      Saint Leo University has conducted a complete file review. This student was enrolled in a graduate course. ******************** understanding of the grade appeal review process is incorrect. A faculty member reviewed the appeal, compiled a detailed report, and made a recommendation to the ****. The **** reviewed the recommendation and denied the appeal based on the associated report. The instructor clearly states her policy of not accepting late work in her syllabus and reiterates this throughout the duration of the course. It is true that special consideration can be afforded to students experiencing particular hardships during the course of the term, but the hardships must be communicated to the instructor and the instructor must agree to accept late work.  This did not occur. ******************** grade appeal focused on the late submission of her final exam. Unfortunately, there were 10 documented missed assignments and/or late submissions on assignments. If the student would like to review this information in more detail, please contact Saint Leo University's Academic Advising team.

      I am rejecting this response because: the response that was made failed to rebuttal any of the nine outlined points that I made that rationalize justification for a full refund. The most recent response from the university only mentioned that a member of the academic advising team will be reaching out to discuss policies and procedures in place that lead to the appeal denial. I am not seeking any discussion over the matter of policies and procedures regarding the appeal denial. I am seeking a full refund for the reasons previously noted in my two correspondences. As noted in the previous response that I made, I made requests during and shortly after both appeal denials for an explanation. Upon my requests the university failed to provide explanations. The time for explanations has long passed and the purpose of this BBB process is to discuss the matter of a refund.
      Once again, the response from the university mentions only one of over half a dozen points that were brought up, out of what is collectively over 3000 word correspondences that I made through the Better Business Bureau. Since the universitys response that was made on July 11th, 2024, the business made four attempts to contact me personally and not through the Better Business Bureau as a mediator.
      Again, my expectation for my terrible experience with this course is a full refund amounting to $2128. Which includes tuition for the course, $2010; Online course fee, $40; and Course Materials Connection, $78.
      Quite literally, after I drafted 9 different points of reasoning amounting to an over 700 word explanation, the universitys response only states that they will personally contact me to discuss policy and procedure. I request that the Better Business Bureau steps in as a mediator as both responses from the university are not refuting the matters I claim and any further discussion seems like a redundancy.

      I submitted an appeal for my bright futures this university because I lost it while I was attending there in 2021-22 year. Before I could even submit the appeal they gave me the run around to even find the form but directing me first to osfa saying I had to appeal through them and then to a website for another states bright futures then floridas bright futures website. I knew the appeal must be done through the school because I emailed osfa and asked before I even contacted Saint ***. Saint *** told me I could not do it directly through them and I had to have osfa contact them directly for the to finally send me the form. I sent the form back along with my parents obituaries and a sap appeal letter on 1/10/23. I was told I was approved for the appeal around the 13th of January. I have been emailing osfa to ask about updates and I was first told eligibility would be reevaluated in December. But I emailed them again and was told it was never reinstated through Saint ***. I called OSFA today and was told Saint *** never sent them the approval for the appeal and I may not receive any money for the ***** year because they no longer have access unless it comes from Saint **** discretionary funds. And on top of that I cant receive my bright futures at my current school because Saint *** never did their job.

      Ive been calling saint *** graduate academics counselor line all day. I am trying to get thie SAP appeal completed so I can start school in which I was supposed to begin in Fall 2 but because of the lengthy unnecessary process to get back in such as this I will have to push it off until Spring 24. Im trying to do something as small and simple and thats to make contact with my academic counselor so we can come up with a academic plan due to extenuating circumstances that happened to back in 2016 so I can register for courses. This is causing me a delay. The process is already frustrating but when your staff is not answering their phones this further worries me. I need one of your academic counselors to reach out to me.

      I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. i  spoke to ome of there employees who stated that she we assist me with getting enrolled. Hopefully is goes smoother. If not I will reach out again via BBB to resolve the matter if need be.

      I have been harassed by your university since 2018. I have never attended your school and I am afraid with all the threats coming from General revenue regarding me and my childs livelihood. I did not graduate with my Associates until ********************************************************************************* 2018. I would like for someone to take responsibility and remove this nightmare from my life the calls are becoming too much.

      I was a student there but I am not now I had financial aid and usually before entering a class they make sure the financial aid is approved but the last time I had a class there they let me in without verifying it and did not tell me until after the class then they want to charge me for the class obviously I dont have the money to pay for it or I would not have financial aid and they sent it for collections so I quite school and quite going to church if this a representation of the ****************** I felt betrayed

      All right so apparently they're trying to collect a debt that I never knew I had from them because I tried going to school with them didn't work out I withdrew from him in time so I don't know why I'm having $8,000 in debt from a school I haven't been to for going on 3 years now so this is getting utterly annoying because I haven't been there talk to anybody about anything for almost 3 years and they're trying to collect a debt from me when I was using financial aid even though I withdrew from the classes I was in because it wasn't working out for me and now I have debt with my current school I'm going to which I understand I can't make the withdraw date and time because I was still in the military working all that you know with this school they never reached out to me they never tried to get in touch with me they never sent me any emails and never tried to call me you know and I'm just baffled that they go straight to a debt collector to try to get something that they never consulted with me about and why I even have a debt with him in the first place so if you know there are no terms here then I'm probably going to *** and I would really like a formal apology on this cuz I'm not going to sit here spending my hard-earned money on a debt for a school I don't go to anymore that I tried to go to it didn't work out like this is just dumb like this is their fault I would have had this all paid off if you know anything was there but they never try to get in touch with me you know they could have gotten in touch with me over the past from 2021 to 2022 they could have gotten in touch with me but no they go straight to a debt collector now I'm just utterly irritated to the point I'm going to ***

      Saint Leo University contacted the student on 01/25/2023 via email and received a response from the student the same day. In the response, the student advised that he would be working on paying off the balance owed slowly and needed time. The student was provided the contact information to resolve balance and acceptable payment methods. The student acknowledge receipt of this information via reply email on 01/25/2023.  Saint Leo University has provided the student the required information and has provided student with a Saint Leo contact should he have any additional questions.

      My complaint is with Saint Leo University book store. I am a single mother with no job trying to put myself through school to become a preacher and theology professor. I already struggle day to day with money. The bookstore at Saint Leo University charged me $331.03 for a purchase that I did not make. This purchase in no on my purchase history nor is there a purchase for that amount or those dates on my purchase records and the book store has admitted that they do not have records of me making this purchase. I notified them the day I seen the charge which was 8/1/2022. This charge was placed on my account on 7/31/2022 and taken off on 7/31/2022 and then recharged on 8/1/2022. I have sent them papers of my purchase history, the charge on my student account and been very patient for the last FIVE MONTHS!!!! One of their managers, ***********************, has admitted that this is a mistake on their part. The money has already been taken from my refund check, it has been five months and they still have not refunded me and are now ignoring me. This book store is a billion dollar business I am sure, yet they are stealing from single mothers trying to better their self. If I were to go in their store ant take 300 dollars out of their cash register I would go to jail right then, so how in the h*** are they allowed to steal from students. I have been respectful, nice, understanding, and patient. Now I am ****** and aggravated this should have been taken care of the day I notified them but yet it has been five months.       ***** ***** Student ID: XXXXXXXXX I requested to completely withdraw from school due to complications with Covid. I sent processed a withdrawal and properly notified my academic advisor Lisa Burnham via email and call several times. Lisa refused to accept that I was ill and not able to continue my courses and tried to convince me several times that any all documentation that I represented was not good enough to withdraw. I also was paying for my schooling via personal finance. Due to my being ill and barely able to speak. I was adamant for my withdrawal. I was not able to perform my scholarly duties or any duties during my recovery. Not only have I recently found out I was never withdrawn from Saint Leo University, they have continued to bill me for services not rendered or even requested. I attended 1 semester and paid 650.00 towards that one semester. My bill is now over 4,000. I am requesting to be withdrawal from school again and my account to be dismissed due to unfair billing practices and violation of my Covid- ADA rights. I have tried contacting this school several times which takes hours of transfers and someone will call you back, with no results. I am ashamed to have a attended such a establishment with a undutiful lack of humanity representing the catholic ,community.

There is evidence that the student was advised to follow procedures for a Compassionate Committee Appeal of the withdrawal from the 2021 Fall semester. This appeal process is in line with COVID related issues that required withdrawal from classes. The requested documentation for appeal was not submitted to address the academic and financial concerns. A member of the Saint Leo University staff will reach out directly to discuss next steps. I followed through with the instructions I was given. Which was to withdraw via the schools website. I was then advised by Lisa Burnham my request was not validated enough and refused by the registers office. Which I continue to be be billed by despite not having attended any classes due to my illness. Per your response again you have been notified that I was ill and now your requesting that my previous attempt to advise you I was to sick to attend classes was not submitted properly because I didn't submit it via a unknow compassion process. This is horrible business and lacks the very compassion it is named for!!! Standard accredit school ,practice is a withdrawal process in which I completed. Your response advising that you require a committee of compassion to withdraw a ill student who is unable to participate in classes. I find to be obstruction of withdrawal and unfair business practices. I will also be reporting to the board of school accreditations. (ACCSC) Please also provide me with such evidence that this was even offered to me. I am again requesting that my balance be resolved to zero and to please stop billing me for services not rendered. Which doesn't require a compassion committee but instead fair and accurate billing practices! According to the request date and the university policy the student would be responsible for the full tuition and fee charges for the term. The suggestion of utilizing the Compassionate Committee Appeal is to address the students concern regarding the billing. By following the process of the appeal and providing supporting documents, the committee can take into consideration the students request to have the charges removed from account based on the condition of reported illness. In doing so, the financial obligation in question could be lower or eliminate. Without following this appeal process, Saint Leo University can only follow the published policy as it pertains to withdrawals and tuition refunds. A member of the Saint Leo University advising staff reached out via the phone number on file June 9th 2022 to discuss the process and left a voicemail for the student. Saint Leo University asks that the student please return the call as soon as possible so we can continue to assist you with the stated concerns.
