On March 21st, ***************************************************** ************. I broke a tooth and was seeking an option for emergency services. Upon intake, the technician stated that I was required to get x-rays for the dentist to make a recommendation. I was told, as the sign states in the lobby, the x-rays are free. I notified the technician that I have a terrible gag reflex and could not do the bite wing x-rays and an alternative must be used. The technician did not know of an alternative and tried to proceed. I told her ahead of time that I would vomit if she continued, so she went to get a different technician. The next technician said we were gonna get through this one way or another, and as predicted I vomited all over myself. The technician took me back to the dentist where I was given an evaluation and recommendation for a root canal, extraction and implant. As the tooth was still mostly intact, I said that I would like a less invasive procedure and the dentist said a root canal and crown was not that much cheaper and less effective in the long run. Nevertheless, I was taken to the business manager who asked how I was and I explained all of the above information and she said that she would consult with the dentist and send me a estimate of the two options and that I did not owe anything for the day. Given the experience I had with Aspen Dental, I decided to seek a second opinion and was able to receive treatment from a different dental practice. Then weeks later I was sent a bill for $263 without any explanation except that it was a charge for x-rays and an examination. My insurance was not billed and no resolution was offered given the embarrassment I suffered with the x-rays.Business Response

The policy was effective 3/15 and cancelled the product on 3/19. I was told that the cancellation would become effective 3/31 and I would receive a refund. I am rejecting this response because: I want a direct resolution through the BBB website as I have been waiting for Delta Dental to resolve this for over a month. I was lied to and promised resolution when I called in to resolve this matter. DD has been unethical in the services they offer and the cancellation policy. I want to know when my refund will be released.

Delta Dental is stating that I have not made payment on for my insurance, and they state that I am behind on my payments and have suspended my insurance due to lack of payment. I have called them; my daughter has called them twice and gave them all the information on the cashed checks they of my insurance premiums I have paid diligently. First, they sent me a letter back early last year saying that I had overpaid by one month, I used that credit this year. After I attempted to use the credit, they sent me late notice saying I had not paid. So, I had bill pay to send the check for $53.12, on March 6, 2025, as you see they have endorsed and cashed the check. I sent the April payment April 10, 2025, they are saying they don't have that payment either. But as you can see from both the endorsed/cashed checks that they have both received both payments. My daughter tried to get them to just give her someone email address in billing to send it to or the lady she spoke to. The lady said they don't have email addresses. That is a lie, if you have a business, you have email addresses that your employees use to communicate while working in an office environment. They told her to mail it by **** and that was just another way they have of saying they don't have and have cashed my checks. I want my account brought up to date, and the credit applied where I overpaid from last year accredited to my account for May's premium. And a call from Delta Dental stating why this is happening and why they are having accounting issues with people's money. Seems they are trying to pull the old bait and switch to cancel my policy but keep my money. I am on a fixed income making less than $1200 a month, so that amount of money is like a war chest to me.Business Response

During a scheduled cleaning, my dentist said they did not want to do the cleaning because it would hurt my teeth. Despite consistent cleaning and flossing, there is damage that needs to be repaired by a deep cleaning before a standard cleaning can be done. They are telling me this is a medical necessity and they should not be performing bi-yearly cleanings until completed.I called Delta Dental to discuss and they told me that the procedure would be covered at 90%. This was not the case when the first half of the procedure was completed...I had to pay $500 out of pocket because "the antibiotic" was not covered, but this is a necessary part of the procedure. If I was told that the procedure is covered at 90% and that is a needed part of the procedure, that is ************* addition, the dentist states that this is a medical necessity for the health of my teeth and does not understand why a dental insurance company wouldn't cover the antibiotics here...my care cannot continue without it and I cannot do my scheduled cleanings that that was guaranteed to me by the insurance company. The dentist states that they would lose their license if they did a cleaning without performing this procedure first. Between the misleading phone call and Delta Dental's anti-patient policy, I need the BBB's assistance in getting the necessary antibiotics covered here.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:I attempted to take care of this through Delta before the second appointment and it was not fixed. At this point Ive already spent over $1000 out of pocket that shouldnt have had to be paid.
I already waited well over 30 days for Delta to approve and rectify. I notified that *** I was contacting the BBB because this wasnt being properly handled. I will not close the BBB complaint until this is properly resolved with coverage for the service.

I signed up for a plan covering deep cleaning, no waiting period. My dentist got an approval reference no, before doing the work. I had it done. Afterwards DD claimed I switched to a cheaper plan which didn't cover the work - already approved. That's not true and makes no sense: why would anyone do that, knowing by doing it work already done, won't be covered and the cost would be more than the new plan? ... wouldn't. In fact, DD has brokers/middlemen, and doesn't make this clear. I later learned I had signed up on their website with a broker, making troubleshooting really complicated because they have no access to the broker's database. After much more than 50 hours -- being on hold, calls, emails, eventually preparing to sue, they cleared me of any charges. Now, almost a year later, my dental office tells me DD are refusing to pay them, the dental office for the 2nd half of the cleaning - which they had had preapproved with DD (though they covered the first cleaning)! This is a company whose edict apparently is "the customer is always wrong". The money requested is not for me but to go directly to the dental office on the attachment. (I believe it is $209 but DD can check with them). Dealing with DD has been a nightmare and judging by reviews and complaints I am not in the minority. Thanks BBB, *******Business Response

This complaint concerns two claims:1) Claim #************** - May 10, 2024 I have all-on-fives on both upper and lower arches. On May 10, I went to BioDental for my six-month cleaning. These two items (D6080) are the only items in dispute. The other items on the claim were previously sent and processed. Both arches (upper and lower) were removed/cleaned/replaced. I paid $300 ($150/arch) to BioDental and BioDental sent the paperwork to Delta. The *** states that the payment to me was not approved because "Benefits could not be determined because proof of payment was missing." On December 2, I sent a copy of my invoice from BioDental dated 5/10/2024 as well as the receipt for $300 charged to my credit card, along with a copy of the claim to Delta Dental at **************************************** via **** Priority Mail via tracking at a cost of $10.45. **** Tracking #********************** shows the item was delivered at 10:43AM on December 4, 2024. There was no further action on this claim. I'm still awaiting my $300 payment.2) Claim #************** December 6, 2024. Similarly, this was a six-month visit to have both arches removed/cleaned/replaced. I paid $300 on my credit card to BioDental. While the $150/arch ($300 total) is legitimate, payment to me was not approved due to: "We need to know the tooth or areas of the mouth that were treated." These are the only "teeth" I have as there are two arches in my mouth (upper and lower) with all of my teeth - reflected in all my previous claims for the past year.I called Delta Dental this morning at 7:57AM PT. After a polite 30 minutes on the phone, neither ***** nor ******* could assist --- other than advising me to file a grievance with the company, which I have done. While I believe in crossing "t's" and dotting "i's", this appears to be a case of obfuscation and denial for the sake of corporate profit. I have been a Delta customer for many years. Why is compensation for this preventive procedure so difficult.Business Response

I had purchased dental insurance through ****************, and it is Dental Dental. I paid two premium payments in January, and the insurance was supposed to begin on 02/01/2025. It is not found in Delta Dentals system. I have called ****** and Delta Dental numerous times. ****** has tried conference calls with Delta Dental on a number of occasions, some with me on the phone. Today, our conference call resulted in Delta Dental acknowledging that they could see ******'s enrollment through ******'s system, but yet Delta Dental did not have it in their system. Both the ****** representative and me were at a loss that the Delta Dental representative was unable to do anything about this. I have dental bills that should have been covered and now are in my mail inbox, and these expenses were incurred in February, as I was told that it would go through in a number of business days. I purchased this insurance in January, and we are now in mid-March and I have no further resolution for this situation, and my dentist bill is waiting to be ******* be clear: I have two charges in my PNC account for payments for the Delta Dental premium back in January. I called their customer service line in December to cancel my policy and I was told that I had to call the insurance marketplace to do so, because that is how I obtained my insurance. So I called the customer service for the ********************** marketplace and cancelled. They were supposed to email me a confirmation number, but they failed to do so. Delta Dental is still sending me bills, even though I cancelled my insurance three months ago and have never even bothered to use the policy.Business Response
