Lender/Bank Institution usually gives customers a period of 10 days to redeem their vehicle previously repossessed not stolen at 1:00am as debtor claims, now Vehicle redemption is not for us to decide on, we can only release vehicle if previously authorized in writing by Lender/Bank Institution.
Customer contacted us same day he was supposed to retrieve his vehicle to pick up personal belongings, we were very specific with him that a valid Picture ID was required to release his personal belongings and gave him an appointment same day within an hour. When debtor showed up, he said he came in to pick up his vehicle and we explained to him we did not have a release from the bank, after asking him for ID he informed us he did not have any type of identification neither picture Id. He demanded us to go through two extra-large bags of personal belongings to retrieve his drivers license so we continued to advised him we will not do that especially since we had no way of knowing if he was indeed the legal owner of vehicle/belongings. We were always very respectful letting him know that by law we can not give personal belonging without been able to verify ownership of vehicle previously repossessed.
He was clearly agitated after he contacted police, the officer explained this to him as well he needed a picture ID and even advise him on how to obtain one. He was also very rude to police officer screaming out of control even requesting a Police supervisor to be called. He then left property only to come back again and continue complaining, he went over every neighbor business telling them we refused to give him his belongings and complaining to every single one of them. He stayed outside well pass business hours, even blocked our exit so we had to call the police for employees to be able to leave premises. Debtor called us back a few days after and requested an appointment, he showed up and told our staff he was going to come back since he forgot his ID, he never did. After this he made 3 more appointments and he was a no show, he did call and let us know he had personal problems and will not make it and another missed appointment he advised us he got COVID and was sick, so he re-scheduled again.
Debtor finally showed up to his last appointment with proper picture ID and was able to retrieve his personal belongings without any type of issues, debtor was respectful and even apologized and told employee he was going through really bad time personally when issue happened.
We understand debtors can feel frustrated at times specially after their vehicle been repossess but we must follow procedures with no exceptions. We work with debtors and always treat everyone with respect but if you do not have a proper form of Identification,we wont be able to verify legal ownership enabling us to be able to do anything to help you out.
