaceful and could finally sleep well bc he was comfortable!!! Im so thankful my mom ignored the **** doctors and even us (bc they convinced us that a transfer was a horrible idea) and sent him to ***. We have hope again.Review fromSara c

1 starI took my husband to ER Friday., The doctor in ER was coughing himself, and before he got any test results he said my husband will be admitted over night and they wanted to keep him for few more days. They kept pocking him with lots of medications and they didn't explain what type of medications. They said he had covid. The blankets and bed cover looked old in the room, no privacy in the bathroom with nurses standing behind my husband while he was going to the bathroom. The food was horrible. The next day my husband requested to go home the doctor said if he goes home he may not make it, and kept pressuring him to stay few more day at the hospital. Finally the doctor agreed to discharge my husband if he took the responsibility on his own. When my husband asked for the print out the medication they didn't gave him anything. We did 3 covid test the next day and they were all negative. Please Save your life and go to another hospital.Review fromJane B

1 starOn Sunday September 10, 2023 My son in desperation to get help went to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach because they were a hospital with a detox facility. After 4 hours wait he was refused medical treatment even though he was in acute medical crisis. According to the terms of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), a hospital cannot refuse a patient medical treatment if it is an emergency, regardless of whether the patient is insured or not. Equally My son is currently transient due to his disability. For transients who are not in need of long-term treatment, hospitals are required to provide a meal and find them a shelter or safe place to go. A safe place for a transient addict in withdrawal would have been a detox facility. My son was in medical crisis, the withdrawal symptoms for fentanyl use are extreme. The **************** of ********* Medicine recommends against those with OUD abruptly discontinuing opioid use without medical supervision due to the risk of relapse, overdose, and overdose death. There was no legal or justifiable cause to deny treatment. In my sons desperation to receive help he explained that if he left, he would overdose. This was a cry for help, a fact that drug users who are not receiving treatment will be drawn back to the drug they were using to stop the pain of withdrawal. **** instead of treating his acute medical need placed him on a 72-hour hold.He was denied detox medication, cruel and inhuman and life threatening and he was informed that because he was on a 72-hour hold he needed to go to a mental facility. This is such flawed thinking I dont even know where to begin. **** is a disgrace to the medical community. When pushed into a corner to treat him your staff refused to treat his medical needs and shipped him off to a place that is so horrible, he probably will develop the mental issues they manufactured to send him there.
