on 2/19/2024 i made a donation to Our **** of *************************** thru Change.ord.The donation was 1 time. *****. That's all!!!Instead of only taking just my donation I was signed up for a monthly donation. In addition my CC was charged and saved by this fraudulent company. I have unsuccessfully tried repeatedly to get my money back and to have my CC removed from their system. NO GO! We are trying to save a *************** from demolition and change.org jumps in for their own profit. Absolutely ridiculous. I have been able to close my account but not to erase my CC info.Would like my money refunded and WANT THE MEMEBERSHIP that I DIDNOT sign up for STOPPED! At once. ***** has been notified. The ***** that Change.org is planning on withdrawing on 3/20 /24 will hopefully not occur. This company is misleading and fraudulent.Thank you

There was a petition on change.org against myself that violated their own terms of use. After notifying them 3 times they finally removed the petition. However when you ****** search my information that is the top result on ******s search engine. I am asking that any and all mention pertaining to my name and/or private information be removed from the site and the search results removed as well. The only reason the result exists is due to someone using change.orgs site maliciously, violating the sites terms and conditions, and it finally being removed because of such. But with that as the top search result, it still provides ungounded and defamatory content.

Apparently Change.org has been charging me for years without my knowledge--and the crazy thing about it is that I know I had to cancel my debit card and have a new one reissued for other reason (with a different number) and change.org was still ale to charge my card!! I'm working with my bank to sort this out and from what I can see this has been going on for 4 years --I"m seeking reimbursement!

I was prevented from using my account and exercising my right to free expression by Change.org- an organization that claims to be diverse and inclusive. However I was censored from leaving a comment, replying to a comment and reporting a comment on a specific petition. As a member, I am allowed to do this, but everytime I tried to the form would either not submit or I was told there was an error and to try again. I did this several times. I had not written anything inappropriate, nor did I violate any terms. I was entirely shut out for no reason other than I held opposing views to those expressed in the petition, but I was censored and prevented from expressing them. Change.org is known to discriminate against Christians and conservatives and this petition was related to a religious issue. Oddly enough, Change.org allows other commenters to leave bigoted, hateful and defamatory comments against religious people, but apparently they cant be reported. So they allow hate speech from one side while censoring the other side when they object to it. I would love to hear them explain to me if I am misinterpreting the situation. Unfortunately, they make it impossible to reach them: no phone number, no guaranteed email back. I cant even locate on the site where to go to delete my account.

A petition was started to reinstate someone back to their job. The employee found out and told her the petition must be removed immediately or she will face legal action. I started the petition and emailed change.org 5 times to permanently remove the petition for the sake and well being of the employee. They refused to comply stating we have to notify the supporters. We do not want to notify anyone who signed the petition because some of them that signed were imposter who informed the employer of the petition. They dont care about the safety or livelihood. We want the petition removed without updating anyone that have signed it. We have notified our supporters during a virtual meeting and that all we need to do. Had we know this was a policy ********, we would have never started a petition. This is outrageous. Take it down change.org

I contributed to change.org for a petition recently and only noticed as my **** was being charged that the box beside save my credit card information was already checked by them. It was too late to correct and I have emailed the company to demand that they remove my private credit card information from their system, but no response. I never check the save button on any payment/contribution via the internet. Far too many companies have had this information hacked from their records. I checked billing issue as this was the closest choice. I was going to cancel my membership, but I would still have my financial information on their system. Can you help get me some resolution to this issue please?

In April 2021 I clicked a petition link to support a campaign shared by a friend on social media via Change.org. I also opted to "chip in" for a one-time donation of $3. As a result of "chipping in" to this particular campaign, I was put on some monthly donation list without my knowledge or consent. By being automatically enrolled on this donation list, I was charged $3 to my credit card monthly on behalf of Change.org without my knowledge. I did not notice the monthly charge on my statement until November 2023. In reviewing other submissions to the BBB relating to Change.org, and other on-line reviews of Change.org, it seems that many others have fallen for the same trick. I want Change.org to refund all of these monthly donations made since April 2021 immediately.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/06/2023

Hi there! I have gone ahead and refunded you over a year's worth of transactions, back to April 2022. That is above and beyond our stated refund policy, and I hope you find this satisfactory.

I am rejecting this response because: I received a customer service e-mail today at 4:03 EST from Change.org that indicates I will be refunded the full amount of all monthly charges dating back to April 2021. However, the response here on the BBB platform only states a refund back to April 2022. The Change.org refund policy is irrelevant, as the charges were made without my knowledge or consent. I will only accept a full refund of all monthly charges, dating back to April 2021. I will not accept the response until I actually see the funds clear my credit card statement.

    Sincerely,

Page 2 We were told by change.org repeatedly they can not share the donors email addresses. Again, in another response we were told they don't even request email addresses. When i brought up the fact that our group had specifically did not want a donation location on the site. Here is the last response."Surely, I completely understand your concern with this, and while an email address is needed to create an account and sign with your information. However, for security and privacy reasons, we can provide you with our supporters email addresses, which is why this detail is not included in the file. Regarding the contributions, to clarify: These contributions are not meant as a fundraiser, but as a way to help your petition reach more people, and keep our platform up and available for everyone who uses it" " One time contributions are directed to the petition's promotion, meaning that help you generate more views, which may lead to possible signers."Our group did not sign on with change.org in order for them to extract money from OUR supporters. And the signer is asked to donate AFTER signing the petition. I am not an attorney but this sounds like fraud and theft. Also on your web site i have since seen that somehow change.org has created unauthorized monthly withdrawals through similiar "petitions". I have no idea how many of our supporters donated money. The few that we have found, repeat few, have contacted banks and credit card companies disputing charges as a scam. We need to be able to get the ***** list from change.org to alert our supporters so they are aware and take appropriate actions.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/02/2023

    Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. I have read your complaint as well as our correspondence with you. I understand that you would like to contact anyone who chipped in to your petition to ensure that they are comfortable with that money being used to promote your petition through Change.org rather than going to yourselves as a donation. However, we are unable to provide that information due to confidentiality. What I can recommend is sending a petition update through our website - that will go out to anyone who has signed your petition. If you use that function, you'll be able to let people know to reach out to us at *************** should they require any assistance with refunds and so forth. I can also confirm that we have turned this feature off on your petition so new signers will not be asked to help promote your petition.

I truly hope this addresses your concerns and gives you a good next step to follow.

    Complaint: 20807467

I am rejecting this response because:

    1) The donors did not chip into our petition. As we did not open a donation request. As change.org told me in a previous email the contributors chipped in " to keep our (change.org) platform up and available". The term would you contribute XX$$ to get your petition on the agenda led people to believe they were donating to the cause. Not to change.org. And that request came up right after signing the petition. Not before as was previously emailed by change.org.

    2) Why would someone go back to a petition site after they have already signed and/or made a donation? They would have no need to return to the petition a second time. Therefore never know that there had been an issue and could be able to get a possible refund.

    3) ********* feels scammed on so many levels. Not having addresses available to present along with our petition. And certainly not having addresses for these contributors, either to send them a letter of thanks that *** be needed for tax purposes. Or in this case let them be aware of an issue with that donation. My question would be why would our group want to re-open the petition giving change.org another chance at creating more issues. There was a saying ...Fool me once shame on you..Fool me twice shame on me. Sorry our group does not feel ready to be fooled a second time.

    Sincerely,

    *********************

    Business Response

    Date: 11/06/2023

    Hi there,

    Let me address your concerns:

    1) When someone is asked to chip in after signing, we state that this is to boost your petition's visibility to hopefully get more people to sign it. We never state that this money will go directly to the petition stater. We also have a membership program that is separate, and I'm sorry if there was confusion between the two.

    2) When you send a petition update, it will go out to all of your signers by email! So this should still work as a method of communication.

    3) We are unable to share addresses as this would be a breach in the security of their personal information. Again, you can always send an update to your petition staters through our platform. I hear that this isn't a set up that works for you, and if you'd prefer to use another platform in the future, that's totally up to you.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 11/08/2023

Reply to number 1, they claim they state after signing that the money donated goes to boost our petition's visibility. How does " would you like to donate $$$ to get your petition on the agenda?" They also say the donor might be confused because of their membership program. No where on that screen do I remember anything asking me to join their membership program.

Reply to #2, They want us to re-open the petition . Stating any update we post will go to those who signed. " So this SHOULD still work as a method of communication. My reply to them was quoting the old saying...Fool me once Shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me..If the group felt scammed the  first time, why would we give them a second chance scamming us again? And the single word SHOULD not will does not instill trust that it would actually work.

Reply to #3, Restated that a petition presented to a municipality without addresses is pretty useless.
I personally have been getting emails from change.org asking me to sign petitions for other groups. I do not believe I ever was asked to be on their email list. So the email list that they refuse to share with us to both have when we turn in. Not to mention to reach out to those contributors to alert what they have contributed to(or not). Change.org seems to be using for their mailers looking for signatures outside of our petition.

Oh, and after my last response I was sent a survey asking me how I liked dealing with the change.org customer service.

I truely believe, as do  the other core members of the group, that this is a scam on so many levels. Especially reaching into unsuspecting people's pockets for money. And if what I read on your site from other groups once change.org somehow creates monthly withdrawals from those people is that not stealing. theft by deception. Whatever. Those people will think our group is behind the withdrawals. And as I see in many change.org's responses that those withdrawals must be part of a scam.
First true statement Ihave seen since I filed this complaint. But I think it's their scam.

    Wed 11/8/2023 3:15 PM
I went on line on the 6th and responded. I do not remember the time. I tried to print off both responses for my file but only got the BBB and the change.org

    Hi there,

Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned earlier, the only way for you to contact your supporters is via the update function. I am rejecting this response because: the group disagrees with the response and the outcome. It appears we are stuck in a stalemate. I have also noticed under change.org' terms of service disclaimer is parented by ****** as well as powered by GoDaddy. Will be filing a complaint with both of these companies. It is a shame that people go to change.org with the feeling that our group's supporters will be in a safe enviornment, only to run into an issue such as this. Sad that this is how change.org feels they need to make money off of those supporters. These people are supporters to a cause. Not contributors to change.org
