On 5/18/2024 a Fontana Brothers tech visited to check heat pump system at my house as the unit was performing poorly. The ** tech determined that the system had a refrigerant leak.I was sold a leak package where ** would return twice to look for the leak. The ** tech added a ** dye pack and recharged the system. I believe I spent about $700.00.Three months later a ** tech came back and could not find the leak. I asked the tech to remove the top of the heat pump, but he declined and only looked through the side panels of the unit.The ** tech told me if there was a leak he would have been able to see it.On Feb 21, 2025, a ** tech made the second visit and was unable to find the freon. Again, I asked the tech to remove the top of the heat pump. The ** tech pried the top open 5 inches.The ** tech did have a freon leak detector, but accidentally dipped the probe tip in water (inside the heat pump) and couldn't use it.The ** tech was unable to find the leak. As a side note, ** techs leak detector would not have been able to reach the leak as the stalk on the probe was to short.Because the heat pump top was never opened for inspection, I thought that it was wise to get a second opinion.I called *** Cool. The ** tech cut the tape on the heat pump so the top could be fully opened allowing for access to the inside components.The *** Cool tech found the leak after about 10 minutes of probing the heat pump with a freon detector. The ** dye was found as well. The ******* had a much longer stalk on the probe which was essential to reach the leak.If the ** techs had proper leak detectors the freon leak could have been found on the first trip. Or the leak could have been found using soap and water. Due to the gross ineptitude, I think that a full refund from ** is in order.
