i went through the intake process and provided them all of my information from job status, home owner to having a 401k and regarding my tax situation. ******* said we can help you solve your problem but there are not guarantees. fast forward 7 months later and $4k later then inform me that they cannot help me with my problem because i have a job, own a home and have a 401k. i ask why would you all take my money if you knew all of this information for the start of the consultation. This is bad business practices.Business Response

My wife and I have been in tax debt for quite sometime mainly do to the interest charged by the *** daily. I spent years debating on whether or not to use a tax firm. After much research i chose Optima as i heard a lot of ads on the radio. Upon initial call i told the representative that we had a current payment play with the *** of $345.00 and could not afford to pay 5k and have no result. She(****) assured me based on our information that Optima could do something. Months have gone by and i just got a final resolution call. Their final resolution was to tell me that we were able to obtain a monthly payment plan of $345.00 and that's it! We already had that in place. I want all of my money back immediately. You have put our family in an even worse situation than before.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me to refund a minimum of $500.00. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Hi, I hired Optima Tax to help me with the resolution process with the *** in July, 2022. I paid ****** for initial fee. They asked for paperwork and I sent it in via client portal. Over the next couple of months, a few different people contacted me and they tried to tell me that they wanted to go through my whole audit that was already completed to see if they could find any errors. I explained to them I had already signed & filed a paper with the *** that I accepted the changes (additional money owed) so there was no need to do that. From that point on I continued to contact people explaining *********** again that I only needed help setting up a payment program with the *** but while I continued to pay ******* per month, my case with them never progressed. I called numerous times asking for a manager to call me, someone call me to try to move forward but if I did get a call back, they had no idea what was happening with my case. I paid ******** and Im not one bit closer to resolving my matter than when I hired them. On December 6, 2022 I wrote an email to *************************, who is part of the *********************** I do have that email saved as well as another email to customer service requesting a manager to call me, they never did. **************** did call me on Dec. 8 saying that they would give me ****** back and I wouldnt have to pay the remainder of the contract with them (*****) I refused. I didnt receive anything but a ton of aggravation from these people. They did not deliver on one thing that they promised. Their services are a joke, extremely unprofessional. I am writing to request my ******* back. They have severely put me more behind and I truly need the money to hire someone that can actually help me. I would really appreciate your help.Business Response

I had another tax firm complete my 2018 taxes and they left off one of my W-2s in the return. Owing a large amount of taxes, I turned to Optima to help fix my 2018 tax return and hopefully lessen the penalty amount. I signed ***** of ******** documents, agreed to allow them to complete my 2020 return and paid their fees. I submitted the documents required to prepare my return in late February and March 2022 and assumed from the lack of communication from them, they had everything needed to complete my 2020 taxes. As the April deadline approved, I called several times and was told they were still working on the return and would contact me to go over it. They never attempted to contact me. In the three weeks preceding April 15th, I called over 20 times and ether got put on hold for between ***** minutes and then disconnected. On one occasion, while on hold, the phone was picked up, I heard people on the other end speaking, and then I was hung up on, Other occasions I just got a busy signal. I never had an opportunity to question the tax preparer about my return before I felt I had to submit it. I wrongly assumed the return was correct when I submitted it. On 12 September I received a letter from the *** indicating I failed to report $45.156 income and owed an additional ******, Upon investigation, the income was from my military retirement pay, the ****R was in the package of documents I sent them. In addition, taxable dividends, capital gain dividends were not reported. The ****-DIVs also were in the package of documents that were submitted. On 9 December, I received another letter from the *** that I owe more taxes than what they identified in their first letter. Optima Tax Relief sent me an incomplete and incorrect return to file and then refused to admit that there were errors in the return of their doing and will not address it. I am filing a DD14157 with the *** against them and am contemplating litigation.Business Response

In that discussion on 11/16/2022, Optima Tax Relief only said they were sorry that I lost my security clearance and my job over their mistake on my tax return, but there was nothing they could do about it, unless I entered in a new contract so they could negotiate with the **** Since that time, I have had no further discussion with them over the matter.Initial Complaint

2.5 years ago, I contracted with Optima to resolve a tax issue. I paid them a significant amount of money as agreed, they told me it would take approximately 6 months to complete resolution. I submitted requested documents, was informed that my submission was completed and I waited. Any time I would request an update, they would respond with a request for more documents, often times stating that it was a second request despite never having sent a first request. I faxed requests for resolution/updates several times, was able to have a conversation with an agent who offered me 2 options for resolution, he said he would call me back, never did. Optima says they have no record of this call or his offer. This cycle of asking for updates, requests for additional documents/form completion with receipt confirmation stating they had received everything they needed continued. At one point, I stated that I wanted all further communication in email form as the phone contacts were not trustworthy. I did finally call and spoke at length with a man who took information and said he was passing my case on to the resolution department/tax professional and I should hear back by the end of the week. Never heard back. Called to try to reach him after about 3 weeks, no response. Finally dealt with IRS myself, got a resolution. Have sent multiple messages to repeat all of the above, stating that I no longer desired their services as well as requesting a refund of the majority of the money I had paid them. I have received no reply. In reading other complaints, I see that I am not the only person that Optima has treated this way. I am only willing to communicate with them in writing (email) so that I have a record of what they are telling me, I want a refund. Hopefully, you can help me with this.***************************Business Response

I Hired Optima *********** to help me with my tax problem. They did file my 2020 taxes and charged me over $3,000 to setup a payment arrangement that was to high. It took along time for them to do that. I couldnt afford the payments And they didnt Negotiate a lower amount for us to pay. I I called the *** myself and got a lower payment on my own. Also I added another tax year and still the payment was lower then what they got me. I think they owe us some money back since i got a better deal on my own. You can just call the *** first to see what they can do for you and save lots of money. I wish I had done that first.Initial Complaint

I hired Optima tax relief back in May 2022 to help me with a tax debt from my 2018 taxes with the ************************ They were paid to get me on a payment plan for taxes owed and to stop any further collections, liens, levies. I paid an initial payment of $295 for them to evaluate my case and see if they could help. They reviewed my information and said they could help. We were assured that once hired they would begin negotiations and get me on a payment plan as well as stop any further action being taken for collection. After I made 5 monthly payments of $1,308.33 each for a total of $6,541.66 my bank account was levied/lien and every ***** in my account was taken, leaving me in a financial hardship. I contacted Optima on 11/29/22 and let them know I know longer needed their services. Optima to this day has not contacted anyone on my behalf or begun any negotiations. I asked them to refund my payments I had made since they had not done what they were paid to do. I entrusted them to do their job as they said they would, and their lack of action is what directly caused my account to be taken. I feel like I was scammed out of my money since I was assured on a recorded line that they would get me on a payment plan and that my house, car, bank account and any assets would be safe. They will not refund my money and any help getting my money refunded would be greatly appreciated.Business Response

I hired Optima Tax Relief for assistance with past tax issues. I explained my situation to the initial rep, who promised me they would help me resolve and possible receive a refund as a result of my filing. I explained I had identity theft and haven't been able to file taxes for years because of this. I also am not able to obtain past W2s in order to file. They promised they'd be able to obtain this information directly from the *** and file. However, since I opened my case with them and made payment, a different rep seems to review each time I call, who doesn't understand my problem and they keep insisting that I furnish old W2s that I DO NOT have access to. Some of the companies I worked with went out of business during Covid. I've requested a refund via email a few days ago and someone finally calls me back, only to 'set up an appointment to discuss my request'. I've made it clear to them that I do not want to continue, since the outcome nor the process is as they promised and I just want my money back. I feel I've been scammed out of my hard earned money.Business Response

I enlisted the services of Optima Tax Relief in August, 2022, seeking advice and options for paying my past due federal taxes (all tax returns filed for previous years - I was just seeking counsel and solutions for the best payoff strategy). It is clear to me now that I was "sold a bill of goods" by their interview agents and project managers. With initial "optimism" that they were the "experts" I was seeking, I paid them over $5,600 which included their $295 startup fee (and I have since learned that this total fee is based upon a percentage of the total taxes I owe). Their first piece of service for me was to complete my 2021 personal tax return (for which I had filed an extension) so that I would be current with the *** regarding all filings. This is when it became immediately clear that their customer service is horrible and literally non-existent!!!!! I uploaded all necessary personal documents to my "Client Portal" with them on September 6, 2022 ... allowing plenty of time for them to complete my tax return before the October 17, 2022 deadline. That deadline came and went, and after weeks of calling their customer service line (before and after the deadline) to get answers and updates, they FINALLY completed and filed the tax return 3 WEEKS LATE. So, now I owe the *** an additional $220 for late filing. So, I recently had a phone call with their ************ *********** simply requesting a cancellation and a full refund, minus their fees for completing and filing my 2021 personal tax return. I was offered a meager $500 refund to stay under their service ... or a $780 refund to cancel services. I told them this was completely unacceptable given the COMPLETE LACK of service and followup, and that I would continue seeking a more complete refund through other means. BOTTOM LINE = DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE FRAUDSTERS AND SCAM ARTISTS.- from a very disappointed consumer who was sold a completely worthless bill of goods from "snake oil salesmen"Business Response

I reject this response from the Business (Optima ********** because it is NOT in good faith.
Optima ********* has indeed reached out to me with a refund offer, but it is FAR below a good faith amount. I paid them over $5600.00. Their refund offer to me was either (a) $500 and retain their services, or (b) $780 and terminate their services. Again, this is NOT in good faith. The only services they performed for me was to pull my IRS transcripts (which I can do myself) and to complete and file my 2021 Personal Tax Return (so that I would be up-to-date with all IRS filings and we could move towards negotiations with the ***** I submitted all info to them for my Tax Return completion 6 weeks prior to the filing deadline (10/17/2022) and they missed this deadline by 3 weeks. This cost me MORE MONEY ($221.00) in late fees. I also had to pay an additional $980 in Georgia State Income Tax that was not indicated on the State Income Tax Return they compiled for me.
So, I requested a cancellation of my services and a FULL REFUND, minus their costs for completing my 2021 Personal Tax Return. This, in my view, is a good faith response and in keeping with good business practices. I am making the same request here:
I request a FULL REFUND of the $5600.00 that I paid to Optima *********, minus their costs for completing my 2021 Personal Tax Return (which was completed late and cost me more $$).
The general marketplace value of completing and filing a Personal Tax Return is $500.
So in conclusion, I request a refund of $5100.00 from Optima *********.
