1 starAmtrak can **** my c*** because I had a family emergency and had to miss my train. It was an EMERGENCY so obviously the last thing on my mind was oh yea lemme cancel my ticket. Called to get a refund and they said it was marked as a no show so no refund. This policy is literally so stupid and makes no sense. *** they just want the money. If they truly cared about their customers they would try to accommodate and actually WANT ME to come back.Review fromLynda Kay A

1 starWe had traveled using Amtrak for round-trip travel from **********, ** to ***********, ***We were scheduled to leave CO Tuesday evening, and return to ** by 7:30 AM on Wednesday. Unfortunately, we were caught in a storm along with having equipment issues, and we're unable to complete the trip. We were stuck in the same spot in ******** for ***** hours. During this time we were rarely informed of issues, and it was blamed on weather. At around *****PM (***** hours now in the same spot), we were informed that the train had to be tugged all the way back to ****** for engine repairs. This was the first we heard of faulty equipment being the issue. With this, we were pulled backwards and allowed to get off the train in ********, NE to stay in a hotel. We made the decision to find a rental car and drive back to ****, as the alternative was to wait for the train to get repaired and then hop back on when it finally made its way back through **. This change on travel resulted in over $500 of expenses to get home, along with an additional $100-150 spent to get water and food on the train for meals that we would not have had on the train if we had gotten home on time, or pulled to a stop to get off the train prior to midnight. While Amtrak reimbursed the tickets ($200ish total), they are unwilling to reimburse us for the accomodations we had to take to return home at a semi reasonable time to get back for pets and work. While I understand if weather was the only issue, I would not expect reimbursements. However, with the fact it was an issue with the engine, forcing it to return to ****** instead of docking in NE overnight and then going to **, I would expect any additional travel expenses to be covered by ************************* a result, we will not be traveling with Amtrak ever again, and I would recommend travelers find alternative solutions to travel that are more dependable and accommodating, rather than a company who is unwilling to take accountability.Review fromKristy H

1 starI took a train from ******* to ******** on 2/1. Due to a crash with a car, our train was delayed 5 HOURS. It took about 3 hours to clear the site (which I was able to keep track of because a family member was on scene as the tow truck to retrieve the car), they then said they were now all over service hours, so we had to wait another 2 hours for a driver from ******** to meet our train in ***** to take us back. 2 days later, they emailed me to apologize and offered a full refund. Cool right? They said 2-3 weeks. 1 month later, I called to check on it (after waiting on hold forever and/or getting hung up on a few times while on hold), she found my case number and the approval for the funds, but was unsure why it wasn't going into my account. She assured me she would look into it and call me back (this was last week on Wednesday, 3/5), because they were already closed. No call Thursday or Friday. So I called today and could not get through. I tried to text but they can't help with refunds, so I asked for a call from a supervisor, which they said I had to call. So, i am making a complaint here and hope they see it. At this point, I will be demanding more compensation for this terrible customer service experience.Review fromTanese P

1 star**************** is horrible. I Planned a solo trip to ***. I first received a very casual call to say that the last leg of my trip had to be changed because of railway issues and they were putting me on a train that would take 2 hours longer!. Well that did not work for my work schedule and I had to make 5 calls to even get a consideration. Then, there was a major snow storm in *** and I did not feel safe taking a solo trip so I cancelled. Well...sorry....too bad...no refund or credit but you can call TRIP MATES to file a claim. After being told that I needed PROOF of everything that AMTRAK told me, the weather, and the railway issue they eventually said...we cannot help you either. Not to mention the RUDENESS of the agents that I spoke with and how rushed each call was. The trip was supposed to be a bucket list item. CHECKED OFF MY LIST. I will NEVER travel Amtrak!Review fromElizabeth S

1 starTLDR: Amtrak ******** service ***** I booked a roomette from *********** to *******, **. A week after I booked I received a text that my trip had been cancelled. Called ******** service to confirm and a gentleman (who didnt really sound well informed) told me that the train was still going but my reservation had been inexplicably cancelled. I called again later that day and the second ******** service agent told me the train was cancelled due to roadwork and my reservation was not.Days later I received an email from Amtrak letting me know that the service would be disrupted but they said Don't worry, we've already set up alternate transportation for some or all of your route, and there's nothing you need to do. They did not detail what the alternate transportation was nor how that would impact my travel logistics. I called Amtrak again, hoping someone could explain the details of the alternate transportation and above all, explain the conflicting information. The third ****** I spoke to initially repeated that the train was cancelled and when I told her about the email I received, she confirmed that the service was up to **********, ** and I would be taking a bus up there from LA. but couldnt tell me how my arrival time would be impacted by the bus trip. She had to look on ****** maps to get an idea of the distances and times and said well thats a long detour. By the way there was no refund offered so I would be paying $700 for a bus ride across 2.5 states. I asked to speak to a supervisor about 5 times and told her it was the worst experience Id ever had and theyd lost a ******** and earned a poor review and she was not able to connect me to anyone else. Cherry on top was the call ending with an opportunity to complete a survey and then the survey was out of order. I ended up cancelling. Of the four, only the first ****** I spoke with offered me any kind of future discount for my trouble and it was $50. Ridiculous at every level.Review fromTom M

1 starI am so beyond upset right now. Im on the 319 train from ******* to **************. We boarded the train over 3 hours late. I would have rented a car, but we kept getting misleading updates that we would be boarding in 30 minutes. Once we did get on the train and leave the platform, we stopped outside of the station and were notified that the train hasnt passed its inspection yet and we need to refuel. Now I dont even have the option of renting a car because Im trapped on this train. If there was a way for me to get off I would. How is this ok with Amtrak? The announcer said you have been putting people on buses all week. I dont think thats ok, but its better than delaying people 5 hours without being honest about it. I have been riding Amtrak for years, but after this trip, I will be spending the $400 to rent a car instead of having to deal with this.
