Good morning!I have just received the mailed information regarding a complaint from this patient.I have tried to reach out to discuss this with patient but he did not respond. We always go over the treatment plan estimate with the patient prior to starting any treatment. These are clearly marked an estimate and the insurance company makes the final decision which is out of our hands. In his case we submitted the claim as required with attached xrays and periodontal charting to have them pay but they did not pay their estimated portion. The portion was not paid by the insurance company is something I would like to assist the patient in resolving but I cannot seem to get in contact with him.Thank youInitial Complaint

I went to "Smells", aka, smiles on florida, for a custom fitted denture. I paid $1,300.00 for this denture which BROKE on May 25 at 5:30 pm. As they close at 5, I couldn't contact them until 8am Friday morning, May 26. No, they couldn't see me, couldn't squeeze me in, the prosthedontist was full up. THEY HAVE TO SEND DENTURES OUT TO A LAB. THEY DO NOT MAKE NOR REPAIR DENTURES ON SITE. A FOOL WORKING ANY JOB THERE would have been able to see the break and send them to the lab. No, they make me wait to be seen until Tuesday, May 30. First, they want to xray me, "because 'You're in pain'...uh, no, I'm not, I'm here for a broken denture that's 5 months old and under warrantee. " The tech needs to get someone else. Then, they want to CHARGE ME $315.00 to send it to their lab. I took my broken denture and left. There was a call from them on my home number before I got home. They said they were mistaken, the denture WAS under warranty, and if I brought it back, they would guarantee to get it to the lab and I'd get it the following morning. By Wednesday afternoon, they still had not sent it to the lab IN THE SAME CITY THEIR OFFICE IS IN. I again took my denture and left. I demand a refund. If I have to go to another denture place and pay again, I feel it is my right to have them give me my money back as they did not live up to their side of the transaction. In fact, even if I do not get another denture somewhere else, they owe me for not giving me the paid for product and warrantee. I have the copies of receipts, including the current one where they tried to charge me an additional $315.00.Business Response

We provided service to ms.******** same day and were able to fix her denture. we have to send it to a lab since we do not have one in office. yes it would have taken 1-2 days but that isn't up to us since we aren't the same company its up to them. We would love to still fix her denture if she would allow us.Customer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because: they TELL you they will send the denture right out, yet it sits in their office on the counter for 2 days. I offered to drive the denture to the lab myself, but, oh, no...it MUST come from smiles in order to be covered. They tell me they do not keep your original molds, and that even if I ordered 2 dentures on the same day, I'd have to sit through the weeks of mold taking TWICE. I feel that these people tell one lie after another, and am unwilling to accept their "fix" which will leave me toothless for a week or more. I expressed my concern about the thinness of these dentures the day I received them. They said they'd make a note of it. I'm sure they did not. I already glued them myself, so that will now void their supposed warranty, so, I still want a refund. I have to go to a new denture lab, sit through multiple fittings again before receiving new teeth, WHY SHOULD THEY MAKE MONEY ON A SHODDY PRODUCT THEY THEY WILL NOT FIX? They SAY they'll fix them, but it really won't be better than the original, thin and breakable denture. Additionally, it will take them longer to fix than 1 or 2 business days. No, a refund is not a hardship for them. Going without teeth WILL be a hardship for me.
Sincerely,

I am a care giver for an 87 year old man. I took him to this dentist and they convinced him to do $11,000 worth of dental work and it would take over a year to finish but had to be prepaid. A few months into the work he was put on blood thinners because of blood clots. We talked to them because the Dr said he could not have the work finished because of the blood thinners. The dental office convinced us to let them keep the money in case he would come off the blood thinners. Now it has been about a year and his Dr still said no to the dental work. We went back to Smiles of Florida to get his money back. After a week they said to come get a check we did but when we got there they said there was no check here and that home office would mail it on Monday. We waited a month and still no refund. We call the office and was told that it was going to take another three weeks. We asked for home office information and they refused to give us the address or phone number saying that we have to go thru this office but this office could not write checks. The office manager got very rude with us when we tried to get the home office information and refused to talk to us anymoreInitial Complaint

Before scheduling an appointment with Smiles on Florida, I called to confirm they accepted my insurance. They assured me they did and proceeded with scheduling my appointment. My first visit was 8/3/2021. I then visited 8/23/21 and 2/22/22. After every appointment before leaving, I confirmed with the receptionist that a balance was not due and my insurance was covering it. They assured me I did not owe anything. I had an appointment for 8/22/22. When I arrived, I was told they do not accept my dental insurance and I would need to pay out of pocket for all previous visits. I canceled my appointment for 8/22 and did not receive services. I had to pay $227. They should have known they did not accept my insurance since the year before when I had my first appointment. Being required to pay for a years worth of appointments upfront was unexpected, unprofessional of the company, and put me in a tight spot. I only receive services for what insurance covers, which they obviously were not checking like they should have been if they could not accept my insurance for a years worth of appointments.Business Response

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/09/07) */ This office is under new management/ownership. The events that he has described all took place with the previous managers/owners. When we last saw (On 8/22/22) Mr. ************, we advised him then we were adjusting the remaining balance off of his account. And we have done so. That being said, we do not see validity in his claim.
