My husband logged on to ***.gov to set up a payment plan. Somehow in the process, 97Tax popped up and my husband thought it was a part of the *** site. This site collected all of our information and the appeared to set up a payment plan and billed my husband $119 via debit card to send a "packet" for submission to the ***. This was not the official *** site and appears to be a scam. We are concerned that all of our information was taken and could be used for fraud. We want a full refund and this company investigated as to how this so easily was popping up in connection with the official *** site to deceive and collect fees, Social Security numbers and very sensitive information.

We never received any communication about this issue directly from the customer, please contact us directly for immediate resolutions of customer service issues. We are a private tax preparation company. Upon attempting to issue a full refund, I have found that the customers credit card has been closed or cancelled. The bank will now allow a refund to the original payment method. Instead, we are happy to mail a check for the refund. Please confirm the customers mailing address.Customer response

On Saturday 3/25/23 I went on this website. ********************** after receiving a letter that I presumed to be from the ************* of **************************** The site navigated me to this "97tax.com" website to set up payment arrangements. I was under the impression that I had to go through this site and paid 97 dollars to them! I have found out that is not true, and I had no intentions of acquiring a private tax company. This is very misleading, and I want a full refund! I have made an attempt to reach out to the company, but I have not received a response. Order Details #******Business response

I was contacting the *** about setting up a payment program for my 2021 taxes. When I went to their website, I was directed to another website to apply for the payment plan. The company was 97TAX. They charged me $97 to sent me a form that was free from the ***. Because the *** page makes it seem like this is the way you have to obtain the form, I feel like 97TAX was/is totally taking advantage of people. I really feel like I should have my money refunded. And also, now I'm late setting up a payment plan with the *** (they sent me a letter saying they are investigating the form I sent in at the direction of 97TAX), so will likely be charged more penalties.Customer response

We did not charge a $146 amount at any time, please contact your bank for more information. My older mother was taken advantage of by this company. This company is a deceitful lie, they look and act just like they work with the IRS but don't at all. They don't even say the company name when they answer the phone!! They took $97 from her account with no services rendered and she is on a fixed income. They now have all her information and when we have called to talk to a manager they never put one on and say they will call back which also has not happened. These people are crooks praying on the elderly!!. I would like her funds returned to her account ASAP! This is the HOLIDAYS. The name and email on this complaint is hers so I expect her to be receiving a phone call to her very soon since they already have all of her information. This is so upsetting.Business response

I made three orders through 97 Tax service, address **** E. ******* ***** ******* ** XXXXX. I thought I was on a page that was associated with the IRS and the GA state taxes. Their email link is very close to the GA State Link. They now have my and my husband's tax information. Nowhere on the webpage or the pages I printed out, state that they were not directly affiliated with the IRS or GA State Revenue. I am very afraid I just gave my information to a scam service.
