The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.
On February 26,2025, the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) has secured an agreement with National Floors Direct, a nationwide flooring sales and installation company, to provide $250,000 in restitution to consumers harmed by the company's deceptive business practices, along with $100,000 in civil penalties. This action follows an August 2024 lawsuit alleging nearly 2,500 violations of the city's Consumer Protection Law, including false advertising, service delays, poor-quality work, and refusal to offer refunds or cancellations. National Floors Direct has also agreed to comply with local laws and modify their advertising practices to prevent future violations.
Statement from the business:
National Floors Direct has successfully, reliably and lawfully provided custom carpet and flooring installation services to hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers for more than a decade. As a family business, we are dedicated to our customers and the cities in which we operate, especially New York. Our care for and commitment to our customers is reflected in our high customer satisfaction ratings, our almost 20 years in business, our rating with the Better Business Bureau, and the tens of thousands of positive public customer reviews posted by our customers.
On February 5, 2025, National Floors Direct agreed to resolve the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection’s petition without admitting wrong doing of any kind. As it has from the beginning, National Floors Direct vehemently disputes the content and scope of the petition, which was filed without any prior notice or engagement from the Department. The petition referenced 14 consumercomplaints—11 of which were never provided to National Floors Direct—dating back more than seven years.
Unfortunately, the cost of litigating these claims was far too burdensome for a family business to bear so the company was left with no choice but to settle. With this resolution behind us, we now look forward to continuing to provide each of our customers with high-quality installation services, premium name-brand carpet and flooring products, and exceptional customer service, all at an incredible value.
