      Almost a year ago I was approached about my credit card debt. I was paying $800 a month in bills. The company told me I could pay the $500 a month for 5 years and have my debt paid off. I had 2 credit cards discover and ***************. A few weeks ago I was served papers by BOA saying they were suing me. I reached out to Cordoba Legal group because they were supposed to be taking care of this without me getting sued. They said they would take care of it. They called me back a week later saying that *** refused to settle and I would have to increase my payments an additional $600/month and extend the duration of payments. I told them $1100/ month is not fiscally possible. They said That I could negotiate with *** on my own, but I would still have to keep $500 payment maybe a little less for the discover. I was advised that if I stopped doing business with Cordoba I would be obligated for the full balance of *** and discover and I would be refunded the $3400 I had already paid them. I was told this by the employee I spoke to and the supervisor. I was beginning to feel scammed by this company and didn't want to give them any more of my money. I canceled the service and reached out to *** and discover. I agreed to give them the $3400 from cordoba and make a payment plan. When I received the payment from Cordoba Legal group it was only $1021. They said there was a pending $2000 payment made in my account to ********************************************* they didn't see when they told me $3400. I am trying to get the $2000 back from this fraudulent entity that left me in a worse financial situation than I started.

      I received a phone call from **** ******* representing Cordoba Legal Firm on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 5:22pm EST. regarding debt consolidation promising an interest rate of 0% on unsecured debt. The phone call lasted for 52 minutes. There was no disclosure of attorneys fees during this phone call. I'm filing this complaint as both lackadaisical and reckless professionalism from said Cordoba Legal Firm via **** *******. The urgency from **** ******* asking my signature on this agreement is poor salesmanship. **** ******* also requested that I provide her my personal bank account information over the phone. I stated that I would not provide any of this information until I read in full the written contractual agreement.The following email was in response by myself (***** ******) to a contractual agreement between my wife (****** ******), myself (***** ******) and Cordoba Legal Firm."Attention: **** *******; Phone # **************; Email: ********************** (CCd); (Location: ************, **/**********, **)Attention: Cordoba Legal Group (CLG)I do not agree to signing for this agreement due to the undisclosed Cordoba Legal Group (CLG) attorney fees. I will be reporting this incident to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The law firm of Cordoba undisclosed fee of $15,090.75 would be a 50% interest rate on $30,181.50. The promised 0% interest is deceptive and borderline criminal." Since this time I have received no reply to my email; however, I have continued to receive text messages and phone calls, which I intently described in my email that I would not entertain. I have asked to be removed from their text/calling list to no avail. I am employed by Raytheon RTX (***************************) as a **************** Engineer, located in ***********.       Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We take your feedback seriously as we strive for 100% client satisfaction and have over ****** five star reviews.

      First, please note that **** ******* does not work for Cordoba Legal Group, which is a law firm. She works for a separate company with which is a referral company that we have worked with in the past, but she is not employed by our firm. We regret any confusion this may have caused.

      Our attorney fees are illustrated in the retainer agreement that you signed and we went over with you before you were accepted as a client. But to be clear our firm does not charge any legal fees on your debts until after a settlement is achieved, as fees are performance based, we means we only make money after the work is completed. Also it is  important to note that our fee is not an interest rate, it is a flat fee on debt settled. This fee includes any other legal work including representing you if you were to be sued by one of these creditors. This has nothing to do with your interest rates, nor is our fee anywhere near 50%.

      We of course will ensure that your request to be removed from any communication lists is honored. We will make certain that no further contact is made unless it is legally necessary.

      Email sent to ******* Cordoba (Managing Attorney) on April 5th notating the horrendous experience I've been having with this firm. It's really telling and shows his character as I have not received any kind of response to date. Below, I am going to note everything written in the email. This firm is a TOTAL SCAM AND THEY ARE FRAUDS - zero integrity and no one should sign with them because they LIE from the very beginning; what they tell you they will do to help you is not at all what they do, they actually take your money, charge you a ton of fees (which they do not disclose from the onset) and they DON'T pay your creditors in full like they tell you instead they make minimal monthly payments and the remainder of your payment goes to their firm and Your credit gets destroyed. My monthly payment is $402.42, and I've been paying this since last September 2023. The statement I received showed $100 was going towards the actual payment to the creditor and remaining $302.42 goes to Cordoba! When I received the first statement, I called Cordoba and asked what all the fees are and their answer was don't worry about it, it's just a statement, this was not correct. Email sent to ******* Cordoba to follow:"Wanted to express my grievances and share my disappointment with your "firm". It seems like you are unable to speak to an actual attorney instead you get customer service **** who basically field the calls and don't have any experience or knowledge of anything. I insisted on speaking with an attorney multiple times and they said it was not possible? I thought signing with your firm would benefit me instead I've been paying more in monthly payments than I would have been paying for both accounts I was looking to settle (Discover and ****************). They settled with Discover at 70% of original amount which 25% goes to the firm. They never contacted ***** Fargo although Cordoba stated they did; more dishonesty as ** reached out to me and said no one contacted them. More to come

      I am rejecting this response because:

      A. Paragraph 1 - The assertions are facts, and I have statements to prove it. To date, Cordoba has paid DISCOVER a mere $829.00 despite the fact I made 12 monthly payments in the amount of $402.42 totaling $4829.04 to their firm. The original amount owed was $13,300 and the outstanding amount as of today is $12,471 AFTER making 1 year of payments to Cordoba! In addition, when I spoke to the negotiations department in April regarding the offer made by ***** Fargo, they requested an additional $225.00 to be wired along with $25 wire fee to finalize the offer. I still didn't understand why I needed to pay additional funds to accept the settlement (as this was not disclosed at the time I signed with them) but since the offer made to me by **************** was greater than expected I wanted to finalize it. Shortly thereafter, I received a call back from the negotiations department advising me my monthly payment will be going up $170 totaling $574 (see attached statement outlining series of events). This was absolutely ridiculous as the original agreement signed was for 2 Accounts (Discover and ****************) and the amount was $404.42 (again keep in mind the **************** offer was better than they would have gotten) therefore why would the monthly amount go up? They make themselves out to be a firm who "helps clients in financial difficulties" that's simply not the case. Also, when they state their fees are "performance based" what exactly have they done to charge an additional $170 a month when I made the settlement offer with ****************? The answer is nothing.

      Paragraph 2 - They stated "they acted accordingly by reviewing the proposal and facilitated the necessary steps to formalize the resolution" makes absolutely no sense as I spoke with ***** Fargo that same day and confirmed they did NOT SPEAK to anyone from Cordoba (another falsehood). Therefore, there weren't any steps they took. I declined the new agreement (what they call a resolution) as they added additional monies to the monthly fee along with approximately $2800 in legal fees (there was no litigation, why are there legal fees added? Furthermore, I never spoke to any attorneys at Cordoba, despite my asking on multiple occasions since the customer service representatives were unable to answer any questions with knowledge. I was told I was unable to speak to attorneys, customer service answers your questions. This is not what I signed up for. 

      Paragraph 3 - Where they state the fee structure was outlined in the contract, they failed to mention this during the multiple phone conversations had. Also, performance-based nature of their services?? There is nothing done on their part for them to take 2/3 of the monthly payment I make as their fees. This is totally unacceptable. I have their statements where it clearly shows they've made either a $100 payment one month, another month a $200 payment, for example August 2024 they made a $100 payment to Discover, and they took the remaining $302.42 for their fees (I will forward all statements upon request) This is obvious since Discover was paid a minimal amount the past year, creating additional interest to accrue because Cordoba is taking most of the monthly payment for their fees!  This is highway robbery. Several months ago, I received a letter from Discover stating a check was bounced and action was being taken. This is horrific as Cordoba is responsible for making that payment on my behalf yet has been negligent. This is highway robbery. 

      Paragraph 4 - There is NO confusion about the **************** account on my end as I am the one who was the facilitator, contacting them multiple times, speaking to multiple representatives for several days until I finally received a call back from the negotiations ***** Every representative was unreliable and gave me the run around. I needed to pursue and persist to finally get a call back. This firm is more like a circus than a reputable firm by far. I do not wish to speak to anyone on this team as they are not trustworthy nor credible. I will take further action if they continue with their dishonest responses. All I know is I will not be paying the monthly amount for the number of weeks originally stated nor should I be paying the same monthly payment as they DID NOT SETTLE the ***** FARGO ACCOUNT only DISCOVER at a disappointing 70% which basically was no benefit on my end because Cordoba is taking 25% fee so I'm back to square one, actually in worse a position. I will not be paying them any legal fees because I did not receive legal consultation ever.

      Again, this firm is corrupt, and I don't want anything to do with them. I expect a refund of all the monies I paid them as they are charging me more in fees than making payments to Discover. I will take additional action if I don't receive a refund from them.

      I am rejecting this response because:

      Everything noted by this firm is incorrect and false. As stated in my previous correspondence, there was no effort nor contact Cordoba made to ****************. There were no calls made to **************** on my behalf from Cordoba Legal "to negotiate a resolution" nor was there nothing they needed to review from the proposal as I informed them of the 40% proposal so there was nothing they needed to facilitate on their end as they stated. What they basically did was contact me and try to coerce me to sign another DocuSign with a new INCREASED monthly payment and requested additional funds from me which is absolutely ludicrous as the original agreement was formulated for both creditors Discover and **************** so there would be NO funds I should have paid to them, yet they told me I needed to do so. 

      Regarding all the firm's outrageous fees - it's important for them to note that this was not explained upfront, as a matter of fact, never mentioned, for them to say it's clearly outlined in the contract signed is a joke. They charge more in fees every month than the payment they make to the creditor (I have statements to prove this) not on the results produced because there were NO RESULTS produced for the 1 account they settled, which was Discover where I wound up paying more than the original amount owed since Cordoba took 25% for their fee and additional funds for legal fees. The second account ***** Fargo wasn't touched, they done nothing, so the monthly payment should have been reduced yet they 

      Let me be very clear, there is no confusion on my end regarding the ***** Fargo account as I refused to sign the second DocuSign because it was unacceptable, and I communicated that to ******* on that same day I sent the settlement offer (which mind you was faxed and emailed 4 times because they continued to say they did not receive it). 

      Bottom line is I DO NOT WISH TO SPEAK TO ANYONE at this firm any longer as I attempted many times during this entire process to get answers that made sense and even reached out to the Legal Department along with ******* Cordoba **** Attorney of this firm) in April of this year and never received a response. The only reason they are attempting now is because I made a formal complaint to the BBB.

      As stated in my earlier correspondence regarding this complaint, I am looking for a FULL REFUND as they haven't paid a quarter of the amount to Discover that I have paid to them the past 12 months which has created additional interest and penalties to accrue, and my credit is destroyed. Again, they stated they would pay the creditor in FULL, and I would continue to make the monthly payments to them. This firm has UNETHICAL BUSINESS practices, and they are deceitful in many ways. This firm should be shut down as they are dishonest and are doing things very underhanded which is fraudulent. I will take additional measures should I not receive a full refund of payments I made to them.

      I have made multiple phone calls begging Cordoba to reach out AGAIN. To Midland Credit, Advance Financial, Joracredit and Cash Net as they are threatening court and to serve us papers. As of yet Cordoba is only telling ME what to verbally tell them and has refused to reach out! This was suppose to part of the services since we are paiying well over $40,000. **************** at ********************** is terrible!

      I originally signed on in January as follows A. (ent understands and acknowledges that the Division of Payments described above will resultin a total payment by client of (i) $11.023.50 for the ******************************** and (ii) $5,511.75 for CLG's attorney's fees, for a total of $16,535.25. Client acknowledges that CLG will not incur any fees until after a settlement has been initiated. After being told an additional 200 would be needed to settle a second of a total of 4 accounts , while only 300 has been paid to one settlement. I remove 3 accounts to receive a new agreement as follows 5.Division of Payments; ********************************, Attorney's Fees and Costs: A. ***** understands and acknowledges that the Division of Payments described above will resultin a total payment by client of (i) $11.023.50 for the ******************************** and (ii) $2,306:25 for CLG's attorney's fees, for a total of $19.535.25 including the additional services. Client acknowledges that CLG will not incur any fees until after a settlement has been initiated. They have pocketed ***** dollars for one settlement. They have sent me the same 3 contracts today to pay a total of $19,000+ for a $9,400 debt. To anyone reading this DO NOT TRUST THE BBB RATING LIKE I DID. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. The $2,900 mentioned is not an overcharge but rather the agreed-upon fee that is outlined in your contract. It appears there may have been a technology glitch in the calculation provided to you, and we want to clarify that the amount shown in your recent contract is wrong but the system in which everything is housed is correct and there will not be an over charge in any type of fees as the system will not allow this to happen. Again we want to assure you the amount you left in your complaint of $19,535.25 is incorrect.

      Regarding the resolution of your accounts, ********************** only collects fees after resolutions have been achieved, which is consistent with the performance-based nature of our fee structure.       While you feel the earned fee of ***** dollars is justified for one of four projected settlements while only paying out 100 dollars each month to the settlement and collecting 250+ in fees each month after taking 1500+ for the settlement reached leaving me with all of 12 dollars and unable to accept the second settlement as you emptied the savings towards it, I do not. Telling me I have to pay an additional 200 plus dollars on top of the 400 I already pay each and every month just to accept the second settlement that was attempted because you're more concerned with getting paid is not good business by basic standards. You were present 8 months ago with 4 debts and you were unable to keep your quote of 400 a month adding 50% additional to make a second settlement. I'm glad you corrected your errors in your system that's great, still does not make up for the terrible communication, the lack of communication, and the clear intent of your compensation priorities over my debt settlements. Again you reached a second settlement, I pay 400 a month to you to pay 100 towards one settlement, 60 in standard monthly fees, and the rest is taken for your compensation. You clearly prioritize your compensation before business and therefore I cancelled my contract and am here to address this.

      Cordoba wanted additional money to pay a second settlement (2/4) because they took the rest in their own fees and rather restructure their fees by leaving some room to provide a service that was outlined at the very beginning they instead refunded the fees. Their business practices are very unethical and troublesome and the BBB rating is so misleading I'm calling it fraudulent. As well as here is a screenshot of their records that they said were corrected in their last response. This business is far less than reputable and in my eyes has decredited the BBB greatly. The complaints against this business are incredibly consistent in terms of zero communication, mismanagement of funds, and how many clients drop from this program with the feeling of being scammed.

      This company has done NOTHING but take my money BI-WEEKLY ($188.00) for over 6 months i first started on 1/18/24!! The initial enrollment of morethen 10 creditors they only resolved 1 to date!! After numerous call without resolution I decided I was better off leaving! They say the same thing each time I call the extra money went to negotiations!! How when you've only made 1 negotiation in over 6 months!! But yet you told me to send extra money that would e held in an account sorta like a build up of extra funds (******)! That has been a TOTAL LIE!! I checked the account money sent via money gram is at a 0 balance!! Guess what I was told it was used for- negotiations!! These ppl need a class action suit AGAINST them. I want my extra money sent and the balance you took from me before cancellation on 8/07/24.

      I canceled the application that same day I applied. They told me that there is no penalties or hidden fees and that I will not get charged since My file hasnt been viewed. Although I asked them for a cancellation letter through email and they have not sent me anything. Which makes me very doubtful on what they said. I also signed a paper on my contract That says cancellation and I signed it. I sent it to the person who told me that my file is canceled, but it seems like its not from *******. I just want a cancellation letter from them saying what they said on the phone saying that they will not charge me, nor will there be hidden fees or any penalties. On the paper I signed for the cancellation it says I have 10 days before I could cancel. And it hasnt been ******************************************************************************************* email and thats the reason why Im making a complain.

      I was contacted regarding consolidating my debt and have a monthly payment less than what I was paying currently to my creditors and my creditors would be paid the amount in full right away and it would boost my credit because my debts would be paid and I would just pay the lower amount to the company who negotiated a lower pay off fee.In reality the company wants me to pay them for 10 months until they acquire power of attorney over me and take over all of my legal abilities. They expect me to stop my creditors payments and have the accounts default to take over power of attorney. This is criminal and not what was explained to me when I signed up. Please stop them from doing this to me and other people looking to consolidate their debt with a reputable company.
