    Date: 06/06/2023

The owner enrolled her puppy, a twelve-week-old border collie puppy in our 4-week boarding and training program on March 26, 2023.  The owner and her husband previously brought in the puppy to meet with a trainer to discuss her issues and find out more about the program, prior to enrolling her. Colorado Dog Academys training is focused on basic obedience commands and behaviors.  The puppy was specifically trained to heel and perform her tasks on the right side in order to best accommodate the owners arm impairment, as well as worked to stop any nipping that the puppy was doing at home prior to the start of the program.  (See attached questionnaire filled out by the owneron March 26, 2023, where the owner noted that she was having issues with nipping).  The puppy learned all the basic obedience commands, including heel, sit, stay, down, up, come, place, inside/outside and kennel, as well as any behavioral issues that need addresses such as nipping, and could perform them for all of the trainers, both male and female.
The puppy completed the 4-week program on April 23, 2023,and was scheduled to do a required hour-long pickup class in order to teach the owner how to handle the puppy and continue her training at home. Upon arrival, the owner had a head contusion and an injured arm, in addition to having a physically impaired other arm, rendering her incapable of handling the leash and the puppy.  The owner attended the class for twenty-three minutes before going home, having not completed the required class to know what to do with the puppy at home. They were scheduled to return to a class the following week, which is also a required part of the program, in order to address any questions or issues that might need addressed.  The ownercancelled the follow-up class because she had broken her arm and could not handle the leash.  She did not reschedule the class nor wish to talk with a trainer over the phone. It is customary that a customer can call and talk with a trainer over the phone to address any issues that they have any time after completing the program, however the owner has never done so.  Per the training agreement (see attached), Trainer guarantees that said dog will be obedience trained for life of said dog; provided that Colorado Dog Academy training, methods are followed by the Owner and continued after the completion of original training.  The owner is welcome to schedule a class to come in and we can demonstrate the puppys commands and address the issues she is having, but since the owner has not followed the training or methods of the puppys program, or made an attempt to continue her training, there is no guarantee for the training.  It has always been available for the owner to schedule a class to bring the puppy in for additional help, however the owner has dismissed any attempt at further assistance with the puppy.  The training that the puppy received was completed, per the contract, by Colorado Dog Academy, and the owner did not complete her part of the agreement.
