I had gotten a loan with Uprova and the APR was hidden from me until after i signed the documents, and its at over 490%! This is illegal in my state. Only $7 of each biweekly payment of $158 goes towards the principle. Ill be stuck paying this off for ages with the interest.Initial Complaint

The problem is I am being charged 217% interest on a $500.00 loan. Since June ive made 9 bi-monthly payments of $117.00. I have paid $935.00 dollars towards my loan. My state does not allow intrest rates this high, therefore this loan should be null and void. If I pay the entire loan i will have paid back $2,105.00. This has to be predatory lending. I am at the point where I will seek legal action against this company.Business response

I took out a loan with Uprova in the amount of $1200.00. I have now paid them $781.89 and my account shows I owe more than I borrowed still at $1221.56. This is ridiculous and predatory. I have looked up the laws in ******* and the interest rate that they are charging me of ******% is illegal in ******* and is taking advantage of people who don't have the best of credit. They want to charge me 4 times the amount that I borrowed. I am not willing to pay this and don't feel they were upfront about how much it was going to cost me until after I signed the paperwork.Business response

I was seeking a quick loan to get myself out of a financial bind and I applied with Uprova for $1000 loan on 09/08/24. I was approved and asked to e-sign loan paperwork but I did not get to review the documents prior to signing. Now it's the eve before my first payment and I was shocked to learn that only $44 of my $209 payment will going to my principal and the rest to interest, which is actually criminal in my opinion. I see that there is the option to pay additional to your principal or pay the loan off in full (which I'm deciding which route I'm going to take without putting myself back in financial peril) but I can't even make an additional payment at the moment for a reason that's unclear to me (maybe because it's the first payment). I plan to call Uprova in the AM about this, but if I knew that this would be the result of borrowing money from this agency I would have made other arrangements. I recognize I made a poor decision in an act of desperation, but this business's practices are very predatory.Business response

I will be contacting the BBB. I cant believe that you all would take advantage of an elderly woman 73 years old borrowing $1200 from you all and paying back $4,690 so this company charges ******** for me borrowing *****. On a fixed income at 1100 per mth how could you do someone like this I have to pay ****** every two weeks which is terrible. Received an email from this company stating that I opened a loan dated Sept 4, 2024. The loan is apparently in my maiden name ****** however I never opened a loan and the checking acct they have listed to withdraw payments from is not mine. I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the lending practices of Uprova. I approached Uprova during a challenging financial period, seeking assistance and relief. However, I find myself trapped in a situation that is predatory and illegal.The interest rate on my current loan which was taken out on 7/29/24 with Uprova stands at over 490%, which I believe is excessive and in violation of the lending laws in the state of ********. Despite my consistent biweekly payments of $260, the loan balance shows minimal reduction.I am concerned that Uprova's practices exploit vulnerable consumers who are facing financial difficulties. The terms of their loans seem unreasonable and potentially illegal, taking advantage of those who have limited options. It appears that the company knowingly targets individuals in challenging circumstances, creating a situation where repayment becomes nearly impossible due to the exorbitant interest rates.I kindly request a thorough review of Uprova's lending practices to ensure compliance with the applicable laws and regulations. I believe it is essential to protect consumers from predatory lending practices that exacerbate financial hardship rather than providing genuine solutions.I trust that Uprova will take the necessary steps to address these concerns and ensure fair and ethical lending practices.I am also writing to formally request the immediate termination of the loan agreement between myself and Uprova's. I initially took out a loan for $1000 & my payments were $197 every two weeks. I took out the loan because I hit a rough patch. When I was about done paying they said I could refinance! So I did. It refinanced for $1,500 for $297 every two weeks!! I was almost done paying the first loan. Why did my balance not go lower ? I never received the $1,500 just the difference. That part never made any sense to me & now Im stuck paying $297 every two weeks until March 2025! Thats ridiculous. My balance is $1,295. When Ive been making payments. The total isnt even budging. This is such a scam and I was never aware of the high interest of ******. I wish I never came across this company. Im in more of a rough patch now then I was when I took out the loan !Business response

I applied for a loan through Uprova credit as I was in a financial emergency and with my recent credit history was unable to be approved through other lenders. I was approved for a loan in the amount of $1200 and the deposit went straight into my account on 9/5/24. When I was e-signing documents, the terms of the loan were never disclosed. I expected them to be on the next page of a document but they were not there. Shortly after this, I received a message on the site that thanked me for signing the documents, with no date on when the amount would be deposited into my account. I sent an email to customer service and with no response they deposited the money. They now have access to withdraw automatic payments from my account in an amount I am unsure of. I could not even recall the interest rate as I don't think it was in any of the paperwork either. I've attempted with two different email accounts to login to my account on the site and will not receive correspondence on either email. It acts as if I do not have an account with them. At this point, I would like the loan resolved. I would have no problem financing loans through them in the future had they disclosed any information to me. The only thing I know for sure at this point is that I will be making payments bi-weekly. I find it to be a bad business practice to possibly pay four times the amount on a $1200 loan with no notice.
