Overcharges on his **************** contract signed on 3-12-25. He violated his own contract by charging me for subcontractor ADDITIONAL fees beyond the previously agreed rate in his contract plus some other ************* fees that violate his contract. Uncooperative, deceptive and deceitful, some poor workmanship too. Filed report with **** . Already sent all my proof of payments in full and his contract showing his violations. Despite **** instructions to contact me, he has not done so. Paid just shy of $25K. Want refund of $1750 for improper charges already. He already has the documents to prove my claim including all invoices, checks paid in full & his own violations of his own contract.Business Response

Hi ******,
We are sorry to hear about your experience with this contractor. Wed like to clarify that BuildZoom is not associated with this contractor, or any contractors. We assist property owners with finding contractors in their local area and act as an owner's *** to help them validate contractors and get through the pre-construction process, however we dont have our own network of contractors. We also partner with over 2000 building departments and contractor license boards across the ************* to manage a database of active contractors on our website.
We highly encourage you to leave a review on that contractors BuildZoom profile directly, and if youre in need of finding a high quality contractor in your area, were happy to help you! We also recommend looking to see if they have their own Trustpilot profile and leaving a review on their profile this review looks to be specific to them and their business, were unsure why it was posted to our BuildZoom profile. If you used BuildZoom, wed love to hear feedback specific to your experience with our Project Consultants!Initial Complaint

I am rejecting this response because:Thank you for getting back to me. Ill go ahead and contact ********************************** as requested. However, I will not close this case until its fully resolved. Once the issue is addressed, Ill return here and mark it as resolved.
That said, Im still not satisfied with the situation. The main concern is that Im being asked to verify an account that I never created. It appears someone from your team may have created this account without my permission, which is why Im unable to verify it.
Additionally, its not right to create accounts without a business owner's consent and then use their license to drive traffic to your platform for estimates and bids. I worked hard to earn my license, and its unacceptable for your team to use it without authorization. Other businesses have raised the same concerns, and this kind of practice needs to stop.
Sincerely,

Hi *******,
Understandable. Once we receive your support inquiry we will ensure this gets resolved.
To clarify about BuildZoom:
BuildZoom partners with over 2000 building departments and contractor license boards across the ************* to maintain a database of almost 4 million contractors. Similarly, we receive permit data from city or county building departments, which is all public data. We pull this permit data every day to ensure we have the most updated information for all of our contractors.
BuildZoom is a place where property owners can search our database to find a local contractor, and to leave reviews regarding their experience. They can also contact our Project Consultants if they want help finding a local contractor. BuildZoom offers a premium service in which our dedicated Project Managers support property owners through the pre-hire process. This includes sourcing contractors, bid management and revision, and contract administration, amongst other premium offerings. BuildZoom only wins when contractors AND property owners win, and in return for matching contractors to a project, we ask for a referral fee in return. If a contractor does not win, nothing is paid from their end to BuildZoom.Initial Complaint

Since I don't have the option of giving a clear explanation here, I attached below a description of the dispute with BuildZoom. I was discussing with one contractor my project and had signed a preliminary contract. I told the BuildZoom representativeWho had called me several times, that I had signed this contract and his answer was that they could work with my builder in getting local bids and sub-contractors for the work. To get this help I was to pay an initial fee of $1875. The contract they sent me stated that they did not ask for payment before the section of work they would be performing was completed. Despite this statement, BuildZoom wanted this initial payment right away. No mention was made of it being non-refundable, a fact that only later I found at the very bottom of the agreement. Not being well versed in contracts, fraud, pressure salemen's tactics, etc. and getting ready to spend several hundred thousand dollars worth of work on my home, I thought BuildZoom could help be a "watchdog" on the process. But now, after getting my payment, I was told that they couldn't find sub contractors for me due to the contract I had signed with "Bill" the local contractor. I was told that they could still so some things, but in asking what exactly there was no answer. I could not see what they could do, there had been nothing done so far, and I talked to them about this problem, stating that I could not see it being of any benefit, my contractor would not work with them but they had told me they could work with my contractor. So that was it, they said the $$ was non-refundable. I couldn't believe it. They kept nearly $2000 of an older lady's and refused to give even part of it back! This has been ongoing, I have called them several times since the initial contact.Business Response

Thank you for your message. We appreciate the opportunity to provide additional context regarding this matter.
We have thoroughly reviewed the situation and would like to clarify a few key points. The client willingly enrolled in BuildZooms **************** and signed the corresponding agreement, which clearly outlines the scope of services, the associated fees, and the terms of payment. The down payment referenced was collected in accordance with that agreement, and services were rendered accordingly.
While we understand and empathize with the client's concerns, the responsibility ultimately falls on the client to review and understand the terms of any agreement they choose to enter into. Our team made multiple efforts to communicate expectations, and the service agreement contains the necessary details regarding payment and refund policies.
Additionally, the client initiated a formal dispute with her bank, which was reviewed and ultimately resolved in BuildZoom's favor. The subsequent attempt to bring this matter to small claims court was also found ineligible.
We regret that the client is dissatisfied, and we strive to ensure every customer has a clear understanding of our process before moving forward. However, after a thorough internal and external review, our final determination remains unchanged the client is not eligible for a refund.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: The contract is four pages long, the last two words are "non-refundable". The contract also says they will not charge for work until it is done. But I got only a few phone calls from a very nice woman, and then was told that since my local contractor would not work with them, there wasn't much they could do to find me workers here! But the man who kept calling me to get involved and sign the contract clearly told me that they COULD work with my contractor! The contract is vague and does not spell out what they will do for you.
Of course I went to my credit card company to dispute the charge. The bank could not go further than the point of "non-refundable". I was told that since they are not lawyers, they could not look at other points of the contract or how I was treated. There were numerous points that a lawyer pointed out to me that made their contract and the way I was pressured, points to make the entire affair very unfair and illegal if we went to court. I tried next to go through small claims court, but they denied the case because Buildzoom is headquartered in *************, or Scottsdale or ??, not in ********. Even though they called me in **, wanted to find contractors in **, it seemed to me that they are doing business in CO! So I am stuck with trying to review wherever I can to warn people about Buildzoom's methods.
Sincerely,
**** ********Business Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and additional context. We truly understand that this situation has been frustrating, and we appreciate your continued communication.
After thoroughly reviewing your account and all related interactions, our decision remains final. The agreement you signed is two pages in length and clearly states that the service fee is non-refundable. While we understand that certain sections may not have met your expectations, we did our best to be transparent throughout the process and to offer support that aligned with the scope of our Premium services.
We were happy to work with your existing contractor as initially discussed. However, once it became clear that your contractor was not open to collaboration, we offered an alternative solution: to proceed without directly involving him and have you relay any relevant information. You kindly acknowledged that approach and expressed gratitude for our support, even though the circumstances had shifted unexpectedly.
Were sorry to hear that youre dissatisfied with how things unfolded, but we stand by the services provided and the terms agreed upon. We sincerely wish you the best with your home improvements and appreciate the opportunity to support you, even briefly.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: As you can see, Buildzoom will not return any of my $1875. They say they would have tried to work around my contractor, but I do not remember it that way and even if that is what they said, it would have been a nightmare! And they told me BEFORE I signed their non-refundable agreement that they "could work with my contractor". That is the point. Their pressure tactics, as anyone can see by reading a few more of BBB's reviews on Buildzoom, are real. People who work for them have reviewed also, giving a picture of their work environment. That is the great advantage of being able to see reviews. I wish I had seen Buildzoom's reviews before talking with them. At least I would have known what questions to ask.
Sincerely,

I am the owner of ***********, an architectural firm, and I am filing a complaint against BuildZoom for knowingly hosting false and defamatory reviews on my companys profile. These reviews are part of a coordinated smear campaign targeting my business, causing financial harm and reputational damage.I have repeatedly contacted BuildZooms support team to report these fraudulent reviews, providing evidence that they contain false statements intended to mislead potential clients. Despite multiple requests, BuildZoom has failed to take action, allowing the defamatory content to remain on their platform.BuildZooms refusal to investigate or remove the fraudulent reviews constitutes negligence and tortious interference with business relations, as their platform is knowingly allowing false information to harm my business. Under U.S. defamation laws, publishing or failing to remove damaging false information is actionable, especially when it negatively impacts a companys ability to conduct business.Due to BuildZooms inaction, I have suffered:Loss of business opportunities due to the false information displayed on their platform.Reputational harm, as potential clients are deterred by misleading and defamatory claims.Emotional distress from having my companys integrity attacked without recourse.I am requesting that the *** investigate BuildZoom for unfair business practices and failure to uphold platform integrity by permitting defamatory content. Furthermore, I ask that BuildZoom be held accountable for its negligence in failing to remove fraudulent reviews after being notified. Please let me know if you need additional details or evidence.
