In April 2024 I went to Summit college with interest in the *** program. I was told the start date for May was full and there was a waiting list for the August start date and part of the requirement was completion of a 3 day pre requisite course that will take place in August. It was explained to me that as long as I did well in the courses and finished all admissions that I would be able to start on the Aug 26th start date. Once the prerequisite courses started and application fee was taken from 43 students in the amount of $176 each, we were told there were only 27 seats in the class and all 43 students would not be admitted. While in the class I noticed the teacher knew most students by name already and some students have been through this class and seen the test from the previous session. Turns out these people were the overflow from the previous start session that didnt get in and were doing these classes for a second time and with a second admission fee I assume as well. At the end of the class I received over a 90% overall grade and was not admitted into the program however students with a lower score and this being their 2nd time in the classes were admitted instead. This school is taking an admission fee from students knowing they wont be admitted due to them already having people from the previous start date overflow paying a second round admission fee to get into the program. They are using these prerequisite requirement courses as a way to collect extra money on the false pretense of if you do good in the course, you will get in which is false. They are collecting thousands of dollars from people who from the beginning they have no intention on admitting into the program unless they come back and try a second time. When I called and spoke with the *** and the teacher of the class neither one had a valid reason as to why I was not admitted but instead someone with a lower score than me was. This is a scam and needs to be investigated

    Better Business Bureau Complaint #********
    Dear Sirs,

Thank you for the opportunity to address the concerns raised by *******************************, received by Summit College on August 28, 2022.  Upon performing a thorough review of ************ claims, the following response is submitted to assist the BBB with its investigation. In viewing this response, please note that Summit College attempts to address any student concerns or grievances in keeping with our commitment to provide our students with a caring and nurturing learning environment that promotes academic excellence and fosters open communication at all levels of our institution.

As stated by ********************, the Vocational Nursing program at Summit College requires that prospective students attend a prerequisite class designed to provide attendees foundational nursing concepts, math, basic medical terminology, nursing skills, aspects of nursing professionalism and ethics. The prerequisite class is offered at no cost to attendees interested on enrolling in the Vocational Nursing program.  Since its inception in 2018, the purpose is to offer a glimpse of the subjects that will be covered in the Vocational Nursing program, and to expose them to the rigors of the program and profession.

As the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians sets limits of enrollment, not all candidates who attend the prerequisite class matriculate into the actual nursing program.   Although a candidates grades in the prerequisite class are important, as stated in the colleges Student Catalog, there are other factors considered for admission, including but not limited to attendance, attitude and professionalism.  Candidates who are approved for enrollment into the Vocational Nursing program are then required to complete applicable documentation and pay a registration fee of $150 and those who are not, are informed by the **** of Nursing or her designee regarding their status. In the case of ********************, she was informed of the reasons she was not accepted into that particular class and there was no charge to her or any of the candidates who attended the prerequisite class and did not make it into the nursing program.

Summit College is appreciative of the opportunity to address this complaint and is hopeful that our response provides enough information for a suitable resolution. Should you have any questions or require further assistance regarding this response, please do not hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience.

    Sincerely,

    *************************
