Subject: Complaint Against Crunch Fitness for Deceptive Cancellation Practices To Whom It May Concern,I am writing to file a formal complaint against Crunch Fitness for engaging in deceptive and unfair business practices related to membership cancellation. Despite multiple attempts to cancel my membership, Crunch Fitness has continued to charge me without my authorization.Nature of the Problem:1.Failure to Provide a Simple Cancellation Option:I initially contacted Crunch Fitness by phone to cancel my membership, but I was told that cancellations can only be processed in person. This requirement is unreasonable and may violate consumer protection laws that mandate businesses provide an easy and accessible method for cancellation.2.Continued Unauthorized Billing:Despite my verbal request to cancel and subsequently sending a cease and desist letter requesting the termination of my membership, Crunch Fitness has continued to charge my account. This ongoing billing is occurring without my consent and is causing financial harm.3.Potential Violation of Federal and State Laws:Requiring members to cancel in person, despite prior cancellation attempts, may violate federal consumer protection laws under the *** Act, which prohibits unfair or deceptive business practices. Additionally, New Jersey consumer protection laws require that gym memberships provide a clear and reasonable method of cancellation.Desired Outcome:I request that the *** investigate Crunch Fitness for engaging in deceptive practices by failing to provide an accessible cancellation process and continuing to charge customers after legitimate cancellation requests. I also request that Crunch Fitness be required to refund all unauthorized charges and modify their cancellation policies to comply with consumer protection

Dear Better Business Bureau,I am writing to file a complaint regarding the unfair and unreasonable practices at Crunch Fitness Channelside related to their membership cancellation process.Joining Crunch Fitness was easy, as I signed up online, but canceling my membership has been a prolonged, frustrating experience. I was recently forced to move due to Hurricane ******, which severely affected my home in *****************. When I informed Crunch Fitness of my situation and requested to cancel my membership, they informed me I needed to visit a Crunch facility in person to sign a form. I questioned why I couldnt cancel online, as I had initially joined online, but they insisted on an in-person visit. After spending two hours driving to the Crunch facility where I held my membership, I explained my circumstances to an employee named ****, who instructed me to email my situation, along with photos of the flooding as proof. Its baffling that they would require this level of evidence, given the widespread impact of the hurricane in our area. The insistence on sending further documentation, after already discussing my displacement, seems excessive and unaccommodating.Furthermore, their policies appear misleading and unreasonable. While they advertise a $9.99 monthly rate, I was charged $19 monthly and was also billed an initiation fee. I have not been able to use the gym due to overcrowding, and my experience with their policies has left me highly dissatisfied. This policy of requiring members to jump through hoops to cancel, while making joining easy, reflects poor business ethics.I am requesting a full refund of all fees paid, as I have been unable to use the membership and believe the cancellation policies are unreasonable and exploitative. I hope that Crunch Fitness is held accountable for their poor business practices and lack of transparency.Thank you for your attention to this matter.*** ***** ************

On June 10, 2024 I went to Crunch Fitness to physically terminate services with the organization. The manager onsite refused to cancel my policy. They informed me I have to notify them 30days which I provided that day. They refuse to cancel my policy and as of today continue to take monies out of my account. I emailed ********************** and have not received a response. There is no telephone number to contact corporate office to resolve my issue.

Crunch fitness failed to process my cancelation when I followed the process outlined in their policy. I cancelled in person, took it in writing to their location and sent an email when I initially cancelled my membership. They continued to charge to me when they weren't authorized to do so. After months of being charged by them, I finally put a stop payment on the charge then Crunch Fitness contacted me to update my charges. I provided them proof that I cancelled but they wouldn't respond back after that. Now I received an email that they've referred me over to collections.

On July 19th 2022 I opened an account at *********************************************, Tampa *******. I was 16 at the time and no minor consent form was filled out. I used the gym briefly and paid the fees necessary to keep an account. After I moved to a different gym I called and an employee had explained that the account was closed. I called them after they sent me a email saying my account is in collections, they say the amount I owe is $350. Now they have been threatening to send this to collections and thus appearing on my credit report. Ive requested validation of this debt, a contract with a minor consent form. Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act a minor cannot enter a legally binding agreement. *** explained this to them and they have stated it doesnt matter.

I went to Crunch Fitness at ************************************************************************** to cancel my membership on March 1, 2023 because all three nearest Crunch Fitness locations are 30 minutes drive from my house. She said that one extra month membership fee is required to close the account and I need to come back on April 1 to sign papers. I told her I cannot pay for the service I will not use and I cannot drive one hour round trip again to sign papers on April 1. She didn't close my account and continue to bill me March fees of $85.98. I paid the fee so I can close my credit card even though I didn't use Crunch Fitness in March. I went to this location 2 months later to ask to close the account. She gave me manager's email. This manager didn't reply my email for a month and asked me to pay for 4 months of membership fees $128.96 to close the account. I replied that I cannot pay for the service I didn't use. This manager never replied my email. I received email from the corporate office that they will put the accumulating balance to collection.

I have been trying to contact this location to cancel my membership. I am not currently in the area anymore and cannot go in physically. I have sent three letters only for them to say they haven't received any of them. I have also sent two emails that have gone unanswered. When I called they told me I needed to send a letter. Absolutely ridiculous that I can sign up in seconds online, but have to go through all this c*** to cancel.

I told the crunch to cancel my membership in December 2020 as i was leaving Tampa to go back to **. Crunch channelside told me my membership would be canceled. In January 2021, I visited Crunch fitness in ************, ** who emailed crunch fitness in Tampa, Channelside. Crunch in ************ received a return email stating my membership is deactivated. Since then, i have continually been charged by crunch fitness. I have called numerous times on my own and with family members. They keep telling me they won't cancel my membership until I pay my balance. The reason I have a balance is because they keep charging me for a membership I no longer have. I am a college student and I feel this is a terrible business practice for them to continue to get away with. I see other complaints for the same exact reason.

Emailed the Manager and called who said I would have to go inside the club to sign a cancellation form or I could mail a certified letter to the club address. I explained to the manager that I am no longer living in the area and could not come in. I am going overseas for so sending a certified letter is out of the questions as well. I also explained that I have revoke authorization to process my card as well. He stated I will be reported to the credit bureau if I don't complete one of the two process above or continue to pay. The process to cancel is this complicated but all you need to do is sign up online to get started.
