I hired Jolt Electric to install generator, manual transfer switch and all wiring and electrical work in 9/24/2018. I never discovered this work was done improperly until Hurricane **** as we haven't had any power outage or hurricanes threatening our location. When I contacted Jolt on 9/25/2022 (days before the hurricane) I got no response to check and make sure I was ready for the Cat 5 storm so I contacted another electrician who found wiring not done to code and fire hazardous work (see details in the upload), and a permit was never filed so it wasn't inspected by Manatee County as required. I was told by the electrician on site this would have never passed code and not to use the equipment Jolt installed as it could cause a fire. Everything has been left exactly how Jolt wired and I have been awaiting his response.

    Dear Better Business Bureau,

We did not recommend any generator system and as per our contract was for future generator purchase. The wiring and receptacle installed was specified for a (standard) future generator. The receptacle could either have been a 30 or 50 AMP.  I wasnt selling a generator package, just a transfer switch and outdoor receptacle. After I was finished with my contracted work, I came back when she told me she had obtained a generator. The provided generator would not run (mechanically). After that, I was never contacted to come back until a year or so later to give her a price for an extensive remodel for her kitchen. I gave her a quote and she informed me that she hired a less expensive contractor. I was paid, so I figured I was done. I never received one complaint and I was never contacted again to test another generator. I would of gladly came out anytime to help her out.

As far as the permit goes, I would have given her a Sub Contractor form to give to the Gas Contractor to be added to his permit.

4 years later and after the 1-year warranty expired, she expected me to go back and rework what I did to fit her new generator for no additional charges. That was the end of our conversation.

I do want it to be known, all work performed was per our contract and per my direct communication with the homeowner. At no time did she feel any work was unsatisfactory. My workmanship was guaranteed for 1 year and I received no complaints. This has been four years.

    Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:  I have never seen this invoice in my life--I was never given a receipt of any kind as the amount isn't even correct nor the date.  Jolt was paid the day he did the work please see attached cancelled check dated 9/20/2018. Furthermore, according to his letter it says there was no generator on premise, Please see the attached receipt/delivery confirmation of the generator 6/14/2018 which was 2 months to PRIOR created invoice.   My third comment is at NO time was a subcontractor form given for a permit as the gas contractor had not even been HIRED at the time of generator installation.  When the gas contactor was hired and came to install the gas line Jolt electric did return to my house and met with the gas contractor who was struggling to calibrate the gas line.  I am happy to get a written statement from the gas contractor which will further corroborate Jolt Electric's claim of subcontractor form for permit response is fictitious.

I sent a copy of my letter submitted to you to Jolt Electric via mail and certified mail and filed a claim against him with the ******* **************************************.  I realize years have past but we have had no need to use the generator as we have been blessed to have no loss of power or hurricanes in our area so I had no way to know of these issues until Jolt didn't respond to my concerns prior to Hurricane Ian.   At this time I contacted another electrician  to make sure I was prepared for the storm and the generator was ready to go and that is when the discovery was made of the dangerous wiring job that was done and not up to code as I detailed in my letter.

I again request the work be redone properly or compensation for someone to redo it.   I have obtained 2 estimates and have been told by both contractors they wouldn't touch the Poor Workmanship done and would start from scratch as it is a complete redo with the electrical wiring and manual transfer switch needing to be replaced.

    Sincerely,

To Whom It May ************************** of all hurricane **** hit ** in 2017 and she didn't hire me until 2018...

This job goes back 4 years and I do remember at some point a generator being there (as I said) but the generator wouldn't run. I was NEVER called back to do a start up on the generator. As far as I'm concerned if another contractor says that he would have done it differently let him do it. I'm done with this!!!  I'm not responding to anymore correspondence to this job. Due to fact that you had so many electricians looking at this there's no way of telling what anyone could have done to this between then and now. As far as the invoice goes this was a real invoice or quote, how did she hire me without this? (Looks like I gave her a ****** credit)

    Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because: nothing has been touched since Jolt did the original work.   I have made sure of it.   The work was never done correctly and was wired completely WRONG from the start--which is why no other vendor will touch it they are saying it is a complete REDO from faulty installation from the beginning.     I realize time has past--but the generator was never used, no permit filed--had it been it would have never past inspection with the county. Pretty sure when I notify the county he will be fined for that as well!   Jolt has been less than honest and I am prepared to file a claim in small claims court if I can't get resolution.

    Sincerely,
