I paid $1 to retrieve a report from CheckPeople. However, there was no indication that I would be charged an additional $29.16 for a membership. Public records show that CheckPeople LLC was ordered to pay $775,000 in penalties, fees, and restitution after a civil law enforcement case found they automatically charged customers for ongoing subscriptions without explicit consent, as announced by the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office on Oct. 29, 2020.I demand a refund of $29.16 for the transaction made on 02/21/2025, and I request that my bank account be removed from Checkpeople.Business Response

On 3/16/2025, I used their site's online $1 promotion and purchased a $6.95 check from check people, on a person who stole sound equipment from me. They emailed me proof of the $1 add. I clicked no thank you to reoccurring billing. I took a screenshot where I next selected one time billing. I was careful to not sign up for reoccurring billing. They charged my bank account the $6.95 plus an extra charge of $29.17.I went onto their site to cancel and in my profile it said they planned to bill me reoccurring charges of $6.95 starting 3/25. I sent an email to not charge me and refund me and will continue to call them to cancel. There is no cancelation button on their site.Business Response

************************** offered a $1.00 trial. I proceeded, but they fraudulently did not charge my card $1 but instead charged $29.16 & $6.95. I tried to cancel the same day by phone so do not try to say I did not cancel the subscription within the trial period. The say you can also cancel "easily" on their website but there is no way too, only change your card info. Your company is a total scam. When you call the number as advertised for questions and billing that's another joke. All it does is repeat you are selected for this special offer and then when you tell the recorded messages no it hangs up on you. This is wrong, deceptive, and illegal. What you are doing is totally wrong and you will be held accountable, I can easily file a lawsuit against your company for this because its a total scam.
