Complaint Against Thumbtack for Unjust Lead Charges Dear whom ever this may concern I am writing to file a formal complaint against Thumbtack regarding unethical practices related to lead charges. I have been consistently charged for leads that have proven to be unresponsive, unreachable, or have outright canceled jobs. This not only raises concerns about the quality of Thumbtack's lead generation system but also results in significant financial losses on my end.Despite my attempts to address this issue with Thumbtack, I have encountered extreme difficulty in reaching their customer service. The lack of responsiveness and generic, canned responses have left me without a satisfactory resolution to my concerns. The inability to communicate with Thumbtack exacerbates the frustration and financial strain caused by the unjust charges for unproductive leads.I kindly request the Better Business Bureau's intervention to investigate this matter thoroughly. Thumbtack set their system up to not take any phone calls so youre texting someone the whole time youre trying to resolve issues. This particular complaint I was charged 90 dollars the phone number the client gave was not her number and the person stated they didnt know her I expressed this and was told I well not get a refund

Customers can only reach out or book you if their project details match your targeting preferences. You're investing in getting your business in front of potential clients, which doesn't always mean you'll be hired.However, we hope that you are.
Customers are searching for the right professional for their job. While we help in this search, it's up to the professionals to sell themselves. This includes making the customer feel confident in providing an address to someone online or increasing the chances of getting hired for the job. If a customer chooses to go with another pro, this isn't a refundable situation; if a customer doesn't respond back to you, this isn't a refundable situation.

I am rejecting this response because:
I am aware of your refund policy however the customer instant booked me and never reached out she lives an hour away from me which basically says drive all way to her house for her to possibly not answer the door. I can see if I was charged ***** dollars thats an easy loss but to lose 50 dollars one week then the next week 90 dollars these fees add up. You guys could have even called the number she left me with to learn that she have the wrong number from the jump. You guys keep saying refer to the refund policy but maybe you should go into detail when it comes to it because you have the options there for a refund but if the description doesnt match what you guys like you dont issue a refund. Im not gonna argue back and forth about why I should be refunded but you guys really need to fix your platform because from the looks of the reviews Im not the only person having an issue with this. Why hurt a trying business when everyone could be satisfied and winning

So I've been using thumbtack for about 8 months and it's been great at times and the sometimes not so great.Recently I was charged for a job lead and when I contacted the (customer) there was no reply. After a week I still hadn't received any communication from the customer yet ********************** took $60 from my account. I tried multiple times to talk to someone but there's no live representative to talk to.I sucked it up and paid the $60 and then received another job that was I was charged $59.86 for. After contacting the customer and confirming that he's 81 years old and clicked my profile by accident and that he doesn't need any work done it was a mistake, thumbtack denied my refund and there's no one to contact or talk to. I signed up for thumbtack and gave them my credit card info to pay for direct leads. Appx 2 hours later my cc was charged for the amount of $18.75 the homeowner canceled i contacted thumbtack for a refund with no response a week later i received email notice that my account was suspended due to non payment i still have not received refund and its been 3 weeksBusiness Response

Used thumbtack to find someone trusted to mount my new television. Installer mounted tv too high and not centered. Asked installer and they stated it was tilted down even with tilt. Tv hurts neck to watch and isnt properly centered. Installer was also given some items (tv and chest of drawers) that I planned to donate to charity as installer was in need. Installer dropped TV causing damage to my floor. Contacted Thumbtack to file dispute and installer was rude and called me a liar and refused to provide money to cover repairs for damage.Business Response

on January 18th I was booked for a direct lead on Thumbtack. I was charged $43.94 for this lead. I responded to the client asking her what type of services will she be needing. Left my phone number and the very next day January 19 the booking was cancelled. That same day I see the same exact lead on thumbtack for $18.94. Huge difference from what I was charged. So they charged my card $43.94 for the lead. I complained and wanted my money back onto my card. They instead gave me credit for more leads on the website. This place is a fraud. I am being charged for fake leads as well as paying for leads that customers then cancel. Thumbtack has recently started an instant book feature which is not an option you have to use this if you use the platform the customer will instantly book you and you are charged accordingly. Over the past few weeks we have been receiving fake leads. Real numbers but bogus jobs and also some fake app generated numbers . Customers saying they did not book this service, we have even arrived at the job and people have stated they did not book this. When you call thumbtack its impossible to speak with someone. So you have to message and they want you to provide proof.. but they also all of a sudden never answer the phone all they do is tell you this is a lead based platform and you will be charged for your business being put out there.. but the issue is when were being charged for jobs they are Not real! That is a scam thats are taking money from ppl and refuse to own up to it! This is not something that has been happening it literally started when they created the instant book feature which is also so ironic that now its impossible to speak with an agent. If I have 15 minutes to get the customer to cancel but they arent real, not answering, or they agree to the job and then say I didnt book this service when you arrive how are we supposed to rectify the situation in 15 minutes especially when we can not get a thumbtack agent on the phone its literally impossible !! It is so wrong if them to create this problem and hide their hands and I really hope something is done about this the instant book feature should be a option or fully removed because it is causing major issues and they are reaping the benefits while the small business contractors suffer with no help we deserve to be treated fairly. On 11JAN24 I received a direct lead for a wedding photography service of 8 hours. I was charged $245.13 for this lead. The lead had a max ****** of $2500 which is not reflective of my profile preference which is set to $4000 for an 8 hour job. I have reached out to support for a refund the same day which was denied. I have challenged the decision oncemore and was met with another denial due to "direct lead matched your preference." The response from support are generic and does not support or ****** a reasonable solution or explanation, the policies are vague and much can be within the misinterpreted. I am rejecting this response because: I understand the preference was set at 7+ hours for a charge of up to $245 for the lead. My argument is directed to the actual lead where the leads budget was $2500 *** for 8 hours while I have set my proce for $4000 minimum for an 8 hour wedding. This is the issue and I feel like thumbtack is gravitating their decision to how much they charged me for the lead not the actual preference set for the leads I'm willing to accept.
