On 11/30/2023, I called Neighborhood Garage Door Services. They took my name and address. I asked for a quote, which they said cost $30. The next company I called (A1) said a quote was free, so I agreed. I called Neighborhood back to cancel, and the rep said it would be canceled. I got a call saying my tech would arrive in 30 minutes. I said “Are you calling from A1?” and they said yes. He showed up around 12:15 and quoted me ~$500 to replace 10 rollers with high-quality rollers, 2 hinges, 2 cables, plus labor. When I showed him a coupon from A1, he gave no indication he was from a different company. He got to work. Then at 1:59 I got a call from A1 that they were at my house but someone was already there. I realized Neighborhood didn't cancel and sent a tech anyway, and the rep and tech falsely assented that they were from A1. At this point, I didn't feel safe asking him to leave or declining to pay since I'm a female and was home alone, so I let him finish and paid by check. He said make the check payable to Denver’s Choice Garage Doors, which was a different name still. I'm reporting this company for predatory business practices. My request to cancel wasn't honored, the rep and tech falsely assented they were from A1, they created confusion by using different names and phone numbers, and the parts and services were unsatisfactory for the price. Also, the website advertises $200 off, but this wasn't offered. I was grossly overcharged: $220.42 for cheap rollers that shouldn’t cost more than $80, and $55.43 for a $5 hinge. They completed the work, but the door still makes banging noises when opened/closed. I'll pay a fair price for the parts installed and the time spent working on it, but I hope that by lodging this complaint I can receive recompense (at least the advertised $200 discount) from the company for predatory practices and the uncomfortable situation I was put in, where I did not feel completely safe declining to pay or asking the tech to leave.
