On October 19, I was charged ***** for services from information.com. It was my understanding when I gave them my credit card information that I was only going to be charged one dollar. I didnt see anything where I was going to keep being charged, but I might be mistaken. Anyway, I wondered if I could have my money refunded. I signed up for a single 0.99 report and was charged $35 less than a week later. I did not sign up for any type of recurring service. I did not approve of a subscription. Please note, this complaint is concerning Information.com and the new method implemented by this data broker to delete or opt-out of the sale of our personal data. As the information on record does not reflect the date of birth of the consumer. Leaving individuals vulnerable to exploitation and misuse of the data collected and sold due to the verification process. This company has a duty of care ensuring the information presented on the platform is truthful and complete, however the information acquired concerning my familys personal data had factual inaccuracies. At times, displaying more than one profile on the platform based on formal vs informal names, mismatched information and misstated age. Such errors can cause significant problems, preventing consumers the ability to search, opt-out of communications or data sharing due to the method implemented. As the mechanism used to delete or opt-out of the sale of information is flawed. Due to privacy and safety concerns, I have submitted a right to delete for my immediate family throughout the duration of the year. Despite concerted efforts to prevent the future sharing of information, the data was re-shared once more. From this point forward, how are the consumers able to identify and/or search for their personal data as the information aggregated from public records can contain errors, leading to inaccuracies in the data they provide to customers. Your explanation regarding the possibility of multiple individuals with similar personal details is not applicable to this case. The specific, incorrect information found on your website, including the age displayed and other details I have previously requested for removal, is a direct and unambiguous match to my family's personal information. The unique identifiers in the reports leave no room for ambiguity concerning the individuals involved.
I must also take exception to the characterization of this information as easily accessible to users. Access is contingent upon a financial transaction, which contradicts any claim of general availability. I can confirm this, as a search query on your homepage led to a prompt for a 99-cent purchase to access a report, rather than displaying the search results for the information I entered.
Furthermore, you have not furnished the necessary details regarding your official procedure for complete data erasure requests. This documentation is a critical requirement for a transparent and verifiable process, especially for individuals exercising their rights under the ***** The absence of this information, particularly in how to address record inconsistencies like unique names, variations in names or incorrect age entries. Without a clear and verifiable process, I have no assurance that our data, if re-aggregated from public or third-party sources with new discrepancies, could be effectively located and permanently removed in the future. From my understanding, clerks maintain public records, their authority does not extend to regulating the use of this data by third parties, including data brokers. The accuracy of the information cannot be guaranteed due to the potential for errors during data retrieval.
Data from various third-party brokers has consistently shown a number of inaccuracies. These ongoing issues include demographic errors, such as incorrect ages and the conflation of sibling records. Furthermore, data quality is compromised by inconsistent name formatting, which manifests as the use of informal versus formal names, variations in how middle and last names are recorded, and the incorrect parsing of two-word first names.
Following a prior successful removal request, the same information resurfaced on your platform. However, the name was formatted in an alternative manner. This content has since been taken down following a call to your customer service team. . 9/26/2025 . 3.99 cleared bank. I caught ***** pending and immediately called my credit union and cancelled card. I am a 90 year old retired female living in HUD subsidized aoartment. In no way did I sign up for any recurring service!Next day I went to ***, picked up new debit card and filed a Fraud report. Then today, 10/4/2025, I see that *** has PAID this amount out of my new account! It states "recurring"amount! I received no information from my dealings, originally a 99c thing. The additional charges went to my credit union that same day! I am worried that because the ** cleared the ***** charge on 10/3/2025, in my account ( under my new card #), this will continue. When I tapped "website", the following appeared..." 503 service temporarily unavailable". Do not know how to get out of this since my goggled instructions did not work.
